Effect Of Manufacturing-Induced Defects And Orientation On The Failure And Fracture Mechanism Of 3d Printed Structures, Amit Khatri
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Theses - Archive
Additive manufacturing is a rapidly growing cutting edge technology. Number of experimental studies have shown that strength of product manufactured by additive Fused Deposition Method (FDM) is influenced by different processing parameters involved during manufacturing. This thesis work presents experimental and theoretical investigation of mechanical behavior of ABS material fabricated with variation in some of process parameters such as Axis Orientations, Raster Orientation, Infill Percentage, Layer Height and Number of Shells. Different experiments were designed to understand the basics of 3D printing manufacturing and to characterize the mechanical behavior of 3D printed structures. This study helps to understand, how different …
Electromigration Induced Interface Reaction In Cu-Wire / Al-Pad Diffusion Couple, Patricia Aracelly Rodriguez-Salazar
Electromigration Induced Interface Reaction In Cu-Wire / Al-Pad Diffusion Couple, Patricia Aracelly Rodriguez-Salazar
Material Science and Engineering Dissertations - Archive
This dissertation presents experimental observations that may assist the understanding of electromigration (EM) failure mechanism active in Cu wire and Al thin film pad (wire bond). This study is motivated by an ongoing industrial effort to adapt Cu as wire bonding material for interconnection. Traditional material used for the wire bond has been Au; however, its high cost combined with its susceptibility to reliability failure caused by excessive growth of IMCs (IMC) makes Cu to be an attractive replacement. Though, since an application of Cu to wire bond technology is relatively new, many of reliability failure mechanisms are unknown especially …

Neuronal activities generate the electrical current in the brain, and further result in the potential changes over the scalp. Electroencephalography (EEG) is a technique used to record the potential changes on the scalp. Even though fMRI, PET, MEG and other brain-imaging tools are widely used in brain research, they are limited by low spatial/temporal resolution, cost, mobility and suitability for long-term monitoring. In contrast, EEG signals have been successfully used to obtain useful diagnostic information (neural oscillations and response times) in clinical contexts. Further, they present the advantage to be highly portable, inexpensive, and can be acquired at the bedside …

Educational Leadership & Policy Studies Dissertations - Archive
Since first conceptualized in the 1970s, employee burnout has received much scholarly attention in various service-oriented fields. While some disciplines have benefited from an abundance of burnout research (e.g., nursing, education), other specific jobs have received limited attention. One such position is the Resident Assistant (RA) job on college campuses. RAs serve a critical, service-oriented role in higher education and have a wide range of difficult job responsibilities. As such, RAs are not immune to burnout. The limited existing research on RA burnout has failed to address the foundational cause of burnout; that is, the relationships between RAs who provide …

The coming shortage of energy sources and critical environmental impacts are two major factors that have forced a change in product design processes. The shortage of energy sources is related to the limitation on non-renewable energy sources on earth and requires the development of new concepts with lower energy consumptions. Environmental impact, on the other hand, is concerned about the negative effects of products on the natural environment. In recent years, research on designing more environmentally-friendly products that consume lower of energy with lower environmental impact has been initiated to address these issues [1-3]. Designing new powertrains for vehicles [4] …

In land use, there are two things that Americans dislike: one is sprawl, the other is density. This catch-22 can be resolved by mitigating those aspects of urban living associated with density: congestion, bulky buildings, sameness, design incongruities, unsafe streets, inefficiency, and the sense that neighborhoods are not livable and pleasant. These characteristics of density cut against sustainability. They define places that people want to leave as soon as they can. To reduce vehicle miles travelled and carbon emissions, as well as to prevent sprawl, we must create places of enduring value, located next to transit in walkable and sustainable …

Tax Benefits Of Government-Owned Marijuana Stores, Benjamin Leff
Scholarly Articles in Law Reviews & Journals
This Article is the first to address whether independent governmental affiliates that sell marijuana are exempt from federal income tax under section 115 of the Internal Revenue Code. It argues that such entities should easily pass the IRS's current interpretation of the three requirements for tax-exemption under section 115: (i) that exempt income be derived from "the exercise of any essential governmental function"; (ii) that such income "accru[e] to a State or any political subdivision thereof"; and (iii) that the income "not serve private interests[.]" In addition, this Article argues that though selling marijuana is illegal under federal law, that …

The Impact Of Paroxysmal Sympathetic Hyperactivity Following Traumatic Brain Injury On Intensive Care Unit Length Of Stay And Discharge Disposition., Kimberly S. Meyer
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Paroxysmal Sympathetic Hyperactivity (PSH) is a complication affecting a subset of patients with severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). It is associated with increased morbidity, longer lengths of stay, and delayed recovery (Perkes, Baguley, Nott, & Menon, 2010). The most prevalent signs and symptoms of PSH include unprovoked tachycardia, tachypnea, hypertension, dystonia, and diaphoresis (Lemke, 2007). If untreated, PSH can lead to impaired cerebral blood flow, sub-endocardial damage, dehydration, malnourishment, and contractures (Lemke, 2007). Results from this retrospective study indicate that there is no difference in intensive unit (ICU) length of stay in TBI patients with PSH compared to those without …
