The Legal Academy Under Erasure, Richard E. Redding
The Legal Academy Under Erasure, Richard E. Redding
Catholic University Law Review
We hear much about the “crisis” in legal education: steep declines in law school enrollments and graduates unprepared for practice who cannot find jobs. Proposals to address the crisis enjoy wide support and are poised to dramatically change the landscape of legal education. These reforms are harmful to law students and the legal profession, placing the legal academy “under erasure,” as Jacques Derrida would say. They erase the academic nature of law school by: (1) reorienting it from an academically-grounded legal education towards vocational training, (2) requiring just two years of study for the J.D. degree, (3) allowing graduates of …

Data Breaches And Privacy Law: Lawyers’ Challenges In Handling Personal Information, Charlotte Duc-Bragues
Cornell Law School J.D. Student Research Papers
Sharing personal information with a lawyer potentially represents the greatest source of vulnerability for an individual. This paper seeks to provide an overview of the challenges faced by lawyers in handling personal information with regard to potential security breaches. Outpatient Care In Fairbanks: Supporting People With Schizophrenia, Alex Wiley
Outpatient Care In Fairbanks: Supporting People With Schizophrenia, Alex Wiley
Counseling
With the current lack of residential treatment facilities, long-term hospitalization, and mental health agencies that can fully support people with schizophrenia in Fairbanks, Alaska, there are many ethical concerns that must be addressed to best support clients with schizophrenia. The ethical considerations present in the success of outpatient care include: a) promoting the welfare of clients, b) utilizing plans that offer reasonable promise of success, c) understanding the limits imposed on the support networks of these clients, and d) the limitations of employment opportunities for these clients in an outpatient setting. Reviewing literature on the experiences of people with schizophrenia …

Journal of Applied Research on Children: Informing Policy for Children at Risk
The current wave of interest in human trafficking and the commercial sexual exploitation of children has exposed a lack of knowledge about the vulnerabilities leading to underage entry into sex work. This knowledge is necessary for the development of effective prevention programs to identify girls who are most at-risk, especially in Latin America, a region that is believed to be a large source of persons moved across international borders for the purposes of sexual and labor exploitation. The objective of this study was to explore and increase understanding of the vulnerability factors and pathways leading to underage entry into sex …

Love In The Age Of Measles: The Anti-Vaccination Movement In America, Seth L. Casey
Student Theses and Dissertations
The goal of this paper is to study the particular brand of anti-intellectualism prevalent in the anti-vaccination movement in the United States. The goal is to understand why some parents choose to ignore scientific consensus and trust the opinion of nonprofessionals. The paper will discuss the American distrust of intellectuals, professionals, and authority figures while focusing on the anti-vaccination movement. Conspiracy theories seems to have replaced rational option evaluation for a significant number of Americans. This must mean that conspiracy theories offer a more appealing answer to the vaccination question than scientific facts. Drawing on Hofstadter's classic Anti-intellectualism in American …
