Influence Of Myeloperoxidase On Colon Tumor Occurrence In Inflamed Versus Non-Inflamed Colons Of Apc(Min/+) Mice, Mazin Al-Salihi, Ethan Reichert, Frank A. Fitzpatrick

Control of colorectal cancer needs to be tailored to its etiology. Tumor promotion mechanisms in colitis-associated colon cancer differ somewhat from the mechanisms involved in hereditary and sporadic colorectal cancer. Unlike sporadic or inherited tumors, some experimental models show that colitis-associated colon tumors do not require cyclooxygenase (COX) expression for progression, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) which prevent sporadic or inherited colon cancer do not prevent colitis-associated colon cancer. We report that myeloperoxidase (MPO), an ancestor of the COX isoenzymes, is a determinant of colitis-associated colon tumors in Apc(Min/+) mice. During experimentally induced colitis, inhibition of MPO by resorcinol dampened …
Digital Justice: An Exploratory Study Of Digital Activism Actions On Twitter, Damien Sánchez
Digital Justice: An Exploratory Study Of Digital Activism Actions On Twitter, Damien Sánchez
Journal of Educational Technology Development and Exchange (JETDE)
This paper employs learning analytics to determine the relationships between digital activism action categories. Organizing that took place on Twitter in response to the shooting death of Tony Robinson, an African American teenager, was guided by the digital activism typology developed by Penney and Dadas (2014). The results yielded a positive correlation between seeking connections with activists and providing face-to-face updates from protests, which suggests people who seek connections with activists are likely to participate in live protests. Forwarding Information and Facilitating Online Actions were found to be negatively correlated with all other study variables. These findings lead to the …
The Ethical Limits Of Discrediting The Truthful Witness: How Modern Ethics Rules Fail To Prevent Truthful Witnesses From Being Discredited Through Unethical Means, Todd A. Berger
Marquette Law Review
Whether the criminal defense attorney may ethically discredit the truthful witness on cross-examination and later during closing argument has long been an area of controversy in legal ethics. The vast majority of scholarly discussion on this important ethical dilemma has examined it in the abstract, focusing on the defense attorney’s dual roles in a criminal justice system that is dedicated to searching for the truth while simultaneously requiring zealous advocacy even for the guiltiest of defendants. Unlike these previous works, this particular Article explores this dilemma from the perspective of the techniques that criminal defense attorney’s use on cross-examination and …

Evaluation, Design, And Cost Analysis Of A 256 Acre Almond Orchard, John Michael Halseth
Evaluation, Design, And Cost Analysis Of A 256 Acre Almond Orchard, John Michael Halseth
BioResource and Agricultural Engineering
This project discusses the evaluation, design, and cost analysis of a 256 acre almond orchard. This is a high flow low head system, and the application method is referred to as dual line drip. The system will be designed to be able to meet weekly water requirements within a tight time constraint, and it is important that it can do so efficiently while providing good uniformity.
A dual line drip system was designed for this almond orchard using the correct engineering standards and integrated field and farmer constraints. The system design was based on a peak evapotranspiration rate of 7.69 …

High Speed Jet Turbine Test Final Report, Kenneth Enstrom, Cameron Naugle, Isaac Thomas, Cody Lee
Mechanical Engineering
At high flight altitudes and speeds, external airplane elements are subject to immense loads. External devices must be put through testing that simulates these loads to ensure safety of the device. Our system will subject a device in need of testing to a jet of air, similar to wind seen on the surface of an airplane. The High Speed Air Jet Turbine Test project team has been tasked to design, build, and test an apparatus capable of acquiring real world flight data for micro-ram air turbines (microRAT). The micro-RAT is a device that provides power to an electrical device by …

Epilepsy is one of the most common chronic neurological disorders requiring prolonged treatments and drugs. According to The World Health Organization (WHO), epilepsy is one of those serious brain disorders that affect not only the individual but has a deep impact on the family and society in general. Approximately 50 million people are affected with epilepsy around the world36, though proper epidemiological studies do not exist for Pakistan it is estimated that the prevalence of epilepsy is 9.99/1000. Highest prevalence is seen in people younger than 30 years of age, i.e. about 2 million people and 1/10th of the world …

Pakistan Journal of Neurological Sciences (PJNS)
Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS) case definitions have been developed in recent past for its quick diagnosis. However, they have not been adopted worldwide especially in developing countries like Pakistan. In this study, we validated the sensitivity of Brighton working group case definitions for GBS at Services Hospital Lahore. Methods: A total of 30 cases of GBS with available clinical history, neurological examination, cerebrospinal fluid(CSF) and nerve conduction studies (NCS) results, and exclusion of related diagnoses were selected (2014–2015). Sensitivity of the Brighton criteria for GBS for level 3 of diagnostic certainty which requires no clinical laboratory testing, level 2 which employs CSF …

Three-Dimensional Neurorehabilitation: A Different Perspective, Ahmad Zaheer Qureshi, Randolph Mitchell Jenkins
Pakistan Journal of Neurological Sciences (PJNS)
The authors have narrated their perspective on rehabilitation of neurological disabilities based upon their experiences in three different regions of the globe, hence the word "three dimensional". It also reflects the need of holistic approach in neurorehabilitation. The article emphasizes the significance of impact of socio-cultural factors on disability and the way different challenges can change outcomes of the same neurological impairment in different health care systems. The understanding, perception and management of disability secondary to any neurological impairment varies greatly from one region to another across the world. Hence treatment guidelines applicable in one socioeconomic setup may not be …

In 2013 an international taskforce of the ILAE shaped out a communal definition of Epilepsy.(2) This definition is useful for all or most practical purposes, thus more helpful in management. Epilepsy was defined as recurrent unprovoked seizures i.e 2 or more at least 24 hours apart. The revised practical definition implies that Epilepsy can be considered even after a single seizure in individuals who have other factors predictive of a second unprovoked seizure, a risk set at 60%. The factors include the diagnosis of an epilepsy syndrome, structural lesions like stroke, CNS infections, intraparenchymal contusions after trauma, as well as …
