Uruk Journal of Human Sciences

The Arabic language is a tool of communication that God Almighty has clothed in the garment of holiness when He chose it from among the languages of mankind to be spoken in the Arabic tongue. He imposed it as a means of communication between Him and His servant. Prayer is not valid without it, in addition to all of His rulings: transactions and worship. A language of this status must have guardians who preserve and serve it, in accordance with the Almighty’s saying: “Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur’an and indeed, We will be its guardian” (Al-Hijr: …

The Morphological Significance Of Vowel Words In Arabic: A Study In The Book “Fiqh Al-Lughah” By Al-Tha’Alibi, Razak Jafar Abdul Hussein, Zainab Eidans Halil

Uruk Journal of Human Sciences

It's no secret that morphological forms are semantic structures. Transforming a word into different structures for various meanings is the practical meaning of morphology. Our ancient scholars investigated the semantic connotations specific to morphological forms and identified the difference between linguistic meaning and morphological meaning—that is, the meaning of the form or structure. They also highlighted the critical role morphological forms play in identifying the boundaries between words in context. (2) And it is what Ibn Jinni (392 AH) called artificial meaning. So he said in the chapter on verbal, artificial and semantic meaning: Know that each one of these …

Using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis From A Realist Perspective, Hyeseung Jeong, Juliana Othman

The Qualitative Report

The article presents how a study that investigated the acquisition of second language academic literacy skills practised the qualitative methodology, interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA), from a realist perspective. We share the rationale behind the methodological decisions made in the study, which is followed by a detailed description of the methodological practice. In addition, the evaluation of the study against the realist criteria is reported, and some implications of using IPA based on realism for educational research are discussed. Overall, we suggest that IPA practice from a realist perspective helps go beyond postmodernism paradigms that seems to exert considerable influence on …

“This Is Our Life. We Can’T Drive Home.” An Analysis Of Culturally Relevant Pedagogy As Perceived By Elementary Teachers, Students And Families In An Urban Charter School, Elaine Azalia Mcneil-Girmai

LMU Theses and Dissertations

As schools have become more diverse ethnically and linguistically, the likelihood of cultural mismatches among students, families, and teachers has increased (Frank, 1999). Culturally relevant pedagogy has at its core the understanding that incorporating students‘ culture into the practices of the school and the classroom through culturally relevant curriculum is likely to improve student cooperation, inspire a greater understanding of the educational program, and increase academic outcomes (Brown, 2004). These pedagogies have the potential to be a vital tool toward closing the achievement gap, yet the practices associated with them are in danger of meeting the same fate as multicultural …

Examining English Language Development Among English Language Learners With Specific Learning Disability, Karla Vanessa Estrada

LMU Theses and Dissertations

As the population of English Language Learners (ELLs) continues to grow in schools, so does the concern for their lack of academic progress and the possible inequitable representation of this culturally and linguistically diverse population in special education (Artiles, Rueda, Salazar, & Higareda, 2005; Guiberson, 2009; Mac Swan & Rolstad, 2006; Rinaldi & Samson, 2008).
