Integrating Site-Specific Environmental Graphic Design Within An Urban Context, Sanjyot Wagle Mar 2013

Integrating Site-Specific Environmental Graphic Design Within An Urban Context, Sanjyot Wagle

Theses

In the daily negotiation of city living there may also be opportunities for educating residents about meaningful community-related topics. Graphic design can play a key role in addressing these goals. Environmental graphic design and wayfinding can help make urban experiences easier and more interesting. Errors And Accuracy In Student Media: Identifying, Avoiding, And Correcting Common Reporting Errors, Sarah Gilmore

Journalism

Sexual Dimorphism And Behavioral Responses To Conspecific Chemical Cues In Pagurus Samuelis, Maria Kim

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

Anatomical differences were observed between sexes of P. samuelis. We measured the major cheliped and carapace lengths of hermit crabs caught off the coast of Southern California and found that male chelipeds were significantly larger relative to their carapace length than female chelipeds. Average male cheliped:carapace ratios were 1.86 while average female cheliped:carapace ratios were 1.32. We predicted that males and females would respond differently to cue waters created from their own sex. Females were exposed to female cue treatment odors and males were exposed to male cue treatment odors. We recorded hermit crabs exposed to cue treatment waters and …

Landscape, History And The Media: An Introduction, Christina E. Dando Feb 2013

Landscape, History And The Media: An Introduction, Christina E. Dando

Geography and Geology Faculty Publications

Writing from Nebraska’s eastern edge, my mind’s eye drawn to the Platte River (west and south of me), I consider landscape, history, and the media. The Oto called the river “Nebraskier” which means flat or shallow, giving us the name of the state.1 Early accounts describe the Platte as “a mile wide and an inch deep” and “too thick to drink, too thin to plow”; Washington Irving described it as “the most magnificent and useless of rivers” (Allin 1982, 1). But to dismiss this river is to judge too quickly. As the river gains momentum, growing in size, it is …
