Sh2 Ligand-Like Effects Of Second Cytosolic Domain Of Na/K-Atpase Α1 Subunit On Src Kinase, Moumita Banerjee, Qiming Duan, Zijian Xie
Pharmaceutical Science and Research
Our previous studies have suggested that the α1 Na/K-ATPase interacts with Src to form a receptor complex. In vitro binding assays indicate an interaction between second cytosolic domain (CD2) of Na/K-ATPase α1 subunit and Src SH2 domain. Since SH2 domain targets Src to specific signaling complexes, we expressed CD2 as a cytosolic protein and studied whether it could act as a Src SH2 ligand in LLC-PK1 cells. Co-immunoprecipitation analyses indicated a direct binding of CD2 to Src, consistent with the in vitro binding data. Functionally, CD2 expression increased basal Src activity, suggesting a Src SH2 ligand-like property of CD2. Consistently, …

High Efficient Material And Process Combination For Future Aircraft Applications Based On Advanced Sheet Molding Compound Technologies, Marc Fette
Composites at Lake Louise (CALL 2015)
The increasing need for efficient passenger aircraft led to the development of innovative lightweight designs and an increasing demand on new lightweight materials such as carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) in the recent decades. Due to the high weight specific mechanical properties and the relatively high cost of raw materials, semi-finished and manufacturing the use of CFRP is limited on high performance applications, especially for components of the primary structures of aircraft.
Subsequently, fiber reinforced plastics (FRP) are also used in cabin and interior. Due to lower mechanical loads, but high requirements on fire protection, optics, surface and acoustics sandwich …

Mlaas: Machine Learning As A Service, Mauro Ribeiro, Katarina Grolinger, Miriam Am Capretz
Electrical and Computer Engineering Publications
The demand for knowledge extraction has been increasing. With the growing amount of data being generated by global data sources (e.g., social media and mobile apps) and the popularization of context-specific data (e.g., the Internet of Things), companies and researchers need to connect all these data and extract valuable information. Machine learning has been gaining much attention in data mining, leveraging the birth of new solutions. This paper proposes an architecture to create a flexible and scalable machine learning as a service. An open source solution was implemented and presented. As a case study, a forecast of electricity demand was …

The Quest For Success: A Phenomenological Study Aimed At Understanding The Experiences Of Successful African American Females In High School, Vanntaccale Price
Department of Educational Administration: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
This phenomenological research study was conducted to better understand the experiences of successful African American females in a high school setting and to draw implications for learning related to their perceptions of success in school. The study describes African American female students’ perceptions of factors that influence their achievement in school. Participants included six African American female students attending high school in the Midwest. Data was gathered from student interviews, parent/guardian questionnaires, informal observations, and student visual displays. From the analysis of the aforementioned data several themes emerged which include the importance of the students’ family and teachers to their …

Data Informed Learning: A Next Phase Data Literacy Framework For Higher Education, Clarence Maybee, Lisa Zilinski
Libraries Faculty and Staff Presentations
This poster was presented at the Association for Information Science and Technology’s (ASIS&T) Annual Meeting in St. Louis, MO on November 9, 2015. Accessing, using and managing data is increasingly recognized as an important learning outcome in higher education. Approaches to data literacy have typically been informed by information literacy. New approaches to information literacy have emerged that address how information is used in the different disciplinary contexts in which people learn and work. Successful approaches to data literacy will also need to address contextual concerns. Informed learning is an approach to information literacy that purposefully addresses contextual concerns by …

"I'M Man Enough; Are You?": The Queer (Im)Possibilities Of Walk A Mile In Her Shoes, Z Nicolazzo
Journal of Critical Scholarship on Higher Education and Student Affairs
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is a national program that has become a staple program to engage college males in sexual violence prevention on many college campuses. In this manuscript, I use queer theory and crip theory—a conceptual framework that merges queer and critical disability theory—to explore both the positive outcomes and potential harm done in the production and implementation of this event. I conclude the manuscript with considerations for educators seeking to engage college students in critical praxis around ending sexual violence on campus. These possibilities are rooted in Cohen's (1998) notion of reorienting future praxis around the …

An Investigation Into University Extra-Curricular Enterprise Support Provision, Sarah Preedy, Paul Jones
Plymouth Business School
Purpose – The employment market means students need to be equipped with wide-ranging enterprising skills and experience. With small- and medium-sized enterprises crucial to the health of the UK economy providing graduates with the skills to start-up their own business is also of increasing pertinence. The purpose of this paper is to analyse universities’ provision and delivery of student support in developing their enterprise knowledge, skills and experience outside of the curriculum. Design/methodology/approach – An e-survey of universities alongside three follow-up semi-structured interviews with participants and an in-depth case study was gathered. The e-survey quantified what enterprise support activities the …
