Simulation-Based Optimization For Integrated Electric Utility Resource Planning And Deployment, Juan P. Saenz Dec 2013

Simulation-Based Optimization For Integrated Electric Utility Resource Planning And Deployment, Juan P. Saenz

Open Access Dissertations

We have studied integrated electric utility networks in terms of long-term electric utility resource planning, short-term environmental economic load dispatch, and the optimal deployment of distributed generation sources within the electric network. In order to conduct these analyses, the development of a continuous-discrete modular simulation and optimization framework and a particle filtering based multi-objective optimization framework has been done. The continuous-discrete modular simulation includes the integration of discrete decisions and events with continuous processes within the same simulation environment and the modular integration of different resources into the simulation. The multi-objective optimization framework includes the development of a sequential importance …

Differential Actions Of Orexin Receptors In Brainstem Cholinergic And Monoaminergic Neurons Revealed By Receptor Knockouts: Implications For Orexinergic Signaling In Arousal And Narcolepsy, Kristi Kohlmeier, Christopher Tyler, Mike Kalogiannis, Masaru Ishibashi, Iryna Gumenchuk, Masashi Yanagisawa, Christopher S. Leonard

NYMC Faculty Publications

Orexin neuropeptides influence multiple homeostatic functions and play an essential role in the expression of normal sleep-wake behavior. While their two known receptors (OX1 and OX2) are targets for novel pharmacotherapeutics, the actions mediated by each receptor remain largely unexplored. Using brain slices from mice constitutively lacking either receptor, we used whole-cell and Ca(2+) imaging methods to delineate the cellular actions of each receptor within cholinergic [laterodorsal tegmental nucleus (LDT)] and monoaminergic [dorsal raphe (DR) and locus coeruleus (LC)] brainstem nuclei-where orexins promote arousal and suppress REM sleep. In slices from OX(-/-) 2 mice, orexin-A (300 nM) elicited wild-type responses …

Decerbo, Pharmd, Janet Larson, Md, Kristin Mckenna, Md, Lindsey Roke, Pharmd

Pharmacy Presentations, Posters, and Grand Rounds

Purpose: Neonates suffering from NAS receive NMS to treat withdrawal symptoms associated with this disease. Frequent NMS dosing and close monitoring are required to ensure adequate symptom control and prevent adverse events. Maximum dose achieved, titration, severity of disease, and variance in in-utero exposure to addictive drugs all contribute to length of stay. The primary objective of this drug utilization evaluation is to assess adherence to current institutional guidelines for titrating neonates and infants off NMS and to identify opportunities for improvement to potentially decrease length of stay in this population.

Methods: A retrospective chart review of neonates …

Probing Technique For Energy Distribution Of Positive Charges In Gate Dielectrics And Its Application To Lifetime Prediction / Sharifah Fatmadiana Wan Muhamad Hatta, Wan Muhamad Hatta Sharifah Fatmadiana Dec 2013

Probing Technique For Energy Distribution Of Positive Charges In Gate Dielectrics And Its Application To Lifetime Prediction / Sharifah Fatmadiana Wan Muhamad Hatta, Wan Muhamad Hatta Sharifah Fatmadiana

Student Works (2010-2019)

The continuous reduction of the dimensions of CMOS devices has increased the negative bias temperature instability (NBTI) of pMOSFETs to such a level that it is limiting their lifetime. This increase of NBTI is caused mainly by three factors: an increase of nitrogen concentration in gate dielectric, a higher operation electrical field, and a higher temperature. Despite of many years’ research work, there are questions on the correctness of the NBTI lifetime predicted through voltage acceleration and extrapolation. The conventional lifetime prediction technique measures the degradation slowly and it typically takes 10 ms or longer to record one threshold voltage …

Kapitalisme Dalam Kerlingan Negara-Berdaulat: Ulasan Historis Singkat Dari Era Imperium Romawi Agung Sampai Era Neoliberal, Hizkia Yosie Polimpung

Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional

Is State in capitalism, as endlessly muttered by Marxists of all stripes, nothing more than just a committee for managing the common affairs of the whole bourgeoisie? The article rebuts this by presenting a brief evolution of the constitution of Westphalian sovereign state, one that is still reigning up to present day. It tries to distill the logic of sovereignty and shows how the State is actually operate outside the logic of the capitalism. In so doing, the article also discusses the encounter of these two logics in the liberal conceptions of state (esp. Social Democratic & Neoliberalism) along with …

Keberhasilan Semu Deradikalisasi Di Indonesia, Sarie Febriane, Mariamah M

Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional

This paper researches the claim made by the Indonesian government regarding the deradicalization program that it ran to deradicalize militants. The Indonesian government claimed that the deradicalization program had been very successful and effective in countering religious extremism. This paper will examine the effects of the de-radicalisation program and will argue that the program has not been as effective as has been claimed. This paper highlights researches which indicate that the program doesn't have a clear structure and the facts that it has been used by terrorist suspects to leave prison through using rewards received after joining the program and …

Radikalisme Dalam Aksi Pergerakan Lingkungan: Studi Kasus Terhadap Earth Liberation Front (Periode 1996-2011), Annisa Nirbito

Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional

Earth Liberation Front (ELF) is an environmental movement which carries out radical direct actions, making it distinct from the mainstream environmental movements which implements peaceful methods in articulating their voices. Although its radical actions encounter negative responses, ELF still uses direct actions as their main tactic. In this writing, the writer seeks to uncover the reasons behind the use of radical actions by ELF. The writer uses three main concepts to arrive at the answer: civil disobedience, violence, and terrorism by Peter Singer; Gaia hypothesis by James Lovelock; and new radicalism in social movements by David Solnit. Through interviews, qualitative …

Dinamika Kerjasama Keamanan Selandia Baru-Amerika Serikat Sejak Tahun 2000, Darang Sahdana Candra

Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional

New Zealand's security relations with the United States was halted when the former's antinuclear policies during late 1980s caused the US to suspend their security commitments. However, changes in international structure affected the once-broken security relations. Since the beginning of the 21st century, rapprochement in security cooperation has occurred between New Zealand and the US. This article analyzes the underlying causes of the rapprochement through Neoclassical Realism's paradigm and balance of interest theory. Changes in international structure, especially the reemergence of China, as well as New Zealand's domestic politics reactions concerning the said changes, are the factors that shape New …

Kunjungan Presiden Xi Jinping Ke Indonesia Dari Perspektif Media Di Indonesia Dan Tiongkok: Suatu Kajian Pendahuluan, Yeremia Lalisang

Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional

This research note compares the way Chinese and Indonesian newspapers covered the visit of Xi Jinping, the President of the People's Republic of China, to Indonesia at October 2nd - 3rd, 2013. It analyzes news and articles related to the visit appeared in four major newspapers both in China and Indonesia, namely, China Daily, South China Morning Post, KOMPAS, and The Jakarta Post. It finds that, in covering the visit, China Daily, the overseas mouthpiece of Chinese Government, only focused on the positive development of the bilateral relations, the importance to upgrade the economic relations, particularly the bilateral trade, and …
