An Examination Of The College Major Decisions Of Students At The University Of Mississippi, Jonathan P. Evans
An Examination Of The College Major Decisions Of Students At The University Of Mississippi, Jonathan P. Evans
Honors Theses
Factors such as socio-economic status affect students' level of educational aspiration. Furthermore, major (and thus career choice) may be influenced by race or gender. This study demonstrates the effects of academic aptitude, race, gender, first generation status, and importance of expected future earnings on undergraduate students' college major decision. More specifically, this study examines if these factors lead to an increase or decrease in the probability of students choosing a major in a specific field. The likelihood of choosing a major in a specific field is relative a baseline category, which can be changed.
Evaluation Of The Prevalence And Treatment Trends Of Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy Among Patients With Diabetes In A Rural Population, Lauren Daigle
Evaluation Of The Prevalence And Treatment Trends Of Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy Among Patients With Diabetes In A Rural Population, Lauren Daigle
Honors Theses
Evidence for adherence to the American Diabetes Association's (ADA) screening and treatment guidelines for various health complications of diabetes in rural populations is limited. The ADA recommends annual foot and eye exams and supports the use of the Semmes-Weinstein monofilament (SWM) to detect signs of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). This study evaluated the prevalence and treatment trends of DPN among patients with diabetes in a rural population. Fifty-two individuals over the age of 18, with known Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes mellitus, were recruited to participate. Participants were asked to respond to a 29-item, multiple choice and freeform question …
Paleolithic Protection In A Western World: A Look Into Preagricultural Nutrition As A Remedy For The Diseases Of Civilization, Emilie R. Caron
Paleolithic Protection In A Western World: A Look Into Preagricultural Nutrition As A Remedy For The Diseases Of Civilization, Emilie R. Caron
Honors Theses
The aim of this investigation is to discover the associations of the Western diet to noncommunicable diseases and to determine if a reversion to a Paleolithic diet will provide treatment and prevention of these diseases. Noncommunicable diseases, otherwise known as Diseases of Civilization, are lifestyle influenced diseases and encompass obesity, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, and associated cancers. Incidences of these diseases have skyrocketed in the past century and show no signs of decline. Since 1900, the death rates due to heart disease and cancer have risen to account for 47% of total deaths in the United States in 2010. (Tippett, …

The Factors Influencing Terminal Market Prices Of Organic Vegetables & Fruits: Illustrated By The Examples Of Carrot, Broccoli, And Banana, Tianzheng Luo, Tianzheng Luo
Research Papers
This article studies the factors influencing the market price of organic fruits and vegetables. After several decades’ development, organic farming has become an important part of global agricultural markets, and besides, organic vegetables are also the largest part of organic sales. The study tends to find the significant factors that exert influence on the market. What’s more, carrot, Broccoli and Banana are the examples in the study. The results show that the increase of the market price of organic fruits and vegetables is influenced by the PPI, the number of stores, and the market price of non-organic fruits and vegetables, …

AN ABSTRACT OF THE RESEARCH PAPER OF
MARIE E. FUNK, for the Master of Science degree in FOOD AND NUTRITION & KINESIOLOGY, approved on NOVEMBER 1, 2016, at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
TITLE: SELECT DIETARY FATTY ACIDS MODULATE BRAIN LONG CHAIN OMEGA-3 AND OMEGA-6 PUFA CONTENET IN MICE
MAJOR PROFESSOR: Dr. William Banz
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of mental and physical disability and death in the general population. Neuronal dysfunction and behavioral decline associated with TBI can result from membrane instability in neurons, synaptic junctions, glia, endothelial cells and intracellular organelles. Membrane integrity, and reaction to …
