Law Of Included Multiple-Middle & Principle Of Dynamic Neutrosophic Opposition, Florentin Smarandache
Law Of Included Multiple-Middle & Principle Of Dynamic Neutrosophic Opposition, Florentin Smarandache
Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications
In this book the author pledges for the generalization of the Lupasco-Nicolescu’s Law of Included Middle [A, nonA, and a third value T which resolves their contradiction at another level of reality] to the Law of Included Multiple-Middle [A, antiA, and neutA, which is split into a multitude of neutralities between A and antiA, such as neutA1, neutA2, etc.]. The value (i.e. neutrality or indeterminacy related to A) actually comprises the included middle value.
Further, similarly to the extension from dialectics to neutrosophy, the author extends the Principle of Dynamic Opposition [opposition between A and antiA] …

But as precedents survive like the clavicle in the cat, long after the use they once served is at an end, and the reason for them has been forgotten, the result of following them must often be failure and confusion from the merely logical point of view.

Teacher Professionalism: What Educators Can Learn From Social Workers, Mary Antony Bair
Teacher Professionalism: What Educators Can Learn From Social Workers, Mary Antony Bair
Mid-Western Educational Researcher
Although there are numerous calls to enhance the professionalism of teachers, there is little empirical research in the United States that examines educators’ understanding of the concept. This exploratory case study compared the conceptualization of professionalism by faculty and students in a college of education vis-à-vis the conceptualization of the construct by faculty and students in a school of social work. Findings revealed that participants in the education program expressed individualistic and somewhat restricted views of professionalism. Social work faculty and some social work students, on the other hand, expressed a collective and extended view of the concept. These findings …

Speech Is My Hammer, It's Time To Build: Hip Hop, Cultural Semiosis And The Africana Intellectual Heritage, Samuel T. Livingston
Speech Is My Hammer, It's Time To Build: Hip Hop, Cultural Semiosis And The Africana Intellectual Heritage, Samuel T. Livingston
Journal of Hip Hop Studies
The article examines Hip Hop music's relationship with African cultural symbolism and the discipline of Africana Studies. The author maintains that Africana Studies must reclaim the study of cultural semiosis, which may be used to contextualize Hip Hop praxis. Examining semeiotic traces within African and Afrodiasporic primary sources, including Hip Hop lyrics, the article posits that Hip Hop is the latest development in a long tradition of Afro-Kemetic oral artistry, semeiotic systems and the uses of these dual literacies as modes of resistance and affirmations of Black historical and cultural agency. The article adapts Harryette Mullen's literary model of African …
Baadassss Gangstas: The Parallel Influences, Characteristics And Criticisms Of The Blaxploitation Cinema And Gangsta Rap Movements, Dustin Engels
Baadassss Gangstas: The Parallel Influences, Characteristics And Criticisms Of The Blaxploitation Cinema And Gangsta Rap Movements, Dustin Engels
Journal of Hip Hop Studies
Serving as two of the most visible African American cultural movements, blaxploitation cinema and gangsta rap played essential roles in giving African American artists an outlet to establish a new black identity for mainstream audiences. After exploring the similarities between the cultural and economic conditions that spawned both movements, this essay examines the parallel techniques by which the preeminent entries in both genres established themselves as culturally relevant for African American audiences. These techniques included a reliance on place and space to establish authenticity, as well as employing African American myths and folklore such as the Signifying Monkey and the …

Listen To The Story: Banksy, Tyler The Creator, And The Growing Nihilistic Mindset, Duri Long
Journal of Hip Hop Studies
Art, as an expression of feelings, worldviews, and personal beliefs, is a reflection of our environment and how we interact with it. In this way, urban art such as rap music and graffiti can serve as a lens through which we are able to examine the state of the urban environment. Building on community literature that addresses the presence of nihilism in rap music, this work will establish that nihilism is a prevalent theme in the work of two artists: Tyler the Creator's rap music and BANKSY's graffiti art. By examining the growing subculture and appeal of urban art in …

Investigation Of Mirror Image Bias: Evidence For The Use Of Psychophysiological Measures As Indicators Of Cognitive Heuristics, Caroline R. Salchak
Browse all Theses and Dissertations
The Mirror Imaging Bias (MIB) is gaining attention as a prominent quality factor in analysts' performance. MIB is an irrationality in which analysts perceive and process information through the filter of personal experience. As evidenced by notable historical events, the consequences of this bias can be dramatic. A way to understand MIB in humans is sought. How analysts analyze data, are trained, and interact with biases is explored. An experiment testing for the appearance of MIB was designed and completed. Measures from an eye tracker as well as physiological measures were collected. Results show a significant correlation between pupil diameter …

This study examines the development and implementation of a survey-based instrument assessing the effectiveness of a course redesign initiative focused on student centeredness at a large midwestern university in the United States. Given the scope of the reform initiative under investigation in this study, researchers developed an instrument called the Classroom Experience Questionnaire (CEQ), which was administered to students enrolled in redesigned courses. Early findings demonstrate strong construct validity and internal reliability of the CEQ instrument as well as concurrent validity between the CEQ and observation data gathered in concert with self-report data. The authors conclude that in the absence …
Cognitive Challenges To Resilience Dynamics In Managing Large- Scale Event Response, Barrett S. Caldwell
Cognitive Challenges To Resilience Dynamics In Managing Large- Scale Event Response, Barrett S. Caldwell
School of Industrial Engineering Faculty Publications
In early 2014, a number of large-scale adverse weather events in the United States (and elsewhere) have renewed discussions of event response and resilience. Unlike events caused by human error or malicious intent, adverse natural events can be seen as uncontrolled and unpreventable; the measure of response success is the mitigation of adverse and disastrous effects. However, significant cognitive limitations interfere with human decision makers’ ability to effectively estimate likelihood, magnitude, and effective response of large-scale events in the face of multiple forms of uncertainty and system dependencies. Some authors highlight stability and maintenance of original design capability as …
Experiences Of Informed Learning In The Undergraduate Classroom, Clarence Maybee
Experiences Of Informed Learning In The Undergraduate Classroom, Clarence Maybee
Libraries Faculty and Staff Scholarship and Research
The same thing can be experienced in a variety of ways. For example, think of a time that you and a friend read the same book, but each got something quite different out of it. Essentially you experienced different aspects of the book. Applying this to higher education, we cannot assume that all students are experiencing their coursework in the same way. In fact, a number of studies reveal that this is not the case. Learning occurs when students begin to experience the thing being learned about in a new way. Learning designs that teach undergraduates to use information require …
Exploring The Role Of Disciplinary Knowledge In Engineering When Learning To Design, Nicky S. Wolmarans Ms
Exploring The Role Of Disciplinary Knowledge In Engineering When Learning To Design, Nicky S. Wolmarans Ms
Design Thinking Research Symposium
Three mechanical engineering teams are followed through their capstone design project as they navigate the ambiguous and contradictory requirements of a typical engineering design course. The pedagogy tends to be both weakly classified and weakly framed in terms introduced by Sociologist of Education, Basil Bernstein; leaving the decisions about what knowledge to draw on, in what sequence, and how, to the discretion of the students. The differential success of the three teams is analysed in terms of their use of disciplinary and practical knowledge to make decisions about their design and to produce a prototype. The semantics dimension of Legitimation …
Influence Of Target Population Misspecification On Employee Perceptions At A, Joe Lee Smith
Influence Of Target Population Misspecification On Employee Perceptions At A, Joe Lee Smith
Wayne State University Dissertations
Numerous researchers have conducted qualitative and quantitative studies examining employee perceptions related to changes in their work environment based upon management/top-down (deductive) communication of vision, mission, and envisioned organization goals Hofstede, Neuijen, Daval, Ohayv, & Sanders (1990), but research on the influence of subgroup/identity types on workforce perception is sparse Dutton, Dukerich, & Harquail (1994). Data on subgroup identification with the mission and strategic goals envisioned by management/administration is limited. Also limited is knowledge of the influence they have over their members, which places management at a disadvantage in planning strategic organization objectives Albert & Whetten, (1985). These subgroups have …

Social Status, Opportunity And Repeat Victimization: The Unequal Distribution Of Safety, Zavin Nazaretian
Wayne State University Dissertations
This research examines the relationship between victimization, social status and opportunity. More specifically, the effects of social status and opportunity on repeat victimization are examined. How does social status and opportunity simultaneously effect repeat victimization? This report consists of a secondary data analysis of the 2004 and 2009 Canadian Victimization Survey with a combined sample size of 43,200 people who were interviewed by telephone. Opportunity either partially or completely mediated the effects of social status on repeat victimization; however for certain subsamples neither opportunity nor social status explained repeat victimization. Additionally, the groups whose victimization was not explained by opportunity …
Social Comparison And Information Seeking: College Students' Sexual Health Information Management In The Context Of Online Support Groups, Jehoon Jeon
Wayne State University Dissertations
Considering that information seekers often search and pay attention to others' stories and narratives about their health issues, the purpose of this dissertation is to investigate college students' information seeking process with regards to sexual health information in online support groups. More specifically, this dissertation examines the cognitive procedures related to how active information seekers utilize user-created messages shared in online support groups to manage their uncertainty about sexual health, and how social comparisons to others influence their information management strategies. A web-based experimental survey was conducted. The findings of this dissertation mark a meaningful step toward refining and advancing …

The present study examined bilingual counseling in a localized setting: a high school in southwest Detroit. The study assessed the ways in which bilingual counseling increases effective communication among bilingual students, school personnel, and students' parents/guardians. Participants included a cross-section of educators and support staff who work at a high school in southwest Detroit where the student population is predominately Spanish/English bilingual. Questionnaires were distributed to 81 participants; 59 completed questionnaires were returned. The instrument that was used to collect data was a questionnaire, which consisted of 19 questions. The questions reflected the participants' attitudes with respect to the research …
Marketing Good Taste: Print Agents' Use Of Paratext To Shape Markets And Readers In Early Modern England, Andie Silva
Marketing Good Taste: Print Agents' Use Of Paratext To Shape Markets And Readers In Early Modern England, Andie Silva
Wayne State University Dissertations
This dissertation examines the strategies deployed by print agents (publishers, booksellers, and printers) to create their unique niche in the marketplace. Building on scholarship that discusses how print agents shaped authorship, I argue that paratexts designed by print agents influenced the development of popular taste and even created new genres. Using contemporary marketing theory as an interpretative framework, this project traces the printing history of editions of single works in context with the careers of individual print agents. As my research demonstrates, print agents deliberately manipulated paratexts like title pages and prefaces to advertise printed books as unique investments, capable …

AUGUST 2014
Advisor: Dr. Brady Baybeck
Major: Political Science
Degree: Doctor of Philosophy
While quite a bit has been written about the policymaking roles played by government and business actors, much less attention has been paid to the ways in which the U.S. nonprofit sector contributes to policy outcomes in urban areas. The dominant theory of urban governance, regime theory, has thus far marginalized the policymaking importance of nonprofits in urban areas, arguing that their role has largely been restricted to that of interested observer …

Can Animal Spirits Solve The Forward Premium Puzzle?, Anthony Paul Shkrelja
Wayne State University Dissertations
This dissertation decomposes, discusses, and ventures to solve an international macroeconomic anomaly known as the "Forward Premium Puzzle" into three main chapters. Chapter 1 explores the state of research pertaining to the Forward Premium Puzzle, which derives from a failure in the Uncovered Interest Parity (UIP). The body of literature is split into three branches i. Those works advocating the presence of an anomaly due to assumption of Rational Expectations, ii. Works preserving the assumption of Rational Expectations and instead discuss a bias due to Risk Premia, and iii. Research focused on econometric implementation of the forward premium estimator. Furthermore, …
