Moral Distress, Leadership Integrity, Ethical Climate And Turnover Intent In Critical-Care Nurses, Desha L. Johnson Makiya Dec 2016

Moral Distress, Leadership Integrity, Ethical Climate And Turnover Intent In Critical-Care Nurses, Desha L. Johnson Makiya

Nursing Theses and Dissertations

Objectives: To determine what relationships exist between moral distress, perceived leadership integrity, ethical climate, and turnover intent among adult critical care nurses and the moderating effect of leadership integrity and ethical climate on moral distress and subsequent turnover intent; to obtain a richer and fuller understanding of how critical care nurses experience moral distress within the context of critical care work.

Participants: Adult critical care nurse members of AACN (n=254), 22-70 years old, recruited February – March 2016.

Methods: A Qualtrics survey posted on the AACN eNewsline included the moral distress scale-revised, perceived leadership integrity scale, hospital ethical …

Bullying Experiences And Resilience In Lgbtq Youth, Melinda Mccormick Dec 2016

Bullying Experiences And Resilience In Lgbtq Youth, Melinda Mccormick

Dissertations

Many young LGBTQ people are experiencing bullying which can lead to increased risk of suicide, drug abuse, and depression, as well as an increased risk of out-of-home placements in either foster care or homeless shelters. As a result of this, LGBTQ young adults are often framed as being at risk. Although this has been helpful in the past in order to raise awareness of the challenges experienced by LGBTQ young people, there is also evidence that they show resilience in response to those challenges. In order to advance the social work value of being strengths-based, this research looked for examples …

Image Politics: U.S. Aid To The Spanish Republic And Its Refugees, Sebastiaan Faber Dec 2016

Image Politics: U.S. Aid To The Spanish Republic And Its Refugees, Sebastiaan Faber

Faculty & Staff Scholarship

The Spanish Civil War marks an important chapter in the development of non-governmental refugee aid as we know it. But studying the case of U.S. aid for Spanish Republican refugees also brings into focus some of the tensions and contradictions associated with the concept of humanitarianism, including the role played by documentary images. What were the ideals that moved those who fought against fascism or aided antifascist refugees in the 1930s and ‘40s? Were they properly political, or did they transcend politics, becoming humanitarian? The distinction is crucial to understanding the efforts undertaken to aid Spanish Civil War refugees and …

Preliminary Study Of Internal Solitary Wave Amplitude Off The East Coast Of Korea Based On Synthetic Aperture Radar Data, Dan-Bee Hong, Chan-Su Yang, Kazuo Ouchi Dec 2016

Preliminary Study Of Internal Solitary Wave Amplitude Off The East Coast Of Korea Based On Synthetic Aperture Radar Data, Dan-Bee Hong, Chan-Su Yang, Kazuo Ouchi

Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan

This paper presents a method of retrieving the amplitude of oceanic internal solitary wave (ISW), from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data, and preliminary results obtained in the East/ Japan Sea off the east coast of Korean Peninsula. The retrieval algorithms include the small perturbation method (SPM) for microwave backscatter, the action balance equation (ABE) for describing the interaction between wind-generated ocean waves and varying surface current, and also the Korteweg-deVries (KdV) (non-linear partial differential) equation for describing the surface current variation induced by an internal soliton. The radar cross section (RCS) was computed, and the ISW amplitude was estimated by …

Underwater Linear Feature Extraction With Multispectral Band Images: An Evaluation With Level-Set Method In Dongsha Atoll And Zengmu Shoal, Peter Tian-Yuan Shih, Jian-Wei Lin, Cheng-Gi Wang Dec 2016

Underwater Linear Feature Extraction With Multispectral Band Images: An Evaluation With Level-Set Method In Dongsha Atoll And Zengmu Shoal, Peter Tian-Yuan Shih, Jian-Wei Lin, Cheng-Gi Wang

Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan

Optical remote sensing satellite images are a useful and convenient source to provide underwater features, particularly for shallow water areas because light, dependent on wavelength, has the capability to penetrate water. In this study, the information richness of underwater features is investigated for each spectral band of the optical images, and also several derived bands. This assessment is performed with the level-set method for segmentation. Two cases are analyzed in this study. The first study site is the Dongsha atoll, which is composed of Dongsha island, lagoon, and surrounding reefs. The water depth ranges from zero to less than 3 …

The Fourth Crusade: An Analysis Of Sacred Duty ‌, Dale Robinson Dec 2016

The Fourth Crusade: An Analysis Of Sacred Duty ‌, Dale Robinson

Honors Theses

The crusades were a Christian enterprise. They were proclaimed in the name of God for the service of the church. Religion was the thread which bound crusaders together and united them in a single holy cause. When crusaders set out for a holy war they took a vow not to their feudal lord or king, but to God. The Fourth Crusade was no different. Proclaimed by Pope Innocent III in 1201, it was intended to recover Christian control of the Levant after the failure of past endeavors. Crusading vows were exchanged for indulgences absolving all sins on behalf of the …
