Approach Towards Bpm Adoption Under Hierarchy-Market Culture: A Case Study, Brina Buh, Mojca Indihar Štemberger
Approach Towards Bpm Adoption Under Hierarchy-Market Culture: A Case Study, Brina Buh, Mojca Indihar Štemberger
Economic and Business Review
Organizational culture affects the success of business process management (BPM) adoption. Since organizational culture is very difficult to change, organizations should adapt their approach towards BPM adoption to suit the existing organizational culture. The aim of this paper is to find out what approach towards BPM adoption might be appropriate in an organization with Hierarchy-Market culture. For this, we conducted a case study of a large insurance company in South-East Europe. Our findings show that elements, such as formal and well organized approach, and emphasis on benefits of BPM contributed to BPM adoption success in the studied organization with Hierarchy-Market …

The Costs Of Traffic Accidents Due To The Heterogenization Of Traffic Flows On Slovenian Motorways, Marina Zanne, Aleš Groznik, Elen Twrdy
Economic and Business Review
The evolution of modal split of freight transport is causing the heterogenization of traffic flows on motorways, so the aim of the paper is to explore the effects of changing structure of traffic flows on Slovenian motorways on road safety and to assess this effect in a financial way. We have calculated crash costs of accidents that were caused by trucks as well as the crash costs of the accidents involving trucks. In addition, we created two safety performance functions for prediction of the number of traffic accidents on Slovenian motorways. The number and the share of accidents involving trucks on …

Copyright © 2015 Wolters Kluwer Health, Inc. The Caenorhabditis elegans model is a rapid and inexpensive method to address pharmacologic questions. We describe the use of C. elegans to explore 2 pharmacologic questions concerning candidate antiobesity drugs and illustrate its potential usefulness in pharmacologic research: (1) to determine a ratio of betahistine-olanzapine that blocks the olanzapine-induced intestinal fat deposition (IFD) as detected by Nile red staining and (2) to identify the mechanism of action of a pharmaceutical candidate AB-101 that reduces IFD. Olanzapine (53 mg/mL) increased the IFD (12.1 6 0.1%, P < 0.02), which was blocked by betahistine (763 mg/mL, 39.3 6 0.01%, P < 0.05) in wild-type C. elegans (N2). AB-101 (1.0%) reduced the IFD in N2 (P < 0.05), increased the pharyngeal pumping rate (P < 0.05), and reversed the elevated IFD induced by protease inhibitors atazanavir and ritonavir (P < 0.05). AB-101 did not affect IFD in a ACS null mutant strain acs-4(ok2872) III/hT2[bli-4(e937) let-?(q782) qIs48](I;III) suggesting an involvement of the lipid oxidation pathway and an upregulation of CPT-1. Our studies suggest that C. elegans may be used as a resource in pharmacologic research. This article is intended to stimulate a greater appreciation of its value in the development of new pharmaceutical interventions.

Self-Perceived Impact Of Undergraduate Socialization And Identity Development On The Experiences Of High-Achieving African American Women, Christina Shaneil Ealy
Self-Perceived Impact Of Undergraduate Socialization And Identity Development On The Experiences Of High-Achieving African American Women, Christina Shaneil Ealy
Theses and Dissertations
Statistics show an increase in college enrollment of African American women, despite the formal and informal barriers that persist (Roach, 2001, Altbach, Lomotey, & Rivers, 2002, Thomas & Jackson, 2007). Fewer studies focus particularly on African American women as do those of Collins (2000), Howard-Hamilton (2004), and Winkle-Wagner (2008, 2009). Despite their increase in enrollment, African American women in college face many informal barriers that are constructed according to race, gender and class (Howard-Hamilton, 2003, Winkle-Wagner, 2009). These informal barriers should be examined to understand how they impact socialization and identity development of high achieving African American women in higher …
A Case Study For Integration Of Legacy Healthcare Electronic Medical Records Into A Trusted Data Warehouse Utilizing Master Data Management, Michael Greer
Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation is focused in the case study of how a large academic, medical, research centers used the principles of master data management to design, build, and implement an enterprise data warehouse. Data governance, stewardship, entity resolution, and strong supporting metadata programs are at the center of a successful enterprise data warehouse. Migrating legacy clinical and research data in structured, unstructured, text, images, signature, pictures, and multimedia format into a single trusted data warehouse is a significant task. On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed into law one of the most comprehensive revisions to our nation’s health care system in …
Providing A Way For Students With Autism Spectrum Disorder To Succeed In Transitioning To Postsecondary Educational Institutions: A Collaborative Project, Susan W. Ligon
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this qualitative research study was to examine two community colleges and two universities located in Arkansas that each provide a specialized program for students with disabilities including students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or specifically for students with ASD. Using parts of the Communicative Model of Interorganizational Collaboration developed by Koschmann and Isbell (2009) and the Stage Model of Collaboration posited by Kezar and Lester (2009) to frame the study, the conceptual framework combined various variables into constructs that included educational organization, external constituencies, and interorganizational collaboration that composed the factors leading to successful transitions to and …
Linking Transcriptional And Physiological Responses To High Light Stress In A Wild-Type And A Photomorphogenic Tomato Mutant, Jordyn Radke
Linking Transcriptional And Physiological Responses To High Light Stress In A Wild-Type And A Photomorphogenic Tomato Mutant, Jordyn Radke
Theses and Dissertations
Tomato (Solanum lycopersicon) is the leading vegetable crop worldwide and an important part of a healthy human diet. In this study we used Next-Generation Sequencing, metabolomics and gene ontologies to study the effects of high light stress on the photomorphogenic hp-2dg tomato mutant. Wild-type (cv. ‘Manapal’) and mutant plants were grown for six weeks under low light and transferred to high light for one week. Illumina-based RNA Sequencing was performed and analysis of differential gene expression identified over 650 transcripts that were strongly regulated by light intensity (FC>4, p2,p<0,01). HPLC analysis of tomato leaves showed differential accumulation of phenylpropanoid metabolites such as chlorogenic acid, rutin, and caffeoylglucaric acid which was strongly dependent on genotype and light condition. Our findings show insightful differences between the wildtype and the photomorphogenic mutant as well as novel genes involved in high light adaptation in plants.
Attitudes Of Advanced Placement Teachers Toward Debate: Meeting The 21st Century Critical-Thinking Needs Of Gifted Secondary Students, Allison Mcmath Mcmath
Attitudes Of Advanced Placement Teachers Toward Debate: Meeting The 21st Century Critical-Thinking Needs Of Gifted Secondary Students, Allison Mcmath Mcmath
Theses and Dissertations
Young Americans must be equipped, both individually and collectively, with the 21st century skills, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity, in order to thrive in the global landscape which lies before them. Little political or economic capital is devoted to maximizing academic opportunities for gifted secondary learners. Limiting opportunities for children and youth with the potential for performing at remarkably high levels of accomplishment, deprives them of their right to an appropriate education and wastes a national resource. Recognizing that limited capital often circumscribes schools in their ability to provide special programs, the researcher proffers debate, a course within the …

BACKGROUND: Previous research has shown fluid replacement beverages ingested after exercise can affect hydration biomarkers. No specific hydration marker is universally accepted as an ideal rehydration parameter following strenuous exercise. Currently, changes in body mass are used as a parameter during post-exercise hydration. Additional parameters are needed to fully appreciate and better understand rehydration following strenuous exercise. This randomized, double-blind, parallel-arm trial assessed the effect of high-pH water on four biomarkers after exercise-induced dehydration.
METHODS: One hundred healthy adults (50 M/50 F, 31 ± 6 years of age) were enrolled at a single clinical research center in Camden, NJ and …

The Heart Of The Home: Developing The Modern Kitchen In Little Rock's Boyle House, Danielle T. Butler
Theses and Dissertations
In 1922, kitchens in Arkansas looked quite a bit different than they do today. In this same vein, Arkansas kitchens were very different from other contemporary examples on the East coast that have been studied as an archetype for kitchen development nationwide. This project was designed to serve as a primary example of the changes in kitchens in Arkansas. Entitled The Heart of the Home, the project consisted of a tour that featured the kitchen of the Boyle House at 2020 Arch Street. The tour focused on the changes in the Boyle House kitchen from the construction of the home …
We Are What We Ate: Southern Food And Southern Cooking, Alyssa Rogers
We Are What We Ate: Southern Food And Southern Cooking, Alyssa Rogers
Theses and Dissertations
Southern cooking is fluid–ever-changing, influential, and influenced by both Southerners and non-Southerners alike. In this thesis, I explore what constitutes Southern cooking. The foods, cooking methods, and acquisition of foodstuffs and ingredients influence Southerners as cooks and the communities we live in. In the following pages, I’ve connected primary research via interviews with existing literature about Southern foods, cooking, techniques, lifestyles, and cultures. My primary research is derived from authentic interviews with real Southerners. The results from my research are not groundbreaking, but they do serve to help Southerners understand their relationship to and with Southern food and Southern cooking.

Social Work Faculty Publications
Social workers rarely receive education and training in the areas of grief, bereavement, and death and dying, which may lead to difficulties in compassionately and ethically addressing concerns in end-of-life or grief-related contexts. This article presents actual and potential outcomes from three challenging end-of-life case studies using Mattison’s ethical decision-making model as a framework. The case studies were drawn from student interviews with experienced master’s-level social workers. This pedagogical article helps to promote self-reflection and consideration of ethical issues in grief and death-related situations as well as supplement death education and ethics curricula to include end-of-life content.

It has been well documented that cognitive conflict is sensitive to the relative proportion of congruent and incongruent trials. However, few studies have examined whether affective conflict processing is modulated as a function of proportion congruency (PC). To address this question we recorded eventrelated potentials (ERP) while subjects performed both cognitive and affective face-word Stroop tasks. By varying the proportion of congruent and incongruent trials in each block, we examined the extent to which PC impacts both cognitive and affective conflict control at different temporal stages. Results showed that in the cognitive task an anteriorly localized early N2 component occurred …
The Effect Of Teaching Strategies And Learning Environment On Certification Exam Pass Rates In Dietetic Education, Debra Head
