Analysis Of Repairable M[X]/(G1,G2)/1 - Feedback Retrial G-Queue With Balking And Starting Failures Under At Most J Vacations, P. Rajadurai, M. C. Saravanarajan, V. M. Chandrasekaran Dec 2015

Analysis Of Repairable M[X]/(G1,G2)/1 - Feedback Retrial G-Queue With Balking And Starting Failures Under At Most J Vacations, P. Rajadurai, M. C. Saravanarajan, V. M. Chandrasekaran

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this paper, we discuss the steady state analysis of a batch arrival feedback retrial queue with two types of service and negative customers. Any arriving batch of positive customers finds the server is free, one of the customers from the batch enters into the service area and the rest of them join into the orbit. The negative customer, arriving during the service time of a positive customer, will remove the positive customer in-service and the interrupted positive customer either enters into the orbit or leaves the system. If the orbit is empty at the service completion of each type …

Independent Monopoly Size In Graphs, Ahmed M. Naji, N. D. Soner Dec 2015

Independent Monopoly Size In Graphs, Ahmed M. Naji, N. D. Soner

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In a graph G = (V;E), a set D ⊆V (G) is said to be a monopoly set of G if every vertex v ∈V-D has at least d(v)/ 2 neighbors in D. The monopoly size of G, denoted mo(G), is the minimum cardinality of a monopoly set among all monopoly sets in G. The set D ⊆ V (G) is an independent monopoly set in G if it is both a monopoly set and an independent set in G. The number of vertices in a minimum independent monopoly set in a graph G is the independent monopoly size of …

A Boundedness And Stability Results For A Kind Of Third Order Delay Differential Equations, Moussadek Remili, Djamila Beldjerd Dec 2015

A Boundedness And Stability Results For A Kind Of Third Order Delay Differential Equations, Moussadek Remili, Djamila Beldjerd

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

The objective of this study was to get some sufficient conditions which guarantee the asymptotic stability and uniform boundedness of the null solution of some differential equations of third order with the variable delay. The most efficient tool for the study of the stability and boundedness of solutions of a given nonlinear differential equation is provided by Lyapunov theory. However the construction of such functions which are positive definite with corresponding negative definite derivatives is in general a difficult task, especially for higher-order differential equations with delay. Such functions and their time derivatives along the system under consideration must satisfy …

On The Stability Of A Pexiderized Functional Equation In Intuitionistic Fuzzy Banach Spaces, Nabin C. Kayal, Pratap Mondal, T. K. Samanta Dec 2015

On The Stability Of A Pexiderized Functional Equation In Intuitionistic Fuzzy Banach Spaces, Nabin C. Kayal, Pratap Mondal, T. K. Samanta

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

During the last few decades several researchers have been devoted to establishing stability of different kinds of functional equations, differential equations, functional differential equations, fractional differential equations, etc. under different sufficient conditions in different spaces like Banach spaces, Banach modules, fuzzy Banach spaces etc. In this paper, we remain confined in the discussion of stability of functional equations in intuitionistic fuzzy Banach spaces. Ulam was the first person who introduced an open question concerning the stability of a group homomorphism in an international conference. Thereafter several researchers have replied and are still replying to this open question in different contexts. …

Accurate Spectral Solutions Of First And Second-Order Initial Value Problems By The Ultraspherical Wavelets-Gauss Collocation Method, Y. H. Youssri, W. M. Abd-Elhameed, E. H. Doha

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this paper, we present an ultraspherical wavelets-Gauss collocation method for obtaining direct solutions of first- and second-order nonlinear differential equations subject to homogenous and nonhomogeneous initial conditions. The properties of ultraspherical wavelets are used to reduce the differential equations with their initial conditions to systems of algebraic equations, which then must be solved by using suitable numerical solvers. The function approximations are spectral and have been chosen in such a way that make them easy to calculate the expansion coefficients of the thought-for solutions. Uniqueness and convergence of the proposed function approximation is discussed. Four illustrative numerical examples are …

F–Geometric Mean Graphs, A. D. Baskar, S. Arockiaraj Dec 2015

F–Geometric Mean Graphs, A. D. Baskar, S. Arockiaraj

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In a study of traffic, the labelling problems in graph theory can be used by considering the crowd at every junction as the weights of a vertex and expected average traffic in each street as the weight of the corresponding edge. If we assume the expected traffic at each street as the arithmetic mean of the weight of the end vertices, that causes mean labelling of the graph. When we consider a geometric mean instead of arithmetic mean in a large population of a city, the rate of growth of traffic in each street will be more accurate. The geometric …

On Calculation Of Failure Probability For Structures Designed Based On Magnitudes Of Historical Event, Farzad Noubary, Reza Noubary Dec 2015

On Calculation Of Failure Probability For Structures Designed Based On Magnitudes Of Historical Event, Farzad Noubary, Reza Noubary

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

During their operational life, structures may be subject to various types of live load caused by events such as earthquakes, high speed winds, etc. Given the design life of a structure, the probability for a specific live load to cause a failure depends on the magnitude of the load structure it is designed to withstand (designed load). In this article, methods are developed for calculation of the failure probability for structures designed to withstand loads comparable to historical loads at the site of interest.

Solution To Some Open Problems On E-Super Vertex Magic Total Labeling Of Graphs, G. Marimuthu, M. S. Raja Durga, G. D. Devi Dec 2015

Solution To Some Open Problems On E-Super Vertex Magic Total Labeling Of Graphs, G. Marimuthu, M. S. Raja Durga, G. D. Devi

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

Let G be a finite graph with p vertices and q edges. A vertex magic total labeling is a bijection f from V(G)∪E(G) to the consecutive integers 1, 2, ..., p+q with the property that for every u∈V(G) , f( u)+ ∑f(uv)=K for some constant k. Such a labeling is E-super if f :E(G)→{1, 2,..., q}. A graph G is called E-super vertex magic if it admits an E-super vertex magic labeling. In this paper, we solve two open problems given by Marimuthu, Suganya, Kalaivani and Balakrishnan (Marimuthu et al., 2015).

Silicon Carbon Nanotube Lithium Ion Batteries, Lawrence Kent Barrett Dec 2015

Silicon Carbon Nanotube Lithium Ion Batteries, Lawrence Kent Barrett

Theses and Dissertations

Silicon has the highest theoretical capacity of any known anode material, and silicon coated carbon nanotubes (Si-CNTs) have shown promise of dramatically increasing battery capacity. However, capacity fading with cycling and low rate capability prevent widespread use. Here, three studies on differing aspects of these batteries are presented. Here, three studies on differing aspects of these batteries are presented. The first examines the rate capability of these batteries. It compares the cycling of electrodes hundreds of microns thick with and without ten micron access holes to facilitate diffusion. The holes do not improve rate capability, but thinner coatings of silicon …

Prenatal Exposure To Perfluoroalkyl Acids And Serum Testosterone Concentrations At 15 Years Of Age In Female Alspac Study Participants, Mildred Maisonet, Antonia M. Calafat, Michele Marcus, Jouni J.K. Jaakkola, Hany Lashen

ETSU Faculty Works

Background: Exposure to perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) or to perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) increases mouse and human peroxisome proliferator–activated receptor alpha (PPARα) subtype activity, which influences lipid metabolism. Because cholesterol is the substrate from which testosterone is synthesized, exposure to these substances has the potential to alter testosterone concentrations.

Objectives: We explored associations of total testosterone and sex hormone–binding globulin (SHBG) concentrations at age 15 years with prenatal exposures to PFOS, PFOA, perfluorohexane sulfonic acid (PFHxS), and perfluoronanoic acid (PFNA) in females.

Methods: Prenatal concentrations of the perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) were measured in serum collected from pregnant mothers at enrollment (1991–1992) …

Molecular Dynamics Simulation Of Force-Controlled Nanoindentation, Keaton Jaramillo Dec 2015

Molecular Dynamics Simulation Of Force-Controlled Nanoindentation, Keaton Jaramillo

Mechanical Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses

The aim of this honors research is to develop a force-controlled nanoindentation algorithm for molecular dynamics simulation. The algorithm was tested on Silicon using the Tersoff potential and Gold using the Embedded-Atom Method (EAM) potential. The effect of varying the damping parameters that adjust the system pressure and changing run length between force iterations is explored. The force-controlled algorithm was developed and shown to be working by correlating pop-in events shown in the force versus displacement (P-h) curves to visualization software showing phase transformation or dislocation events in the sample.

Morphology Based Framework For Improved Driver's Visibility In Inclement Weather Conditions, Saleem Farhood Hussein Dec 2015

Morphology Based Framework For Improved Driver's Visibility In Inclement Weather Conditions, Saleem Farhood Hussein

Masters Theses

The U.S. Department of Transportation reports that on average there are 5,870,000 vehicle accidents each year. Twenty-three percent (23%) of these accidents are attributed to weather conditions with an annual average of more than 6,000 people are killed and 480,000 people are injured. Weather-related accidents occur mainly because of the low visibility on the roads under inclement conditions such as snow, rain and fog. While these conditions can be predictable and individuals try to avoid driving in inclement weather, there are circumstances that require driving in such conditions such as emergency responders or when the severity of the storm has …

Economic Feasibility Of Aquaponics In Arkansas, Leah Ashley English Dec 2015

Economic Feasibility Of Aquaponics In Arkansas, Leah Ashley English

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Concerns regarding population growth and resource scarcity have led to a recent renaissance of food production research. Over the past few decades, scientists have discovered new and innovative methods for growing food that, cumulatively, may hold the key to efficiently and sustainably feeding an ever-increasing world population. One method, known as aquaponics, has shown promise as being a sustainable solution for producing food locally in all parts of the world. Although many studies have shown aquaponic food production to be technically feasible, there are relatively few studies concerning the economic feasibility of aquaponics in various regions. To determine whether aquaponics …

Model Minority Mismatch: Exploring The Community College Experience And Persistence Of Southeast Asian American Students, Genda Vann Ed.D Dec 2015

Model Minority Mismatch: Exploring The Community College Experience And Persistence Of Southeast Asian American Students, Genda Vann Ed.D

Dissertations

This study aimed to investigate the relationship of Southeast Asian American student involvement and persistence in urban community colleges of Illinois. There are large gaps in research regarding the academic struggles of Southeast Asian American students because most data concerning Asian Americans is aggregate, consolidating all experiences rather than considering each sub-group independently. The existing data revealed that Asian Americans are performing exceptionally well in academics, especially when compared to other minority groups, such as African American and Latinos, resulting in Asian Americans being stereotyped as the “model minority” (CARE, 2008). However, a closer assessment of the data shows that …

Representations Of Politicians In Contemporary Ghanaian Hiplife Music, Mark Nartey Dec 2015

Representations Of Politicians In Contemporary Ghanaian Hiplife Music, Mark Nartey

CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture

In his article "Representations of Politicians in Contemporary Ghanaian Hiplife Music" Mark Nartey argues that in Asare Obeng's music politicians in Ghana are depicted as self-seeking, self-serving, and self-centered. Further, he argues that since its emergence on the Ghanaian music scene in the early 1990s, hiplife music now transcends its original purpose of providing an entertainment outlet for its audience, predominantly the youth, offering them a pleasurable and therapeutic means of escaping from the harsh realities and pressures of life. Importantly, Nartey demonstrates that this musical genre has taken on a new and, perhaps, more important role: a legitimate avenue …
