The Special Collections Research Center's Education Program: A Reflection On Success, Natalie Bishop
The Special Collections Research Center's Education Program: A Reflection On Success, Natalie Bishop
LIS Student Conference
The Special Collections Research Center's education program offers students across all departments and disciplines the opportunity to learn from primary sources. By demystifying the research process, students are provided with powerful learning opportunities. As the Education Archivist Graduate Assistant, I plan and create activities for students visiting the SCRC to facilitate student learning and improve information literacy. This fast-growing, innovative program reached 2,038 students during the 2015-2016 academic year, and this is only one of many pieces of evidence pointing to the program's success.

Testing The Assumptions Of The Provocation Doctrine, Carlton J. Patrick
Testing The Assumptions Of The Provocation Doctrine, Carlton J. Patrick
Open Access Theses
The provocation doctrine, which mitigates the punishment for killings made “in the heat of passion,” is a longstanding and often criticized area of United States law. At the crux of these criticisms is the doctrine’s imprecision: courts and lawmakers continue to struggle to both delineate specific standards for its application and to offer a satisfying rationale for its continued existence. Here, we use an evolutionary-computational model of anger and intimate partner violence to inform these problems. Using the archetypal case of provocation—a male discovering his partner’s infidelity—we surveyed 1,939 males to address and test two of the doctrine’s core assumptions: …

Community To Clinic Navigation To Improve Diabetes Outcomes, Gabriele Circiurkaite, Nancy E. Schoenberg, Mary Kate Greenwood
Community To Clinic Navigation To Improve Diabetes Outcomes, Gabriele Circiurkaite, Nancy E. Schoenberg, Mary Kate Greenwood
Sociology, Social Work and Anthropology Faculty Publications
Rural residents experience rates of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) that are considerably higher than their urban or suburban counterparts. Two primary modifiable factors, self-management and formal clinical management, have potential to greatly improve diabetes outcomes. “Community to Clinic Navigation to Improve Diabetes Outcomes,” is the first known randomized clinical trial pilot study to test a hybrid model of diabetes self-management education plus clinical navigation among rural residents with T2DM. Forty-one adults with T2DM were recruited from two federally qualified health centers in rural Appalachia from November 2014–January 2015. Community health workers provided navigation, including helping participants understand and implement …

I Spy A Brighter Future, University Of Dayton
Blog Archive: River Reflections at the University of Dayton
I spy something with my little eye, and it looks a lot like kids learning their multiplication tables. I spy boys and girls eagerly raising their hands to be picked to clean the dinner tables. I spy them helping each other stack chairs at the end of the night. And most of all, I spy an infinite amount of laughter. I spy Adventure Central. This after school program is unlike anything I’ve known before. Kids come here to not only learn about rivers, creeks, plants, and the environment, but are also aided with their homework. Adventure Central allows them to …

Metabolic Alteration Induced By Time Restricted Feeding At Different Points In The Circadian Cycle, Laura Brooks Crone
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
The goal was to determine if a high fat diet given in a time restricted fashion can protect against obesity and inflammatory mediators. 12 week old C57BL/6 male mice were assigned to either a standard chow diet or a diet containing 45% fat. The high fat diet was provided ad libitum or in a time restricted fashion, either during the first of the second half of the active phase for 8 weeks. Time restricted meal intake reduced body mass gain, adiposity, glucose intolerance and cholesterol levels in mice fed a high fat diet. Mice fed a high fat diet, even …
A Comprehensive Discrete Choice Analysis Of Injury Severity In Roadway Work Zone Crashes, Mohamed Osman
A Comprehensive Discrete Choice Analysis Of Injury Severity In Roadway Work Zone Crashes, Mohamed Osman
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
Work zones are critical parts of the transportation infrastructure renewal process consisting of rehabilitation of roadways, maintenance, and utility work. Given the specific nature of a work zone (complex arrangements of traffic control devices and signs, narrow lanes, duration) a number of crashes occur with varying severities involving different vehicle sizes. This dissertation proposes a comprehensive discrete choice analysis of injury severity of crashes in work zones on both the crash and occupant levels, in roadway work zones through a comprehensive set of discrete choice econometric frameworks. Robust discrete choice modeling structures are introduced and applied in the field of work …
