Preferred Instructional Design Strategies For Preparation Of Pre-Service Teachers Of Integrated Stem Education, Amanda Shackleford Roberts
STEMPS Theses & Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to identify the preferred instructional design strategies for the preparation of pre-service teachers who will deliver integrated STEM lessons. The research objectives were threefold and included identifying a preferred definition of integrated STEM education, developing its purpose statement, and creating a list of instructional design strategies that could be used for designing, planning, delivering, and assessing integrated STEM instruction.
The Delphi method was selected as the optimum approach for data collection, since STEM education is still a growing phenomenon lacking consensus in its interpretations of meaning and practice. Gaining group consensus from expert teacher …
The Response Of Commercial Banks To Credit Stimuli, Denise Williams Streeter
The Response Of Commercial Banks To Credit Stimuli, Denise Williams Streeter
Theses and Dissertations in Business Administration
This dissertation calls upon the theory of financial intermediation (Diamond and Dybvig, 1983) and the credit channel theory of monetary policy effectiveness (Bernanke and Gertler, 1995) to show how commercial banks responded to the trillions of dollars of innovations to stimulate the credit markets during the 2008 global financial crisis. Specifically, loan-level data is used to conduct univariate, regression, and event-study analyses to address the research question of, "Did United States- and European Union-based commercial banks respond to credit stimuli with increased commercial lending during the stimulus period of October 1, 2007 through September 30, 2011 when compared to the …
Experiences Of The Process And Outcomes Of Group Dream Work, Penny Makris
Experiences Of The Process And Outcomes Of Group Dream Work, Penny Makris
Counseling & Human Services Theses & Dissertations
Clients often wish to discuss their dreams in counseling sessions in order to make sense of their waking experiences. Although the efficacy of dream work has been indicated in numerous studies, other studies indicate that a majority of therapists report a lack of knowledge in working with dreams. The purpose of this qualitative heuristic design study was to explore the experiences of individuals participating in dream work groups that use the Ullman method as a foundation for exploring and finding meaning and waking life relevance from dreams. The Ullman method features a series of structured steps in which all group …

Ensemble Forecasting Of Coronal Mass Ejections Using The Wsa-Enlil With Coned Model, D. Emmons, Ariel O. Acebal, A. Pulkkinen, A. Taktakishvili, Peter Macneice, D. Odstrcil
Faculty Publications
The combination of the Wang‐Sheeley‐Arge (WSA) coronal model, ENLIL heliospherical model version 2.7, and CONED Model version 1.3 (WSA‐ENLIL with CONED Model) was employed to form ensemble forecasts for 15 halo coronal mass ejections (halo CMEs). The input parameter distributions were formed from 100 sets of CME cone parameters derived from the CONED Model. The CONED Model used image processing along with the bootstrap approach to automatically calculate cone parameter distributions from SOHO/LASCO imagery based on techniques described by Pulkkinen et al. (2010). The input parameter distributions were used as input to WSA‐ENLIL to calculate the temporal evolution of the …

One of the primary challenges associated with nanoparticle-dependent biological applications is that endosomal entrapment in a physiological environment severely limits the desired targeting and functionality of the nanoconstructs. This study sought to overcome that challenge through a systematic approach of gold nanorod (GNR) functionalization: evaluating the influence of both aspect ratio and surface chemistry on targeted cellular internalization rates and preservation of particle integrity. Owing to their unique spectral properties and enhanced surface area, GNRs possess great potential for the advancement of nanobased delivery and imaging applications. However, their ability for efficient intracellular delivery while maintaining their specific physiochemical parameters …

Investigation Of Nbnx Thin Films And Nanoparticles Grown By Pulsed Laser Deposition And Thermal Diffusion, Ashraf Hassan Farha
Investigation Of Nbnx Thin Films And Nanoparticles Grown By Pulsed Laser Deposition And Thermal Diffusion, Ashraf Hassan Farha
Electrical & Computer Engineering Theses & Dissertations
Niobium nitride films (NbNx) were grown on Nb and Si (100) substrates using pulsed laser deposition (PLD), laser heating, and thermal diffusion methods. Niobium nitride films were deposited on Nb substrates using PLD with a Q-switched Nd: YAG laser (λ = 1064 nm, 40 ns pulse width, and 10 Hz repetition rate) at different laser fluences, different nitrogen background pressures and deposition temperatures. The effect of changing PLD parameters for films done by PLD was studied. The seen observations establish guidelines for adjusting the laser parameters to achieve the desired morphology and phase of the grown NbNx films.

Effect Of Sensory Modality On Performance Workload And Frontal Lobe Oxygenation In A Standard Vigilance Task, Veronica Emily Scerra
Effect Of Sensory Modality On Performance Workload And Frontal Lobe Oxygenation In A Standard Vigilance Task, Veronica Emily Scerra
Psychology Theses & Dissertations
Performance, subjective workload, and frontal lobe oxygenation measures were collected from observers monitoring visual, auditory, or vibrotactile signals. Critical signals for detection in each sensory modality were stimuli of reduced duration, which were equated for perceptual salience and discriminability. Perceptual sensitivity to targets and the percentage of correct detections declined significantly over time for all sensory modalities, with significantly greater performance decrements for the visual modality than for the auditory and tactile modalities. Frontal lobe oxygenation, as recorded by functional near infrared spectroscopy 0NIR), increased over time in task conditions as compared to a control (no work imperative) condition, but …
Excess Valency As An Intrinsic Scale Of Lewis Basicity, Joseph J. Rosmus
Excess Valency As An Intrinsic Scale Of Lewis Basicity, Joseph J. Rosmus
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The Lewis definition of basicity has no single reference to establish a universal order of base strength. To explore valency as an gauge of Lewis basicity, quantum mechanical calculations have been performed using the meta-hybrid density functional M06-2X with Dunning style basis sets. The electronic and thermodynamic properties of 132 isolated Lewis bases and 28 boroamine adducts have been computed. Natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis was conducted to calculate the valence population and to define the excess valency, EV, as a scale of Lewis basicity. A final equation of EV=-1.07(χ ̅_sub-χ_donor )+0.74(r ̅_sub-r_donor) results in a correlation of 0.87 for …

Character, Time, And Place In The Dialogues Of Plato, John H. Fritz
Character, Time, And Place In The Dialogues Of Plato, John H. Fritz
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation investigates Plato's use of character, time, and place in his dialogues. After an introduction where it is argued that all dialogues represented as spoken rely in some fashion on the three formal elements listed above, Plato's use of characters is taken up in detail in Chapter One. The Symposium, Republic, and Cratylus are analyzed to come to an understanding of how characters relate to what they do and say. Next, the phenomenon of displacement is taken up in a number of dialogues, in particular the Hippias Major. This strange and frequent occurrence in the dialogues is eventually related …
