Chemistry Faculty Publications and Presentations

The very close structural similarities between cysteine and homocysteine present a great challenge to achieve their selective detection using regular fluorescent probes, limiting the biological and pathological studies of these two amino thiols. A coumarin-based fluorescent probe was designed featuring pH-promoted distinct turn-on followed by ratiometric fluorescence responses for Cys and turn-on fluorescence response for Hcy through two different reaction paths. These specific responses demonstrate the activity differences between Cys and Hcy qualitatively for the first time. The probe could also be used for Cys and Hcy imaging in living cells.

Recent heritability analyses have indicated that genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have the potential to improve genetic risk prediction for complex diseases based on polygenic risk score (PRS), a simple modelling technique that can be implemented using summary-level data from the discovery samples. We herein propose modifications to improve the performance of PRS. We introduce threshold-dependent winner’s-curse adjustments for marginal association coefficients that are used to weight the single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in PRS. Further, as a way to incorporate external functional/annotation knowledge that could identify subsets of SNPs highly enriched for associations, we propose variable thresholds for SNPs selection. The key to understanding any social phenomenon is to follow how actors tread the social landscape and describe how they form groups, fuse meanings, and create associations with different frames. In this paper, I employ Bruno Latour’s reconceptualization of assemblage to trace how NGOs and other actors create assemblages by fusing or defusing dog-eating with discourses on dirt, epidemic, and human rights. More specifically, NGOs such as LinisGobyerno and Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF) produce assemblages that align dog-eating with sanitation, violence, and epidemic. Buffer solution is one high school chemistry material found misconceptions on student understanding. Misconceptions identification method by giving some quetion with same type. Misconceptions identified from recurring student answers incorrectly. The study population was the students of class XI IPA at SMAN 1 Malang academic year 2015/2016 with a research subject in class XI MIA 7 number of 32 students. The results obtained by analysis of four kinds of misconceptions. The cause of the misconception is (1) a weak prior knowledge; (2) problems of symbols and mathematical formulas; (3) difficulty understanding the context of the material; (4) problems in generalize.

This paper aims at illustrating clinical supervision within learning process in elementary school. this study employed descriptive qualitative design. The instrument of this study is interview guide and direct practice of the reseracher. The data was obtained through interview, observation, and documentation. The data obtained, then, were analyzed descriptively using interactive analysis model with the steps of collecting data, reducing data, exposing data, and drawing conclusion. The result of this study showed that clinical supervision could improve teacher’s performance in elementary school.

Kentang merupakan komoditas pertanian yang mempunyai arti penting di dunia. Kentang mempunyai berbagai macam keunggulan seperti sumber protein yang tinggi, tidak mudah rusak seperti sayuran lain, dan berpotensi dalam program diversivikasi pangan. Salah satu kendala dalam produksi kentang adalah adanya fase dormansi pada masa pertumbuhan kentang. Upaya mempercepat masa dormansi tanaman adalah dengan penambahan hormon pemacu pertumbuhan. Sitokinin merupakan salah satu hormon pemacu pertumbuhan yang berperan dalam pembelahan sel. Tujuan dilakukannya penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh konsentrasi sitokinin terhadap dormansi benih kentang.
