The purpose of this thesis project is to create both a traditional and digital portfolio, with the intention of showcasing myself as a theatre artist. It cohesively compiles, organizes, and displays the theatre design and technical skills I have acquired during my four years as a student in Western Michigan University's Department of Theatre. It contains a variety of work, including in-class exploratory projects as well as realized productions, in both digital and traditional mediums. Projects range from scenic painting to hand rendering to 3D modeling and visualization to advanced programming.

In recent years, art made in Africa, particularly in the metropolitan context, has witnessed a substantial increase in attention coming from transnational institutions. While many researchers have pointed out the deceitful nature of contemporary art’s globalization, this turn of events still challenges the way we conceive the space of contemporary art. In this paper I use cartography as a critical tool to approach the international mobility facilitated by two art organizations based in Nairobi, Kenya.

In this article we focus upon the spatiality of the artistic circle Les XX, in Belgium and in Europe. We study the installation of the circle’s members in both Brussels and the context of the city’s local artistic geography. One zone seems to have been a focus of the group’s creative and social life: the suburb of Ixelles, in particular, the neighborhood around the rue de l’Abbaye. This visualization project originated in a program entitled “Art Markets in Europe 1300-1800, Emergence, Development, Networks.” The latter focused mainly on the movement and dynamics of the art markets of the early modern age: Who were the agents of this mobility? What were its mechanisms? What idea do we have of the numbers of pictures circulating in Europe? Through what channels and networks were they distributed? “The Birth” Returns To Charlotte Stage For Eighth Consecutive Year, Office Of University Communications

The unconventional nativity drama “The Birth,” developed by Gardner-Webb alumnus Nathan Rouse (’02), returns to Uptown Charlotte for its eighth Christmas season on the Charlotte stage. The 2013 season opens on Dec. 12 and runs through Dec. 21 at the Duke Energy Theater, part of Charlotte’s Spirit Square. The season also features a special “Celebration Night” on Dec. 21, during which guests will enjoy a performance of the show at 8 p.m., followed immediately by a talk-back with the cast and a special concert.

Interactive Interpretive Ballet, Amara Chekwa

Theses

My thesis exposes users to interpretive ballet, using many aspects of computer graphics design, including 3D animation, interaction and graphical user interface design. The interactive work consists of dragging and dropping pre-rendered animated ballet moves to create a sequenced dance performance. The target audience is young girls, ages 7-13, who are interested in interpretive dance and/or ballet. As ballet consists of precise movement, my animation focuses more on interpretive dance movements that imply ballet, rather than mimic the actual precision of ballet moves. Shortly after Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol was released in 1843, a tradition of adaptation began which has continued seemingly unabated to the present day. Consequently, the tale has become so widely known that one is arguably as likely to have first encountered the iconic miser Scrooge through any number of audio-visual adaptations as through the original work itself. Significant critical attention has been paid to the nature of Scrooge's drastic change from miser to philanthropist.
