“Please Stop Telling Her To Leave.” Where Is The Money: Reclaiming Economic Power To Address Domestic Violence, Margo Lindauer
Seattle University Law Review
In this Article, I argue that economic dependence is a critical factor in violence prevention. For many victims of domestic violence, the economic entanglement with an abusive partner is too strong to sever contact without another source of economic support. This Article is a thought experiment in economic justice; it asks the question: is there a way to provide outside economic support for a victim of violence fleeing a battering partner? In this Article, I examine existing systems such as Social Security, unemployment assistance, work-readiness programs, crowd sourcing, and others to evaluate how these sources could provide emergency economic support …

Journal of Health Disparities Research and Practice
Introduction. In states such as Florida that did not expand Medicaid, a large number of economically disadvantaged individuals do not qualify for subsidies to buy health insurance through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) 2. This leaves the health needs of Florida’s homeless population largely unaddressed. Nearly 48.1% of Alachua County’s homeless population has disabling conditions 16. This confirms a pressing need to understand the homeless population's healthcare needs, knowledge, and barriers in accessing healthcare. Methods. We used a Community-Based Participatory Research model in conducting health fairs and needs assessment surveys, incentivizing participation, and providing education about existing resources. …

Self Sufficiency In Refugees, Sarah Zayed
Self Sufficiency In Refugees, Sarah Zayed
Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection
The Syrian refugee crisis has taken the world by storm as it is not only a Jordanian issue or a Middle Eastern issue but rather it is a humanitarian crisis. The intent of this research is to study Syrian refugees living in Jordan whom are living outside of refugee camps and their level of self-sufficiency. A few ideas the researcher has kept in mind throughout this study are: Are refugees working in the same fields as they did in Syria? Does Jordan really invest in these workers? What is the Syrian point of view? What is the Jordanian government point …

Journal of Dispute Resolution
Mediation is a non-binding type of dispute resolution. Mediation is a process where a neutral, third party with no authoritative decision-making power assists parties in a dispute to voluntarily reach a mutually acceptable agreement. The legal community has encouraged alternative dispute resolution, including mediation. With mediation as the primary alternative dispute resolution type in the federal district courts, it is now even more important that legislation surrounding mediation and confidentiality is created. In fact, over half of the ninety-four federal court districts now offer, and in most instances, require mediation.
