Body Weight Supported Treadmill Training And Overground Gait Training In The In-Patient Setting For An Individual With Chronic Stroke: A Case Report, Stephanie Bordignon Dec 2015

Body Weight Supported Treadmill Training And Overground Gait Training In The In-Patient Setting For An Individual With Chronic Stroke: A Case Report, Stephanie Bordignon

Case Report Papers

Background and Purpose: The use of body weight supported treadmill training (BWSTT) and overground gait training (GT) has been shown to improve bilateral coordination and gait symmetry for patients experiencing chronic stroke. Evidence to support BWSTT rather than overground GT for use following chronic stroke is mixed and does not include representation for the young stroke population. The purpose of this case report is to describe the outcomes of gait speed, efficiency of gait, and fall risk in an individual following a chronic stroke managed with intense BWSTT and overground GT. Description: 43 year old male was managed with BWSTT …

Treatment Of A Patient With Thoracolumbar Scoliosis Utilizing A Regional Interdependence Approach Including Components Of The Schroth Method: A Case Report, Samantha Fisk

Case Report Papers

Background and Purpose: Spinal deformity is a challenging spinal disorder in adults. A scoliotic curve of >10 degrees exists in up to 12% of the population and while surgery is the definitive measure, there is limited evidence to guide non-surgical treatment. This case investigated traditional physical therapy (PT) treatment utilizing a Regional Interdependence Approach (RIA) and components of the Schroth method for a patient with chronic low back pain (CLBP). Case Description: A 66 year old male presented with CLBP, worst upon rising in the AM with (6/10 NPRS). Imaging demonstrated thoracolumbar dextroscoliosis, bilateral foraminal narrowing and associated spondylolisthesis of …

The Minimum And Other Free Energies For Non-Linear Materials With Memory., John Murrough Golden Dec 2015

The Minimum And Other Free Energies For Non-Linear Materials With Memory., John Murrough Golden

Articles

Expressions are obtained for free energies of materials with a certain type of non-linear constitutive relation. In particular, the minimum and related free energies are considered in some detail. Minimal states are defined for these materials, and it is shown that any free energy yielding a linear constitutive equation that is a functional of the minimal state has a counterpart in the non-linear case which is also a minimal state functional in this more general context. These results are explored for simple examples, including discrete spectrum materials.

Implementing A One-To-One Technology Initiative In Higher Education, Daryl Fridley, Diana Rogers-Adkinson

Administrative Issues Journal

This paper describes the process of conceptualizing and implementing a one-to-one technology initiative at a regional comprehensive university. Organized around the principle that sustainable change requires attention to clear, justifiable goals, attention to key decisions, the development of stakeholder investment, adequate training, building appropriate infrastructure, and a concern for sustainability, the authors provide specific examples detailing how the change initiative in which they participated addressed each of those areas.

Neuromuscular Strengthening Exercises Following Acl And Meniscal Repair In A 15 Year Old Female Athlete With Generalized Knee Laxity: A Case Report, Alyssa Gardner Dec 2015

Neuromuscular Strengthening Exercises Following Acl And Meniscal Repair In A 15 Year Old Female Athlete With Generalized Knee Laxity: A Case Report, Alyssa Gardner

Case Report Papers

Background and Purpose: Adolescent females are 4-6 times more likely to sustain a non-contact anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury compared to their male counterparts. Generalized knee laxity decreases dynamic knee stability and further increases injury risk. In patients with a history of bilateral knee hyperextension who have sustained an ACL injury, it’s vital to recover function after surgery, as well as prevent injury in the contralateral knee. A lack of information exists that addresses simultaneous rehabilitation protocols. The purpose of this case report was to investigate the use of a neuromuscular strengthening program in both the ACL injured and un-injured …

Case Report Papers

Background and Purpose: Within the confines of approved Physical Therapy (PT) visits from independent and national insurance companies, PTs are often challenged to improve a patient’s impairments and Quality Of Life (QOL) in a limited number of approved visits. The purpose of this case report is to document if six PT visits with aquatic intervention for a patient with chronic low back pain (CLBP) and radiculopathy improves a patient’s subjective and objective impairments in relation to his QOL. Case Description: The patient was a sixty-two year old male who presented to PT with CLBP for the previous forty years secondary …

Background and Purpose: Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a movement disorder that can lead to declines in function and falls. As a common age-related neurological diagnosis, PD is most often accompanied by other co-morbidities. The purpose of this case report is to document the physical therapy management of a patient presenting with PD and other co-morbidities. This case report looks at the outcomes of strength and balance exercises on the patient’s impairments, mobility and overall function. Case Description: The 69 year-old male patient presented with a history of PD, Lyme disease, osteoarthritis, peripheral neuropathy (PN) and exposure to Agent Orange. He …
