Coaches’ Perceptions Of Video Analysis In College Hockey, Nicholas Czurylo

Master of Education in Applied Human Development Graduate Projects

Recent scholarly research has identified performance analysis as a significant part of the coaching process. With technology advancing every day, it has never been easier for coaches to analyze performance anytime or anywhere, no matter the skill level. While the what of performance analysis has been researched in-depth, the how and the why of the use of video-based performance analysis within this coaching process has been ignored. Therefore, with recent scholarly writing in mind, most notably Groom (2012), this study looks to further develop his empirically-based understanding of some of the realities of the use of video-based performance analysis feedback …

Where Are All The Women? The Decline Of Female Coaches Post Title Ix, Madeline Amon

Master of Education in Applied Human Development Graduate Projects

This paper helps illustrate the decline of female coaches in the NCAA post Title IX. Before Title IX was passed female coaches coached over 90% of female athletes and currently, while female sport participation is at an all-time high, female’s coaching female athletes is not. This drop in females coaching is a serious issue that demands change. This paper calls for change within the current NCAA administrative structure. This paper looks at recent literature surrounding the issue and replicates a study conducted by Dr. Nicole LaVoi from the University of Minnesota that illustrates the issue at the Division I level. …

Master of Education in Applied Human Development Graduate Projects

Using the framework established in Lough & Pharr (2012), as well as Lough & Pharr (2010), this study differentiated the CSR initiatives of specific NFL franchises as cause-related (CRM) or social marketing based on five variables: 1) locus of benefit; 2) outcomes/objectives sought; 3) target market; 4) voluntary exchange; and 5) marketing perspective. The NFL franchises investigated were the New York Giants whom inhabit the NFL’s largest television market, and the Green Bay Packers whom inhabit the NFL’s smallest television market (NFL, 2012). A content analysis was conducted on the “Community” section of each team’s respective website which described their …

The Value Of Internships Within Athletic Training Education: Educators’ Views, Heather Arlene Landry Shirley Jan 2015

The Value Of Internships Within Athletic Training Education: Educators’ Views, Heather Arlene Landry Shirley

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In a struggling global economy, internships offer students the opportunity to connect with a network of resources early on in their career journey and provide students with the hands-on work experience that is not often found within the confines of the classroom (Hindmoor, 2010). Higher Education is continuously posed with the challenge of defending the type of education that students are being given and the value that education has (Arum & Roska, 2011a; Arum & Roska, 2014b; Hacker & Dreifus, 2010). With that in mind, internships could be the missing link that leaves future graduates equipped with the much-needed preparation …

The Effects Of Environmental Consciousness And Menu Information On Consumers’ Perceptions Of Restaurant Image And Purchase Behavior Related To Local Foods, Daniel A.G. Remar Jan 2015

The Effects Of Environmental Consciousness And Menu Information On Consumers’ Perceptions Of Restaurant Image And Purchase Behavior Related To Local Foods, Daniel A.G. Remar

Theses and Dissertations

Sustainability initiatives have become increasingly important and relevant to the foodservice industry. Despite the fact that consumer demand for sustainable restaurant practices has grown substantially over the last 10 years, consumers’ pro-environmental attitudes and behavioral intentions are not always turned into concordant behavior. Though foodservice operators continue to make progress in developing new methods and strategies for implementing sustainable practices into operations, getting consumers to behave in accordance with their demand is a major challenge.

The purpose of this quasi-experimental study is to determine if consumers’ attitudes towards local food, widely considered a sustainable restaurant practice, are congruous with their …

The Jacksonville Commitment Scholars Program: Graduates’ Perceptions Of Supports And Challenges, Ouida Y. Powe

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The success of The Jacksonville Commitment Scholars Program is well documented. These scholars are retained at a much higher rate and the six year graduation rate of the first two cohorts was higher than the general body. They are all students whose families have minimal financial resources and were eligible for the free or reduced lunch program during their high school years. They were subsequently eligible for the Pell Grant upon college entry demonstrating significant financial need. Many of these students were first-generation students. They have been successful but the specifics of how they collectively found such success was unknown. …

This study examined exceptional student educators’ (ESE) personal practical theories (PPTs) and how they impact complex decision-making when it comes to students with disabilities and their families. A case study methodology was selected to explore how four ESE teachers and leaders developed their PPTs as well as how they planned, interacted, and reflected upon decisions made during one workweek. The guiding questions of this study were: what are the PPTs of ESE leaders and teachers, what factors influence the development of PPTs, and how do PPTs impact special educators’ work with students with disabilities? To address these questions, four participants …

The Perspectives Of Preschool Teachers On Instructional Coaching, Melanie Smith Clough Jan 2015

The Perspectives Of Preschool Teachers On Instructional Coaching, Melanie Smith Clough

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to examine how teachers describe instructional coaching. Instructional coaching has become a leading form of professional development in educational settings, yet there is a lack of empirical evidence that explains and clarifies it. One aspect of instructional coaching that is not known is how teachers perceive it. In order to gain understanding about instructional coaching, the perspectives of the teachers could provide valuable insight to benefit those involved in the practice. Instructional coaching and the schools where coaching takes place are complex in nature. Through the use of one-on-one interviews, an in-depth look at …

A Comparative Analysis Of Factors Influencing Spectatorship Of Disability Sport: A Qualitative Inquiry And Next Steps, Michael Cottingham, Brian Gearity, Andrew Goldsmith, Wonyoung Kim, Matt Walker Jan 2015

A Comparative Analysis Of Factors Influencing Spectatorship Of Disability Sport: A Qualitative Inquiry And Next Steps, Michael Cottingham, Brian Gearity, Andrew Goldsmith, Wonyoung Kim, Matt Walker

Journal of Applied Sport Management

To effectively market a sport event, it is necessary to determine the factors that influence spectator attendance. While a developed line of inquiry exists on the marketing of able-bodied sports, a gap in the literature exists in the disability sport context. Thus, there is a need to examine the synergy between existing motives that have been confirmed in traditional sport versus those that are unique to disability sport. This line of inquiry will help future researchers determine whether additional factors should be considered when marketing disability sport. The purpose of this study was to qualitatively explore the explicit and tacit …
