Posed through critical theory on "third-space," and a brief history of Latin American Studies, this article pursues analysis of recent interdisciplinary scholarship in English, to delineate the emergence of a new subfield in Latina/o Catholicism, connected to greater understanding of Indigenous legacy. The article also demonstrates the path of study toward creation of a themed academic issue.

Minority rights and religion have never been topics that are simultaneously considered. However, arguably, the two have relevance, especially when combined with the topic and theory of constitutionalism. Historically and traditionally, minorities have been granted certain rights and have been denied certain rights under various constitutions. These grants and denials relate to cultural differences and values, arguably relating to a culture’s understanding and interpretation of religion.

A system for performing non-invasive networked medical procedures including a number of in vivo medical devices, a communication path between at least two of the devices, an ex vivo control unit to control the behavior of the devices, and a wireless communication path between the control unit and at least one of the devices. During the past decades, anticancer immunotherapy has evolved from a promising therapeutic option to a robust clinical reality. Many immunotherapeutic regimens are now approved by the US Food and Drug Administration and the European Medicines Agency for use in cancer patients, and many others are being investigated as standalone therapeutic interventions or combined with conventional treatments in clinical studies. Immunotherapies may be subdivided into "passive" and "active" based on their ability to engage the host immune system against cancer. Cuba and Vietnam, as survivors of the Cold War entered the post-Soviet Era with a myriad of economic woes. These eventually served as incentives for these countries to implement economic reforms that bolstered not only their economic performance, but also the survival of their respective states. Sociological imagination is an open invitation to theorize from the stories we tell about ourselves and others. More than self-expression, the sociological ethos of auto/biographical narration is to extend the reality of a solipsistic and exclusive existence into a common and public experience. In order to achieve this, the narrator must convert biographies into scribed realities. The narrating process, however, has unique epistemic anchorage (memory-based) and stylistic requirement (literary) that encage lived lives in a fictional genre, giving this mode of writing a unique interpretive lens that projects new visions of the social. Under the 1990 Immigration Control Act, nikkeijin or descendants of Japanese nationals who were born in foreign countries were granted limited rights to reside and work in Japan. Notwithstanding the contradictions of the policy framework, nikkeijin migration remains dynamic and robust. Impelled by socio-economic and cultural factors, Filipino nikkeijin have demonstrated an enduring cycle of migration, indicating socio-economic and cultural embeddedness within the host society. Thus, this paper discussed how Filipino nikkeijin acquired their nikkei recognition, initiated the migration process, and sustained massive flow despite Japan’s problematic immigration policies. Blurring Group Boundaries: The Impact Of Subgroup Threats On Global Citizenship, Stephen Reysen, Iva Katzarska-Miller, Phia S. Salter, Caroline Hirko

We examined the outcomes of an extinction threat (possible discontinuation of a group’s symbolic or actual existence) to one’s nation on global citizenship identification and related prosocial values. In Study 1, participants showed a drop in global citizenship identification when America was threatened (vs. absence of threat). In Study 2, participants reported lower global citizenship identification when America was threatened (vs. absence of threat) and the perception that one’s normative environment did not support a global citizen identity mediated the relationship between threat and identification. Furthermore, the threat was shown to indirectly predict lower endorsement for prosocial values and behaviors …

Background

Thymic stromal lymphoproetin (TSLP) is a cytokine secreted by the airway epithelium in response to respiratory viruses and it is known to promote allergic Th2 responses in asthma. This study investigated whether virally-induced secretion of TSLP is directional in nature (apical vs. basolateral) and/or if there are TSLP-mediated effects occurring at both sides of the bronchial epithelial barrier in the asthmatic state.

In most type 2 diabetes patients, amyloid plaques have been found juxtaposed with membranes of pancreatic β-cells. These plaques are composed of amyloid fibrils of the 37 residue endocrine hormone amylin and cause distinct changes in cell membrane morphology associated with the destruction of β-cells. Research is still ongoing to identify the toxic species involved and the mechanisms by which mature fibrils or oligomers cause cytotoxicity. The projects undertaken were designed to study the molecular structural features of amylin, mechanism of amyloid aggregation and, to develop cytotoxicity inhibitors.
