Debriefing In The Emergency Department, Alyssa Johnson Dec 2016

Debriefing In The Emergency Department, Alyssa Johnson

Master's Projects and Capstones

Emergency Department (ED) staff are repeatedly exposed to high stress situations and as a result suffer from compassion fatigue, secondary traumatic stress, symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, burnout and high turnover rates. Staff turnover is costly to the health system in the form of training new staff and potential poor patient outcomes due to under staffing or inexperience of staff. Based on a survey about debriefing, Level 1 Adult and Pediatric Emergency Department staff reported 81% felt there was inadequate support for critically stressful events that occur. Debriefing was identified by 75% of the staff as an option for support. …

Bacterial Colonization And Antibiotic Resistance In A Prospective Cohort Of Newborn Infants During The First Year Of Life, Sharon B. Meropol, Kurt C. Stange, Michael R. Jacobs, Judith K. Weiss, Saralee Bajaksouzian, Robert A. Bonomo

Faculty Scholarship

Background. Infants are virtually sterile at birth and frequently use antibiotics; our objective was to (1) characterize the longitudinal colonization with bacterial pathogens and associated antibiotic resistance in a cohort of community-dwelling infants in Northeast Ohio and (2) describe longitudinal concurrent antibiotic and daycare exposures. Methods. For 35 newborns, nasopharyngeal swabs were cultured for Streptococcus pneumoniae, anterior nasal for Staphylococcus aureus, and perirectal for extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Gram-negative enteric bacteria, at 3-month intervals for 12 months. Infant and household antibiotics and daycare exposure were assessed longitudinally. Results. Thirteen infants received perinatal or nursery antibiotics. By 3 months, at least 22 …

From Part 1: “North Omaha voted at a poor rate. We did not vote large enough to make our collective voices heard in this election. Thus our preferences were defeated. For good or bad, our non-voting contributed to the victory of Trump and the defeats of Ashford and restoration of the Nebraska death penalty…. Beginning immediately there needs to be, A New Attitude; Demands for accountability from our leadership and outside forces to develop with the community new avenues for inclusion of wealth into north Omaha. Physical Therapy Management Of A Patient With Chronic Brainstem Stroke Syndrome To Improve Functional Mobility: A Case Report, Kelley Flahaven Dec 2016

Physical Therapy Management Of A Patient With Chronic Brainstem Stroke Syndrome To Improve Functional Mobility: A Case Report, Kelley Flahaven

Case Report Posters

Strokes are a leading cause of disability, and the fifth leading cause of death in the U.S. Brainstem strokes are much less common and have a higher mortality rate than cortical strokes. Brainstem strokes can lead to physical impairments including gaze palsies, quadriplegia, ataxia, or cranial nerve deficits, which affect balance and safety, decreasing independence. Repetitive task gait training has been shown to create improvements in patients with stroke. Non-specific gait training can have a transfer effect on gait for patients with stroke. There are fewer accounts of brainstem stroke rehabilitation than cortical stroke rehabilitation due to poor prognosis and …

Functional Training In A Patient With Middle Cerebral Artery Stroke With Multiple Comorbidities: A Case Report, Darien Lewis

Case Report Posters

795,000 people experience a stroke yearly, making it the leading cause of long-term disability, costing $34 billion. Strokes affecting the middle cerebral artery (MCA) cause impairments of strength, sensation, coordination, and balance of the contralateral side. Recovery from stroke is affected by premorbid status. Cardiovascular disease causes a majority of strokes. The purpose of this case report is to describe a progressive PT plan of care for a patient following MCA stroke with multiple comorbidities in the skilled nursing setting.

Solving The Information Security & Privacy Crisis By Expanding The Scope Of Top Management Personal Liability, Charles Cresson Wood

Journal of Legislation

While information security and privacy losses are now spiraling out of control, and have been demonstrably shown to threaten national sovereignty, military superiority, industrial infrastructure order, national economic competitiveness, the solvency of major businesses, faith and trust in the Internet as a platform for modern commerce, as well as political stability, the U.S. Congress has nonetheless to date refused to seriously address the root cause of these threats. The root cause is a legally reinforced incentive system that encourages, and further entrenches, top management decisions that provide inadequate resources for, and inadequate top management attention to, information security and privacy …

Machine Learning Prediction Of Seizure Outcome With Presurgical Resting-State Fmri Data, Xiaosong He, Dorian Pustina, Michael R Sperling, Ashwini Sharan, Joseph I Tracy Dec 2016

Machine Learning Prediction Of Seizure Outcome With Presurgical Resting-State Fmri Data, Xiaosong He, Dorian Pustina, Michael R Sperling, Ashwini Sharan, Joseph I Tracy

Department of Neurosurgery Posters

Rationale:

Developing a quantitative algorithm for predicting seizure outcome following anterior temporal lobectomy (ATL) in temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) patient would constitute a significant advance for presurgical decision making. In this project, we tested the ability of topographic properties extracted from presurgical resting-state (rsfMRI) data to predict surgical outcome, using two separate maching learning classification methods (support vector machine, SVM, and random forest RF).
