The Transformative Effects Of Public-Private Partnerships In Cleveland: An Inside View Of Good Government Under Mayors Voinovich And Jackson, Vera D. Vogelsang-Coombs, William M. Denihan, Melanie F. Baur

This article focuses on two mayoral-led public-private partnerships designed to renew good government in Cleveland — Mayor George Voinovich’s Operations Improvement Task Force (OITF) (1979-1982) and Mayor Frank Jackson’s Operations Efficiency Task Force (OETF) (2006-2009). The Voinovich OITF public-private partnership enabled Cleveland to “come back” after the city’s 1978 default. The Jackson OETF public-private partnership successfully rightsized Cleveland in relationship to its much smaller population needs during challenging economic times without disruptions in service. Southwestern Oklahoma State University students and employees enjoyed conducting the 2nd annual SWOSU Toy Drive which resulted in 58 new bikes, $2,000 in coats/gloves/hats, 19 tablets, around $7,000 in toys, and many food items for the Weatherford Middle School Pantry.

The New World tropics represents the most diverse region for tachinid parasitoids (Diptera: Tachinidae), but it also contains the most narrowly defined, and possibly the most confusing, tachinid genera of any biogeographic region. This over-splitting of genera and taxonomic confusion has limited progress toward our understanding the family in this region and much work is needed to revise, redefine, and make sense of the profusion of finely split taxa. In a recent analysis of the Neotropical genus Erythromelana Townsend, two species previously assigned to this genus, Euptilodegeeria obumbrata (Wulp) and Myiodoriops marginalis Townsend were reinstated as monotypic genera. Global competition and a down-sized labor force require manufacturers to use lean manufacturing practices. Current professional development models, however, are suboptimal in guiding efforts of first line supervisors to help workers improve their skills in solving manufacturing problems. This study employed an interpretive qualitative research methodology to explore what supervisors and workers experienced as the key factors that helped workers learn how to use lean manufacturing practices. Eight individuals who worked in an aerospace manufacturing plant located in the northeast United States participated in the study. There is a very limited number of existing probes whose fluorescence is turned on in the presence of the class of biological thiols made up of glutathione, cysteine, and homocysteine. The extant probes for this class of biological thiols commonly have poor aqueous solubility and long analyte response times, and they demand a very high probe/thiol ratio for decreased time of significant reporter signal generation; knowledge regarding their selectivity with respect to other sulfur-based analytes is unclear. The Strategic Planning Development Team was tasked with gathering, sorting and presenting in various modes the Mission statements of the membership of the Coalition of Urban Serving Universities and PSU’s OUS peer group. This report compiles these into one document, and also summarizes the data in word clouds. Finally, the first draft of PSU's vision statement is presented, with representative mission statements thought by Coraggio Group to be suitable for PSU.

UDP-glucopyranose mutase (UGM) catalyzes the interconversion between UDP-galactopyranose and UDP-galactofuranose. Absent in humans, galactofuranose is found in bacterial and fungal cell walls and is a cell surface virulence factor in protozoan parasites. For these reasons, UGMs are targets for drug discovery. Here, we report a mutagenesis and structural study of the UGMs from Aspergillus fumigatus and Trypanosoma cruzi focused on active site residues that are conserved in eukaryotic UGMs but are absent or different in bacterial UGMs. Kinetic analysis of the variants F66A, Y104A, Q107A, N207A, and Y317A (A. fumigatus numbering) show decreases in kcat/KM values of 200-1000-fold for the …
