Interprofessional practice (IPP), collaboration of professionals from different backgrounds working together to provide services, is of growing importance in speech-language pathology and across other disciplines in the vast health field (WHO, 2010). The American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) stresses the importance of communicating roles and responsibilities of health professionals to provide the best quality care for patients (Dixon & Oandasan, 2015). In order to understand the roles and responsibilities across disciplines, health care professionals and students need to be provided with the necessary education. Currently, an initiative for interprofessional competency is being constructed to provide more involved education for …

Sustainability And Spread Of Community-Based Initiatives: A Case Study Of Community Cares, A Children’S Hospital’S 16 Year Effort To Serve Its Community, Robert F. Austin, Patricia Coleman, Stephanie Meads, Angelo P. Giardino
Journal of Family Strengths
The sustainability and spread of innovations is often elusive, presenting continuous challenges to clinicians and healthcare leaders. Somewhere between 33 - 70% of all innovations are reportedly not sustained, and even fewer are spread beyond the original team, or to other units within an organization. In plain language, sustainability is defined as locking in progress, while continually building upon that foundation, while spread is the exchange of knowledge and experience to others beyond the original implementing team. The literature supports the concept that sustainability is both multi-dimensional and multi-factorial and has several characteristics and pre-conditions. Tax-exempt, not-for-profit organizations in the …

Tokovi Storitev Neplačanega Dela Med Generacijami In Spoloma: Primerjava Italije, Nizozemske In Velike Britanije, Ana Šeme, Jože Sambt
Economic and Business Review
The article presents the age distribution of production, consumption and net transfers of unpaid (household) service work for three European countries - Italy, the Netherlands and the UK. This type of analysis is made possible by the relatively new method of 'national time transfer accounts', which introduces the dimension of age into unpaid work. We find that patterns of unpaid work are significantly influenced by the institutional and cultural environment and that there are also large gender differences. The amount of unpaid work also changes over time. It is emphasised that it is important to include unpaid work in the …

The Impact Of Owner's Identity On Corporate Capital Structure, Josephat Lotto
The Impact Of Owner's Identity On Corporate Capital Structure, Josephat Lotto
Business Management Review
This paper examines how the identity of corporate owners affects corporate leverage in the UK. Using data from a sample of 643 listed UK firms, the results show that family-controlled firms have higher debt ratios than companies controlled by financial institutions. The implication is that family-controlled companies prefer debt to equity in their capital structure due to either a control-enhancing mechanism and/or firm ' s protection from take-over threats. The paper, further confirms that corporate control contestability has also a positive impact on debt ratio. In essence, a smaller value of control contestability signifies more equal distribution of the voting …

On September 14, 2015 the Advanced LIGO detectors observed their first gravitational wave (GW) transient GW150914. This was followed by a second GW event observed on December 26, 2015. Both events were inferred to have arisen from the merger of black holes in binary systems. Such a system may emit neutrinos if there are magnetic fields and disk debris remaining from the formation of the two black holes. With the surface detector array of the Pierre Auger Observatory we can search for neutrinos with energy Eν above 100 PeV from pointlike sources across the sky with equatorial declination from about …

Fostering Undergraduate Spiritual Growth Through Service-Learning, Michelle S. Barrett
Scholarship and Professional Writing from the J.D. Power Center and Donelan Office
Scholars and educational leaders have expressed concern that higher education is not adequately meeting students’ desire for spiritual growth within an academic context. Prior studies have demonstrated a relationship between the pedagogical method of service-learning and spiritual development. This study analyzed the relationship between specific service-learning components and the occurrence of spiritual growth in an effort to better understand how such growth can be fostered within the curriculum. Findings indicated that spiritual growth occurred when students experienced significant challenge balanced with support. Challenge was initiated when students witnessed injustice while simultaneously being exposed to new, diverse perspectives in class. Support …
