Purpose: Chronic low back pain is highly prevalent and often treatment recalcitrant condition, particularly among workers’ compensation patients. There is a need to identify psychological factors that may predispose such patients to pain chronicity. The primary aim of this study was to examine whether pain acceptance potentially mediated the relationship between pain catastrophizing and post-surgical outcomes in a sample of compensated lumbar fusion patients.

Parent training is an effective intervention for parents of children with a variety of childhood disorders, including conduct problems, and parents often view behavioral parent training as acceptable. Explanations and rationales for parent training are commonly provided at the beginning of treatment. The purpose of this study was to determine whether changing the description of a behavioral parenting intervention influenced parents’ acceptability ratings and whether mothers and fathers differed in their ratings. Scholars and educational leaders have expressed concern that higher education is not adequately meeting students’ desire for spiritual growth within an academic context. Prior studies have demonstrated a relationship between the pedagogical method of service-learning and spiritual development. This study analyzed the relationship between specific service-learning components and the occurrence of spiritual growth in an effort to better understand how such growth can be fostered within the curriculum. Findings indicated that spiritual growth occurred when students experienced significant challenge balanced with support. To determine whether patients who were newly prescribed antihypertensive therapy after the Eighth Joint National Committee (JNC 8) update were treated to a relaxed systolic blood pressure (SBP) goal compared with patients treated before the update.

This brief uses administrative income tax data coupled with survey responses from roughly 5,000 households living near the poverty line to estimate how access to the Affordable Care Act’s health insurance Marketplaces have affected households’ experiences of extreme illiquidity, which is measured by delinquencies on home payments. To estimate this relationship, we exploit a natural experiment underway in states that did not expand Medicaid and created by the eligibility rules for Marketplace subsidies. Results suggest that insured households living near the poverty line are better able to make timely rent and mortgage payments compared with similar, uninsured households. Given housing …

The purpose of this study is to examine ideological, psychological, and demographic predictors of motivated reasoning. Three-hundred and seventy-seven participants from Amazon’s Mechanical Turk system completed written responses critically evaluating strengths and weaknesses in a vignette on the topic of anthropogenic climate change. The vignette has two fictional scientists present prototypical arguments for and against anthropogenic climate change that are constructed with equally flawed and conflicting reasoning from both view points. Written responses were coded by a team of trained and reliability assessed qualitative raters. Career decision-making abilities are an important part of a student's career development continuum. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of the GURU (Ground, Understand, Revise, Use) process as a group guidance technique to improve vocational school students' career decision-making abilities. The Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design experimental method was used in this research and the subjects were 12 students of SMKN 1 Trenggalek. Data analysis using the Two Independent Sample Test Mann Whitney U, obtained the Asymp value. Sig. (2-tailed) of 0.03 < real level ( /2 = 0.05) and it was concluded that the "GURU Process" as a group guidance technique was effective in improving the career decision making abilities of vocational school students. From these results, the researcher suggests that Counselors/BK Teachers can collaborate the TEACHER process with various other approaches, using it to develop various student potentials by paying attention to their development stages, psychological aspects and intervention content. Future researchers are advised to examine the GURU process with other research designs such as Single-Subject Designs or action research and pay attention to the use and feasibility of the instrument and its validity, as well as applying it to develop various other psychological aspects such as motivation, self-esteem, self-efficacy, critical thinking skills, the ability to think respectfully and so on.
