Osteoporosis is a common condition with serious consequences because of fractures. Despite availability of treatments to reduce fracture risk, there is a large osteoporosis treatment gap that has reached crisis proportions. There are too few specialists to provide services for patients who need them. Bone Health Extension for Community Health Care Outcomes (TeleECHO) is a strategy using real-time ongoing videoconferencing technology to mentor health care professionals in rural and underserved communities to achieve an advanced level of knowledge for the care of patients with skeletal diseases. Over the first 21 months of weekly Bone Health TeleECHO programs, there were 263 …

Towards Tightly Secure Deterministic Public Key Encryption, Daode Zhang, Bao Li, Yamin Liu, Haiyang Xue, Xianhui Lu, Dingding Jia
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
In this paper, we formally consider the construction of tightly secure deterministic public key encryption (D-PKE). Initially, we compare the security loss amongst the D-PKE schemes under the concrete assumptions and also analyze the tightness of generic D-PKE constructions. Furthermore, we prove that the CPA secure D-PKE scheme of Boldyreva et al. (Crypto’08) is tightly PRIV-IND-CPA secure for block-sources. Our security reduction improves the security loss of their scheme from O(nc∗) to O(1). Additionally, by upgrading the all-but-one trapdoor function (TDF) in the construction of Boldyreva et al. to all-but-n TDF defined by Hemenway et al. (Asiacrypt’11), we give general …

Higher Order Mesh Curving Using Geometry Curvature Extrapolation, Kristen Karman
Higher Order Mesh Curving Using Geometry Curvature Extrapolation, Kristen Karman
Masters Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
A higher order mesh curving method is developed which uses information from the geometry to determine the appropriate curvature of edges in the interior of the mesh. Edges are represented using four point Bézier curves to determine the positions of higher order edge points. Higher order face and volume points are positioned using the basis functions for serendipity face and volume elements. Parameters are defined which allow user specified control over element quality and the propagation of curvature in the mesh. Curved higher order meshes are shown for test cases in both two and three dimensions.
Comparative Analysis Between Merra And Updated Mepdg Climate Database In The State Of Tennessee, Abubakr Ziedan
Comparative Analysis Between Merra And Updated Mepdg Climate Database In The State Of Tennessee, Abubakr Ziedan
Masters Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
The Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG) addresses climate effects on pavement design in a comprehensive way, which allows for investigating the effect of climate inputs on pavement performance. However, it requires detailed climate inputs, which might not be available for most of the state DOT. The Updated AASHTOWare climate database encompasses twelve stations in the state of Tennessee, which might not well represent all climatic regions in the state of Tennessee. This study compares and evaluates the performance of pavements in Tennessee using Modern-Era Retrospective Analysis for Research and Applications (MERRA) and the updated AASHTOWare databases as a source of …
Virtual Reality Based Simulation Testbed For Evaluation Of Autonomous Vehicle Behavior Algorithms, Vibhor Rastogi
Virtual Reality Based Simulation Testbed For Evaluation Of Autonomous Vehicle Behavior Algorithms, Vibhor Rastogi
All Theses
Validation of Autonomous Vehicle behavior algorithms requires thorough testing against a wide range of test scenarios. It is not financially and practically feasible to conduct these tests entirely in a real world setting. We discuss the design and implementation of a VR based simulation testbed that allows such testing to be conducted virtually, linking a computer-generated environment to the system running the autonomous vehicle's decision making algorithms and operating in real-time. We illustrate the system by further discussing the design and implementation of an application that builds upon the VR simulation testbed to visually evaluate the performance of an Advance …

Training Personal Information To Children Diagnosed With Autism Spectrum Disorder, Diana C. Carlos
Theses and Dissertations
For many children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, learning emergency information such as their parents’ names, contact information, or important health information may be useful in case of elopement, getting lost, or abduction. In the present study, I evaluated the use of video self-modeling (VSM) to facilitate acquisition of personal information in comparison to echoic prompts using a parallel treatments design with children with ASD. Components of the intervention included: a test, followed by the prompt (e.g., echoic or VSM) for no response given or for an incorrect response. The use of VSM involves the learner viewing a video of …
Evaluation Of A Tool To Identify The Variables Responsible For Poor Parent Treatment Implementation: The Performance Diagnostic Checklist-Parent, Jamie Villacorta
Evaluation Of A Tool To Identify The Variables Responsible For Poor Parent Treatment Implementation: The Performance Diagnostic Checklist-Parent, Jamie Villacorta
Theses and Dissertations
In applied behavior analysis, parents are often taught to implement treatment programs in order to decrease their child’s problem behaviors and increase appropriate behaviors. Unfortunately, many parents have trouble implementing these programs correctly. It has been suggested that higher treatment integrity for a specified treatment program may be associated with higher levels of its success. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the use of an assessment tool (i.e., the Performance Diagnostic Checklist-Parent, or PDC-P) to develop a treatment specifically targeted to address the variables responsible for poor program implementation by parents. First, the PDC-P was administered to …

Objectives: To determine whether the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) was a sensitive indicator of cognitive improvement following introduction of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) in community memory clinic (CMC) patients who had been diagnosed with sleep apnea (SA). Method: Twenty-six CPAP compliant CMC patients (61.5% male; 96.2% Caucasian/Non-Hispanic) with a diagnosis of SA (66-87 years (M=76.27(4.90)) completed a MoCA before initiation of treatment and again 4-9 months later. CPAP compliance was documented through CPAP machine compliance reports and/or clinical interview with patient and family member during subsequent medical visits. Twenty CPAP non-compliant CMC patients (85% male, 100% Caucasian/Non-Hispanic; 66-90 years …
Development Of Large-Area Gem Detectors For The Forward Muon Endcap Upgrade Of The Cms Experiment And Search For Sm Higgs Boson Decay In The H → Τ+Τ− → Μ+Μ−¯Νμνμ¯Ντντ Channel At √ S = 13 Tev, Vallary Shashikant Bhopatkar
Theses and Dissertations
Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) technology is being considered for the forward muon upgrade of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment in Phase II of the CERN LHC. The first GEM Endcap (GE1/1) is going to be installed in the 1.5 <| η |< 2.2 region of the muon endcap mainly to control muon level-1 trigger rates after the second long LHC shutdown. A GE1/1 triple-GEM detector is read out by 3,072 radial strips with 453 µrad pitch arranged in eight η-sectors. A meter-long GE1/1 prototype-III was assembled at Florida Tech and tested in 20-120 GeV hadron beams at Fermilab using Ar/CO2 70:30 and the RD51 Scalable Readout System (SRS). Four GEM detectors with 2-D readout and an average measured azimuthal resolution of 36µrad provided precise reference tracks. Construction of this GE1/1 prototype-III detector and its performance in the test beam are described. Strip cluster parameters, detection efficiency, and spatial resolution are studied with position and high voltage scans. The plateau detection efficiency is [97.80 ± 0.2 (stat)]%. The azimuthal resolution is found to be [123.5 ± 1.6 (stat)] µrad when operating in the center of the efficiency plateau and using full pulse height information. The CMS upgrade design calls for readout electronics with binary hit output. When strip clusters are formed correspondingly without charge-weighting and with fixed hit thresholds, a position resolution of [136.8 ± 2.5 stat] µrad is measured, consistent with the expected resolution from strip-pitch/√ 12 = 131.3 µrad. The eight η-sectors of the detector show a similar response and performance. VFAT3 electronics are being considered for the readout system of GE1/1 detectors. The charge that is induced on the GE1/1 readout strips by minimum-ionizing particles is an important parameter that informs the design of the amplifier-shaper input stage of the VFAT3 chip. To estimate the input charge range for these electronics, the most probable value, mean value, and 99th percentile value of the Landau distribution of the charge induced on a single strip are measured and found to be 4 fC, 11 fC, and 115 fC, respectively. The Z/γ∗ → τ τ cross section in proton-proton collisions at √ s = 13 TeV is measured, using data recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC during 2015 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.3 fb−1 . The product of the cross section and branching fraction is measured in the dimuon final state to be 1967 ± 121 (stat.) ± 92 (syst.) ± 37 (lumi.) pb, in agreement with the standard model expectation, computed at next-to-next-to-leading order accuracy in perturbative quantum chromodynamics. A search for Standard Model (SM) Higgs bosons decaying into pairs of tau leptons and then to two muons plus (anti)-neutrinos is performed using the data collected by the CMS detector in 2016 with 35.9 fb−1 of integrated luminosity. The upper limits on the cross section relative to SM prediction are calculated in three event categories with different jet multiplicities focusing on Higgs boson signal events produced via gluon-gluon fusion and vector boson fusion. A multivariate analysis with Boosted Decision Trees (BDT) is used to suppress the large Drell-Yan background. The di-tau mass is reconstructed using a Secondary-Vertex fit (SVFit) algorithm using a maximum likelihood approach. Experimental limits are presented in all three categories extracted from the maximum likelihood fit of reconstructed di-tau mass and the visible mass of the dimuon system. The signal strength for the combination of all three categories is estimated as -1.0 ± 1.7. The expected and observed upper limits with 95% CL is at 3.2 and 2.7, respectively, with respect to the SM cross section times branching fraction.
Flight Testing Angle-Of-Attack Warning Combinations On Part 23 Aircraft, Jennifer Grey Geehan
Flight Testing Angle-Of-Attack Warning Combinations On Part 23 Aircraft, Jennifer Grey Geehan
Theses and Dissertations
The high number of accidents involving General Aviation (GA) aircraft leads to a need for improved methods to warn pilots of high angles of attack (AOA) and impending stall. Such methods must be certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) under Federal Aviation Regulations Part 23 regarding their effectiveness in preventing departures from controlled flight. Therefore, methods of compliance must be developed to certify Part 23 aircraft equipped with AOA warning or limiting systems. The research objectives were to (a) determine methods for the evaluation of AOA warning and limiting systems and to (b) evaluate the effectiveness of baseline combinations …
Testing The Wind-Shock Paradigm For B-Type Star X-Ray Production With Θ Carinae, Trisha F. Doyle
Testing The Wind-Shock Paradigm For B-Type Star X-Ray Production With Θ Carinae, Trisha F. Doyle
Theses and Dissertations
We present Chandra X-ray grating spectroscopy of the B0.2V star, θ Carinae. θ Car is in a critical transition region between the latest O-type and earliest B-type stars, where some of these stars are observed to have UV-determined mass-loss rates much lower than theoretically expected. In general, X-ray emission in this low-luminosity regime should be less prominent than in O-star winds, but observations have shown a higher than expected production of X-ray emission from the winds of these stars (e.g., Cohen et al. 2008; Huenemoerder et al. 2012). A hot wind could explain weak UV wind signatures, but this severely …
The Contribution Of Urban 4-H To Social Capital And The Implications For Social Justice, Nia Imani Fields
The Contribution Of Urban 4-H To Social Capital And The Implications For Social Justice, Nia Imani Fields
Journal of Extension
The idea that equal education exists in the United States is a misconception, and positive youth development programs are a proposed response to inequitable education. Youth development programs have the potential to increase one's social capital, particularly for youths who are marginalized by inequitable access to quality education. The study described here focused on the contribution of urban positive youth development to social capital and social justice. Findings indicate that 4-H initiatives related to social capital are reaching marginalized youths. However, barriers are preventing 4-H from reaching these youths adequately and/or consistently.
Ecology Of Hatchling Alligator Snapping Turtles (Macrochelys Temminckii), Sarah J. Spangler
Ecology Of Hatchling Alligator Snapping Turtles (Macrochelys Temminckii), Sarah J. Spangler
Graduate Theses/Dissertations
Little is known about the first year of life for many of the world’s freshwater turtles. This is due in part to their cryptic nature and the difficulty of locating hatchlings in the wild. The lack of information about this demographically important age group has led researchers to draw conclusions from indirect inferences about survival rates and ecological roles of hatchlings that may or may not be accurate. To begin filling in some of these gaps, I focused on the first year in an alligator snapping turtle’s life. I studied: (1) circadian and circannual patterns of activity, (2) growth rates …
A Comparison Of Traditional, Trial-Based, And Synthesized Contingency Trial-Based Functional Analyses, Kaitlin S. Curtis
A Comparison Of Traditional, Trial-Based, And Synthesized Contingency Trial-Based Functional Analyses, Kaitlin S. Curtis
Graduate Theses/Dissertations
Researchers have developed functional analyses (FAs) to improve efficiency and correspondence that still use core components of the traditional format. The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the correspondence between the trial-based FA and the traditional FA. I also evaluated the correspondence between the synthesized-contingency trial-based FA and the traditional FA. Within this study, I determined that by combining methods, I was able to reduce false negatives for escape found within the trial-based FAs and false-positives found within the synthesized contingency FAs.

Household Chipped Stone Technology At South Cape (23cg8): A Mississippian Hinterland Site In Southeast Missouri, Deseray L. Helton
Graduate Theses/Dissertations
Mississippian archaeology is characterized by a longstanding bias towards studying large, mound-bearing sites as opposed to small hinterland sites. Although this bias has diminished in recent decades, research on hinterland sites is still relatively uncommon. This study helps correct that bias through an analysis of flaked stone technological organization at South-Cape (23CG8), a Mississippian hinterland site in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. A sample of flaked stone artifacts from two house features at the site was analyzed. The results indicate that residents at South Cape generally acquired and consumed higher quantities of local lithic raw material than of supra-local lithic raw material. …

A Mixed-Reality Approach For Cyber-Situation Awareness, Tapas Dipakkumar Joshi
Theses and Dissertations
As the proliferation and adoption of smart devices increase, there is an unprecedented amount of data being released into the network every second. Computer networks are the carriers for the movement of this ever generating amounts of data, but are dumb in a way that they do not distinguish between suspicious data traffic and valid data traffic. Also, for however secure a computer network be, suspicious network traffic activities are bound to happen. These suspicious traffic activities have to be detected, analyzed and stopped before it compromises the entire network and leaves the information and data security of an organization …

Investigating The Influence Of Functional And Nonfunctional Requirements On Change And Change Propagation, Nathaniel Conde Voris
Theses and Dissertations
The research presented in this thesis investigates the nature of change and change propagation in requirement documents as they are influenced by requirement type, that is, “Functional” or “NonFunctional,” and how an understanding of these types may refine utilization of the Automated Requirement Change Propagation Prediction (ARCPP) tool when used by design teams. Functionality is determined by asking the question “Does the requirement prescribe something for the project to accomplish?” This question separates the requirements into their requisite types. Using the ARCPP, the relationship and propagation scores were determined for each requirement. Furthermore, the number of relationships were determined for …
Predatory Capacity Of King Crabs In Antarctica, Brittan V. Steffel
Predatory Capacity Of King Crabs In Antarctica, Brittan V. Steffel
Theses and Dissertations
For millions of years, cold water temperatures have excluded shell-crushing (durophagous) predators from continental-shelf environments off the western Antarctic Peninsula. Recently, however, king crabs, Paralomis birsteini, have been found in dense, reproductively viable populations on the upper continental slope, and rapid warming might enable them to expand to the shelf. King crabs are crushing shelled invertebrates on the slope, but calcification of sturdy, shell-crushing chelae is likely inhibited by the low saturation state of high-Mg calcite in the deep Southern Ocean. The objectives of this study were to better understand the predatory capacity of P. birsteini by estimating the potential …
Two-Photon Excitation, Fluorescence Microscopy, And Quantitative Measurement Of Two-Photon Absorption Cross Sections, Fredrick Michael Dearmond
Two-Photon Excitation, Fluorescence Microscopy, And Quantitative Measurement Of Two-Photon Absorption Cross Sections, Fredrick Michael Dearmond
Dissertations and Theses
As optical microscopy techniques continue to improve, most notably the development of super-resolution optical microscopy which garnered the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2014, renewed emphasis has been placed on the development and use of fluorescence microscopy techniques. Of particular note is a renewed interest in multiphoton excitation due to a number of inherent properties of the technique including simplified optical filtering, increased sample penetration, and inherently confocal operation. With this renewed interest in multiphoton fluorescence microscopy, comes an increased demand for robust non-linear fluorescent markers, and characterization of the associated tool set.
These factors have led to an experimental …
Physical Properties Of Topological Insulator: Bismuth Selenide Thin Films, Yub Raj Sapkota
Physical Properties Of Topological Insulator: Bismuth Selenide Thin Films, Yub Raj Sapkota
Theses
Topological Insulator (TI) is new classes of materials with gapless surface states and insulating bulk. The topological connection can be traced back to the discovery of Integer Quantum Hall Effect in 1980. In the last decade, new categories of topological insulators were predicted and later discovered, that have gained a lot of attraction for room-temperature applications. Since the experimental observation of single Dirac cone on the surface states of Bismuth selenide (Bi2Se3) in 2009, it has emerged as the prototype. Bismuth Selenide has one of the highest bulk band gaps of 0.3 eV among all TI materials. While its single …
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy For Children With Autism, Tiffany Thomas
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy For Children With Autism, Tiffany Thomas
Theses
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a pervasive lifelong developmental delay with a prevalence of 1 in 68 children. This growing epidemic occurs for unspecified causes and researchers continue to explore evidence-based treatments available. Parent–child interaction therapy (PCIT) is a parent training program, initially developed for implementation with typically-developing children. PCIT has shown effectiveness in increasing child compliance, minimizing disruptive problem, improving parent-child relationship satisfaction, and communication. The present study investigated the efficacy of PCIT as an evidence-based practice (EBP) for children with ASD by implementing a non-concurrent multiple baseline design across three participants. Results indicated socially significant increases in child …
Evaluation Of A New Surgical Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Core Team In The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Megan Rose Stephany
Evaluation Of A New Surgical Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Core Team In The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Megan Rose Stephany
Doctoral Scholarly Projects & Capstones
The healthcare workforce is moving from a traditional physician-only model to a multi-level medical provider model. Neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) have come to rely on neonatal nurse practitioners due to the decrease in resident physician hours and the lower cost of hiring a neonatal nurse practitioner. Studies have found advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) can provide benefits in the areas of communication, patient outcomes, patient satisfaction, and cost. An increasing number of critically ill infants are requiring specialized pre- and postoperative care in one Level IV NICU, which has led to continuous quality improvement in communication and continuity of …

Stroke Reduction In Elderly Patients With Atrial Fibrillation Through Utilization Of An Anticoagulation Toolkit In The Primary Care Setting, Rachel J. Mommer
Doctoral Scholarly Projects & Capstones
Patients, especially those older than 65-years-old, do not receive adequate assessment or management of atrial fibrillation, resulting in higher ischemic stroke rates and worse outcomes related to strokes. Oral anticoagulation is recommended indefinitely for patients with atrial fibrillation and a moderate to high risk of stroke; yet this population is not receiving oral anticoagulation consistently. Factors such as overexaggerated bleeding risk in the elderly, the lack of head-to-head studies comparing anticoagulants, cost, patient compliance, safety, lab monitoring, and reversal agents convolute the process of prescribing anticoagulation for atrial fibrillation. Variations exist with assessing bleeding risk and stroke risk for every …

Barriers To Managing Childhood Overweight/ Obesity In American Indian Children, Amanda Gerise Vignaroli
Doctoral Scholarly Projects & Capstones
The number of overweight and obese children continues to rise in the United States and across the world, creating a growing need for providers to practice evidence- based interventions for this population of children and adolescents. An estimated 17% of children and adolescents in the United States are affected by being overweight or obese (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2016a). Obesity puts these children and adolescents at risk for physical complications such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, Type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, asthma, joint pain, gastroesophageal disease, and fatty liver disease (CDC, 2016b). Obesity is even higher among ethnic groups …
