The Effects Of Message Virality And Message Source On Facebook Users’ Perceptions Of Source Credibility, Norms, Attitudes, Emotional Responses, And Behavioral Intentions, Anne M. Borsai
Doctoral Dissertations
The present study explored the effectiveness of an anti-alcohol PSA in the context of Facebook. The study analyzed the effects of message source and message virality (i.e., high shares and likes vs. low shares and likes) on user’s perceived trustworthiness of the post, depth of processing, social norms, attitudes, emotional responses, and behavioral intentions regarding alcohol consumption. Participants viewed an anti-binge drinking PSA developed by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) posted on a mock Facebook profile page in a 2 (message source: CDC post vs. peer-repost) x 2 (virality: high likes and shares vs. low likes and …

Distributed All-Ip Mobility Management Architecture Supported By The Ndn Overlay, Zhiwei Yan, Guanggang Geng, Sherali Zeadally, Yong-Jin Park
Information Science Faculty Publications
Two of the most promising candidate solutions for realizing the next-generation all-IP mobile networks are Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6), which is the host-based and global mobility supporting protocol, and Proxy MIPv6 (PMIPv6), which is the network-based and localized mobility supporting protocol. However, the unprecedented growth of mobile Internet traffic has resulted in the development of distributed mobility management (DMM) architecture by the Internet engineering task force DMM working group. The extension of the basic MIPv6 and PMIPv6 to support their distributed and scalable deployment in the future is one of the major goals of the DMM working group. We propose an …

Peatlands contain one-third of soil carbon (C), mostly buried in deep, saturated anoxic zones (catotelm). The response of catotelm C to climate forcing is uncertain, because prior experiments have focused on surface warming. We show that deep peat heating of a 2 m-thick peat column results in an exponential increase in CH4 emissions. However, this response is due solely to surface processes and not degradation of catotelm peat. Incubations show that only the top 20–30 cm of peat from experimental plots have higher CH4 production rates at elevated temperatures. Radiocarbon analyses demonstrate that CH4 and CO2 are produced primarily from …

National Institutes Of Health Stroke Scale Certification Improved Assessment And Care Of Veterans: A Quality Improvement Project, Joshua W. Baker
DNP and Student Works
This pilot project sought to fill the gap in practice that included a lack of early recognition, assessment skills and practice guidelines for the care of stroke patients, improving patient care and hand off communication. A team was formed at an 11-unit Veterans Health Administration facility. The team comprised various nursing disciplines whom were invited to discuss the current state of veteran care, and current evidence based practices of stroke recognition and care. Pre- and post- intervention tests were administered and data was collected to measure the assessment, recognition, and comfort level of registered nurses (RNs). Data revealed nine out …

Modeling The Skull-Brain Interface Using Sylgard 527 Phantoms, Jake Ireland, Ruth Okamoto
Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science Independent Study
The goal of my research is to create a phantom capable of simulating brain tissue mechanical properties. This phantom will be tested with Magnetic Resonance Elastography (MRE) to retrieve data about the wave-motion taking place in the phantom. During the summer and past few months, I have created a homogenous Sylgard 527 phantom, a simple model, representing only the skull and brain tissue. In addition, I fabricated an interface phantom that simulates the skull, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and brain tissue. Upon testing the interface phantom for wave-motion, a large chemical shift was discovered. As a result, it was determined that …

Improved Genome-Scale Multitarget Virtual Screening Via A Novel Collaborative Filtering Approach To Cold-Start Problem, Hansaim Lim, Paul Gray, Lei Xie, Aleksandar Poleksic
Publications and Research
Conventional one-drug-one-gene approach has been of limited success in modern drug discovery. Polypharmacology, which focuses on searching for multi-targeted drugs to perturb disease-causing networks instead of designing selective ligands to target individual proteins, has emerged as a new drug discovery paradigm. Although many methods for single-target virtual screening have been developed to improve the efficiency of drug discovery, few of these algorithms are designed for polypharmacology. Here, we present a novel theoretical framework and a corresponding algorithm for genome-scale multitarget virtual screening based on the one-class collaborative filtering technique. Our method overcomes the sparseness of the protein-chemical interaction data by …

String Vibration Frequency Altering Shape, Ismet Handzic, Kyle B. Reed
USF Patents
The present invention is a novel variable tension string instrument that relies on a kinetic shape to actively alter the tension of a fixed length taut string. A mathematical model was derived that relates the two-dimensional kinetic shape equation to the string's physical and dynamic parameters. With this model, an automated instrument was designed and constructed to play frequencies within predicted and recognizable frequencies along with programmed melodies.
