Water Scarcity In The Jordan River Basin, Matthew Cook Nov 2014

Water Scarcity In The Jordan River Basin, Matthew Cook

Scholarly Horizons: University of Minnesota, Morris Undergraduate Journal

The watershed of the Jordan River stretches over four countries – Jordan, Syria, Israel, and Lebanon – and includes the region of Palestine. With the land and its resources hotly contested by all parties involved, the dwindling supply of drinking and irrigation water from viable sources has led to scrambling exploitation, leaving the river and its connected lakes in an ever-worsening state of deterioration. Increased suspended solids, presence of toxin-producing cyanobacteria, and accelerated evapotranspiration have led to a slower, shallower, murkier, and lower health quality trickle taking the place of the once-revered River Jordan (Comair et al., “Watershed Delineation” …

The Relationship Between Nursing Excellence And Electronic Health Record Adoption, Christine Lippincott Nov 2014

The Relationship Between Nursing Excellence And Electronic Health Record Adoption, Christine Lippincott

Open Access Dissertations

The United States government has invested over a billion dollars to support the nationwide implementation, adoption, and “meaningful use” (MU) of electronic health record (EHR) technology. The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009 represents just one example of how the delivery of healthcare services is evolving from a fee-for-service to a pay-for-performance model that is data-driven. Preventing Abuse And Addiction With Nonprescription Products, W. Steven Pray, Gabriel E. Pray Nov 2014

Preventing Abuse And Addiction With Nonprescription Products, W. Steven Pray, Gabriel E. Pray

Faculty Articles & Research

The abuse of prescription products is a long-standing problem of great concern to the federal government and individual states. Medications such as tramadol and hydrocodone were shifted to stricter schedules as evidence of their widespread abuse accumulated. However, there is also growing awareness and considerable alarm over the less well-recognized problem of abuse of nonprescription drugs and products.

This issue is perhaps more compelling for two reasons. First, unless states act to control their sale, pharmacologically active nonprescription products can be purchased in any quantity in thousands of nonpharmacy venues, such as gas stations, hotel lobbies, and airport shops. Second, …

Aca Implementation In Kentucky: Experiences Of An Expansion State, Glen P. Mays

Health Management and Policy Presentations

Kentucky's implementation of the Affordable Care Act has included early successes with insurance coverage expansion through Medicaid and a state-operated health insurance exchange. Signals of improvements in health care accessibility and delivery of preventive services are evident in the first year after coverage expansions. Challenges associated with political opposition, delivery system transformation, and public health financing remain on the state's policy agenda.
