Fundamental Mathematics Of Consciousness, Menas Kafatos

We explore a mathematical formalism that ties together the observer with the observed in the view that Consciousness is primary, operating through three principles which apply at all levels, the essence of qualia of experience. The formalism is a simplified version of Hilbert space mathematics encountered in quantum mechanics. It does, however, go beyond specific interpretations of quantum mechanics and has strong philosophical foundations in Western philosophy as well as monistic systems of the East. The implications are explored and steps for the full development of this axiomatic mathematical approach to Consciousness are discussed.

In this work we combine Wiener chaos expansion approach to study the dynamics of a stochastic system with the classical problem of the prediction of a Gaussian process based on part of its sample path. This is done by considering special bases for the Gaussian space G generated by the process, which allows us to obtain an orthogonal basis for the Fock space of G such that each basis element is either measurable or independent with respect to the given samples. This article uses my own experience navigating the law review placement process to reflect on the dynamics that shape intellectual life at American law schools. My recent work focuses on the legal relationship between unmarried lovers who conceive. At its heart, it is about the law’s role in shaping the precursor to pregnancy—heterosexual sex. When I began researching this topic what I was most curious about was how law and culture might conspire to foster connections that are more loving and less violent, more authentic and less alienated. In this symposium essay, I explore the politics of botched executions, discussing state responses to the latest round of executions gone wrong and the ways in which those responses matter. Part I recounts four botched executions in 2014 and the state responses that accompanied them. Part II makes three observations about those responses-one about states' fealty to the death penalty, one about backlash politics and the scope of the public relations problem, and one about the changing cultural construct of lethal injection in the United States. This paper examines the civil rights of youth who are missing or discharged from foster care and become victims of sexual exploitation. It also addresses future implications of this epidemic, given demographic patterns of the United States, if we do not address this issue now. Section II describes the demographics of adolescents in foster care. Next, Section III addresses the sexual exploitation of this population. Section IV describes the legal framework of the foster care system and legislation pertaining to sexually exploited youth. This essay stops far short of advocating for a three-year bar exam course in place of a traditional law school education. It does not even argue for dedicating the final semester of law school to bar exam preparation. Rather, it suggests that the incorporation of elements of bar preparation into the law school curriculum actually can accomplish the dual objectives of, first, making law school education more efficient, and, second, enhancing the students' educational experience and grasp of the legal principles and skills necessary for passing the bar and, ultimately, becoming better lawyers.

Conventional wisdom has long held that leadership decisions in corporate litigation are best left to the lawyers. Even as the world of corporate litigation has changed dramatically, courts have consistently relied on the lawyers themselves to decide who among them will control litigation decisions. As a result, leadership decisions in corporate litigation are almost always made in private negotiations and back room deals. Advances in cancer treatment are saving lives, but along with the benefits come challenges. Millions of cancer survivors of working age need to support themselves and their families. This Article looks at the impact of cancer on employment starting with the empirical evidence gathered by researchers affiliated with medical centers. This empirical research provides a base, not previously explored in the legal literature, for assessing the existing laws dealing with cancer and employment (or unemployment). In the Rodriguez decision, the U.S. Supreme Court held that the plaintiffs did not have a right under the Constitution's Equal Protection Clause, which required the state of Texas to remedy disparities in funding for schools in high-wealth and low-wealth school districts. One of the principal reasons that the Court rejected the plaintiffs' claims was the need to maintain the current balance of power between the federal and state governments over education. Virginia now averages less than a single death sentence each year, a far cry from its not-too-distant history as the second most active death penalty state in the nation. The numbers alone tempt us to forecast the death of Virginia's death penalty: a death by disuse. But those numbers leave much of the story untold. The plummeting number of death sentences is only the diminishing tip of a larger, more stable iceberg of capital case litigation. That iceberg is melting very slowly, if at all.

Part I of this article chronicles marriage equality's rise and development nationally. It ascertains that challenges, which fos- tered the invalidation of marriage prohibitions that essentially govern nearly all jurisdictions, including Virginia, have triggered some controversy. Part II scrutinizes Judge Wright Allen's resolu- tion of the Virginia litigation and the United States Court of Ap- peals for the Fourth Circuit determination, which affirmed her ruling. This portion finds that the district jurist comprehensively assessed the relevant legal and factual issues when striking down the proscription while the Fourth Circuit appropriately upheld her opinion. Assembly of polymerase chain reactions at room temperature can sometimes lead to low yields or unintentional products due to mispriming. Mutation of isoleucine 707 to leucine in DNA polymerase I from Thermus aquaticus substantially decreases its activity at room temperature without compromising its ability to amplify DNA. To understand why a conservative change to the enzyme over 20 Å from the active site can have a large impact on its activity at low temperature, we solved the X-ray crystal structure of the large (5′-to-3′ exonuclease-deleted) fragment of Taq DNA polymerase containing the cold-sensitive mutation in the ternary (E–DNA–ddNTP) and binary …

Interstate coordination presents one of the most difficult challenges for American federalism as well as for energy markets and policy. Existing laws vest the approval of large-scale energy infrastructure projects such as interstate oil pipelines and high-voltage, interstate electric transmission lines with state and local levels of government. At the same time, state siting and eminent domain regimes routinely enable and even encourage state regulators to hold out from approving interstate infrastructure projects, hobbling any hope for interstate coordination. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the canonical Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway on the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth in vitro. Methods: Stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth (SHED) were stimulated with human recombinant Wnt3A at various concentrations (50, 100 and 200ng/ml) in basic growth medium and osteogenic medium. Modern postural yoga is an amalgamation of practices that continues to defy traditional explanatory models that understand religious, spiritual, and secular to be mutually exclusive categories. In this project, I conduct in-depth interviews with yoga instructors in the Ozarks. In these interviews, I asked my informants to explain how they understand religious, spiritual, and secular. I then asked if and how they would use those words to describe yoga. These interviews revealed that religious, spiritual, and secular are not mutually exclusive, but are instead related, blended, and connected, especially when used to describe yoga. The organizational constructs that we examined were distributive justice, procedural justice and interactional justice. The research led to us proposing 12 hypotheses using correlations, t-tests, and logistic regressions. This thesis investigated whether Social Stories used in conjunction with perspective- taking questions would lead to an improved Theory of Mind (ToM) in three participants diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We assessed participants’ perspective taking in a baseline condition, implemented a Social Story condition, and tested participants’ perspective taking again in a post-intervention condition. ToM was assessed using two variations of the false belief measures, namely the change-location and unexpected-contents paradigms. Each Social Story included three perspective-taking questions that required participants to infer a character’s emotion or perspective. This study examines the relationship between auditor partner rotation and fraudulent financial reporting in the post Sarbanes-Oxley conservative environment. Audit firm tenure impacts the quality of the audit and the likelihood of fraudulent financial reporting. Data were retrieved from Accounting and Auditing Enforcement Releases and Computstat spanning the years 1998 through 2008. A logistic regression model similar to one used by Carcello and Nagy (2004) was utilized for the study. Fraudulent financial reporting served as a proxy for audit quality. This thesis aims to analyze the uplift capacity of a burial pipeline in two types of soil namely cohesionless soils and cohesive-frictional soils. Finite element analysis with two dimensional plain strain condition were employed to model and determine the limit load of this problem. Cohesionless and cohesive-frictional soils were model as Mohr-coulomb materials in the drained condition while a pipeline was modeled as plate element with an elastic material with high axial and bending stiffness to ensure its rigid behavior.
