The Ranking Of Contractors To The U.S. Department Of Defense According To Integrated Power Blocs Among The Contractors, F. Gregory Hayden, Elliot G. Campbell, Shannon Cummins Dec 2014

The Ranking Of Contractors To The U.S. Department Of Defense According To Integrated Power Blocs Among The Contractors, F. Gregory Hayden, Elliot G. Campbell, Shannon Cummins

Marketing & Entrepreneurship Faculty Publications

Knowledge about the power and misbehavior of defense contractors is substantial; yet their power continues to grow in full view of a record of waste, fraud, corrupt activity, and the failure to perform contracts. The knowledge base about defense contractors has not been sufficient to effectively oppose their extensive power. Knowledge is needed about how the boards of directors of the defense corporations are interlocked. That work is initiated in this article by ranking the top defense contractors in terms of the number of power blocs to which the corporations belong in the defense contractors' power-bloc network.

A Review Of The Design Of A Pedestrian Bridge In Cape Girardeau As Part Of The Senior Design Requirements Of The College Of Engineering, Amir Rezaeivahdati

Honors Theses

This paper analyzes the process, challenges and results of the design of the superstructure of a pedestrian bridge in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, as part of the extension of the existing Riverwalk trail along the Mississippi River. The project was assigned to three groups of students in the Senior Design B class of Fall 2014.

The original project consisted of an approximately 1700 ft pedestrian/bicycle trail along the river, a bridge over Aquamsi street and the railroad track and designing bicycle paths along the Fountain street and Morgan Oak street to connect to the existing trail (Figure 1.) Two groups consisted …

Examining The Role Of Dax-1 In Regulation Of Cell Proliferation In Human Breast Cells, Amy E. Scandurra Dec 2014

Examining The Role Of Dax-1 In Regulation Of Cell Proliferation In Human Breast Cells, Amy E. Scandurra

Master's Theses

DAX-1 is a member of the Nuclear Hormone Receptor superfamily and acts as a transcriptional repressor. DAX-1 plays an important role in the development of adrenal and gonadal tissues. In addition to its role in normal cell development and differentiation, DAX-1 appears to have some influence on the progression of cancer. This work aims to examine the role of DAX-1 in regulation of proliferation in breast cancer. In our study, we have expressed DAX-1 in a DAX-1 deficient breast cancer cell line as well as knocked down DAX-1 expression in normal DAX-1 positive breast cells. Through these experiments, we were …

A Preventive Approach To Post-Election Conflicts In Contemporary Africa, Edoh Agbehonou Dec 2014

A Preventive Approach To Post-Election Conflicts In Contemporary Africa, Edoh Agbehonou

Dissertations, Theses and Capstone Projects (Full IR Collection)

In this dissertation the author hypothesizes that (H1): In Africa, countries that use majoritarian electoral systems are more likely to experience post-election conflicts than are countries that use proportional electoral systems, (H2): In Africa, countries that use majoritarian electoral systems are more likely to experience post-election conflicts than are countries that use mixed electoral systems, and (H3): In Africa, countries that use mixed electoral systems are more likely to experience post-election conflicts than are countries that use proportional electoral systems.

These hypotheses are tested by using both primary qualitative and secondary quantitative data analyses in order to answer the research …

Assets Or Liabilities? Civil Society Organizations And Peacebuilding In Bawku East Municipality Of Ghana, Joseph Kingsley Adjei Dec 2014

Assets Or Liabilities? Civil Society Organizations And Peacebuilding In Bawku East Municipality Of Ghana, Joseph Kingsley Adjei

Dissertations, Theses and Capstone Projects (Full IR Collection)

Numerous studies have argued that civil society organizations (CSOs) have positive effects on society, an argument often defended by reference to the work of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in promoting development, labor solidarity, democratic accountability, and post-materialist causes in the developing world. Contemporary scholarship is strongly committed to the idea that CSOs play a strongly positive role in facilitating democracy and development. Today, CSOs are actively engaged in every sector of conflict management and development. From pre-conflict, conflict, to post-conflict phases of societal disintegration and rebuilding, CSOs deliver essential services, lobby the power system, advocate on behalf of the marginalized and …

Grazing Exclosure Experiment On The Henry Mountains Of Southern Utah, Johan Du Toit, Dustin Ranglack

Browse all Datasets

The data contained herein are the results of a grazing exclosure experiment on the Henry Mountains of S. Utah [38°5’ N, 100°50’W] to determine the relative impacts of bison, cattle, and lagomorphs on forage availability. Exclosures were erected in October 2011 and the standing crop of grass inside both exclosure types (full and partial), as well as an open reference plot was clipped in October 2012. Additionally, the local ranching community was surveyed to measure their perceptions of the bison – cattle conflict in the Henry Mountains.

Spring 2015 Apparel Line: Refined Simplicity, Rachael Y. Misiuta

Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects

Valuing in the billions of dollars, the fashion market is one of the biggest industries in the world and most of that money doesn’t come from selling a few couture pieces to wealthy clientele, but from selling hundreds of thousands of more reasonably priced pieces to the masses. This paper is not meant as a business plan on how to penetrate the market, but rather it seeks to answer the question, “will this apparel line sell?” While creating these designs, the target market was kept in mind and what these potential customers are looking for: simple designs that are easy …

Design And Implementation Of A New Multilevel Inverter Topology With Shared Power Switches / Jafferi Bin Jamaludin, Jamaludin Jafferi Dec 2014

Design And Implementation Of A New Multilevel Inverter Topology With Shared Power Switches / Jafferi Bin Jamaludin, Jamaludin Jafferi

Student Works (2010-2019)

The increasing attention drawn on multilevel inverters particularly in medium and high power applications has led to the enhanced efforts and initiatives to improve the features and competitiveness of multilevel inverters. This research is part of such efforts and initiatives, with the intended improvement is targeted at reducing circuit complexity and cost. For this purpose, a new three-phase multilevel inverter topology based on switch-sharing approach has been proposed in this research. The topology is made up of three modules. Combination of Module 1 and Module 2 produces an arrangement of the conventional full-bridge circuit with three bidirectional switches. Module 3 …

Senile Cardiac Amyloidosis: An Undervalued Cause Of Heart Failure., Toni Anne Alvarez De Venecia, Scott Blumhof, Daniel Ukpong, Marvin Lu, Claudia Nieves, Vincent M. Figueredo, M.D.

Division of Cardiology Faculty Papers

Despite recurrent hospitalizations for heart failure exacerbations, the underlying cause can be missed. Senile amyloidosis is a disease prevalent in the elderly African American population. Senile amyloidosis is underdiagnosed as a cause of heart failure because of its occurrence with more common comorbidities, such as long-standing systemic hypertension. It is important to maintain a high index of suspicion for senile amyloidosis in patients such as this case, who presented with multiple exacerbations of heart failure combined with characteristic electrocardiographic and echocardiographic findings.
