Thermal Damping And Retardation In Karst Conduits, A. J. Luhmann, Matthew D. Covington, J. M. Myre, Matija Perne, S. W. Jones, E. C. Alexander Jr., M. O. Saar

Geosciences Faculty Publications and Presentations

Water temperature is a non-conservative tracer in the environment. Variations in recharge temperature are damped and retarded as water moves through an aquifer due to heat exchange between water and rock. However, within karst aquifers, seasonal and short-term fluctuations in recharge temperature are often transmitted over long distances before they are fully damped. Using analytical solutions and numerical simulations, we develop relationships that describe the effect of flow path properties, flow-through time, recharge characteristics, and water and rock physical properties on the damping and retardation of thermal peaks/troughs in karst conduits. Using these relationships, one can estimate the thermal retardation …

The panel, which represented the perspectives of four stakeholder groups, …

Productivity And Efficiency Impacts Of Urea Deep Placement Technology In Modern Rice Production: An Empirical Analysis From Bangladesh, S Rahman, Bk Barmon Jan 2015

Productivity And Efficiency Impacts Of Urea Deep Placement Technology In Modern Rice Production: An Empirical Analysis From Bangladesh, S Rahman, Bk Barmon

School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences

Rice is the most dominant field crop in Bangladesh covering 75% of the total cultivated area and consumes 80% of the total fertilizers alone. Nevertheless, the productivity of rice in Bangladesh remains one of the lowest in the world. Urea, the main source of nitrogen (N), plays a key role in rice production, is required in large amount, is the most limited nutrient and also suffers from heavy system losses. A worldwide crisis of urea fertilizer in 2008 spurred the need to economise on its use with urgency. The Urea Deep Placement (UDP) technology is aimed at increasing N fertilizer …

Generational Differences In The Interaction Between Valuing Leisure And Having Work-Life Balance On Altruistic And Conscientious Behaviors, Sandeep Kaur Chahil Jan 2015

Generational Differences In The Interaction Between Valuing Leisure And Having Work-Life Balance On Altruistic And Conscientious Behaviors, Sandeep Kaur Chahil

Industrial-Organizational Psychology Dissertations

This study examined generational differences in the interaction between valuing leisure and having work-life balance to predict the extra-role behaviors of altruism and conscientiousness. I predicted that Millennial’s (b. 1981-2000) higher value of leisure and desire to have work-life balance would negatively influence their willingness to engage in organizational citizenship behaviors (OCBs). Specifically, I hypothesized that a) Millennials would report valuing leisure more yet have less work-life balance compared to Baby Boomers (b. 1946-1965) and Gen Xers (b. 1966-1980); b) Baby Boomers would report higher levels of altruistic and conscientious behaviors and c) Millennials who showed a negative interaction of …

A Stego-Analysis Techniques By Sod Using Statistical Measurements Based On Fpga, Elaf Sabah, Dhamyaa H. Mohammed, Thamir Rashed Saeed, Sabah A. Gitaffa

Iraqi Journal of Computers, Communications, Control and Systems Engineering

Steganalysis is the technique of analyzing a stego-image to determine whether it has embedded data or not. More deliberately steganalysis, it can be achieved by coding a program that examines the stego-image structure and measures its statistical properties. This paper presents a novel steganalysis algorithm by detecting the sequence occurrence distribution (SOD) of cover/setgo-image using three types of statistical randomness properties tests: Frequency, Serial and Poker. Where hidden a 2.4Х10-7% distortion of covering image in multiple-LSB (MLSB), the difference achieved detection between cover-stage images as; frequency is 0.91362828; serial is 3.45887 and poker is 160.6455. Also, this proposed algorithm can …

One-To-One Laptop Program: Effect On Boys' Education, Steven Males Jan 2015

One-To-One Laptop Program: Effect On Boys' Education, Steven Males

Theses

Since the beginning of 1:1 laptop programs in schools there has been extensive research undertaken about the effectiveness of how laptops are used for teaching and learning. With an educational environment in Australia where the use of Information Communications Technology (ICT) is one of the five general capabilities of the Australian Curriculum, an expectation to use ICT effectively for teaching and learning is explicit. However, the use of laptops for teaching and learning is complex for teachers and students. Furthermore, parents are expected to support their child’s learning in a digital age where mobile devices for learning are common. Therefore, …

The Readiness Of Primary Trained Graduate Teachers To Effectively Manage Classrooms In Kimberley Schools In Western Australia, Amanda Mccubbin

Theses

This study is unique in that it investigates the nature of the relationship between classroom management strategies, neophyte teachers and Indigenous students, in remote area classrooms. Given that the student population and teaching conditions in remote schools is usually significantly different from the demography of the students encountered in pre-service practica, the purpose of this research is to determine the effectiveness of course-specific classroom management strategies with Indigenous students located in a specific remote region of Western Australia.

This study was undertaken in both Department of Education and Catholic Education Office schools within the Kimberley region of Western Australia. This …

Corporate Social Performance, Analyst Stock Recommendations, And Firm Future Returns, Xueming Luo, Heli Wang, Sascha Raithel, Qinqin Zheng Jan 2015

Corporate Social Performance, Analyst Stock Recommendations, And Firm Future Returns, Xueming Luo, Heli Wang, Sascha Raithel, Qinqin Zheng

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

This study posits that security analysts heed corporate social performance information and factor it into their recommendations to general investors. In particular, as corporate social performance is often uncertain and ambiguous to general investors, analysts may serve as the informational pathway connecting corporate social performance to firm stock returns. Thus, we argue that analyst recommendations mediate the relationship between corporate social performance and firm stock returns. On the basis of not only a qualitative study with literature searches and interviews of stock analysts but also a quantitative study with two longitudinal samples of large firms, we find support for these …
