Private Civil Remedies: A Viable Tool For Guest Worker Empowerment, Jennifer J. Lee
Private Civil Remedies: A Viable Tool For Guest Worker Empowerment, Jennifer J. Lee
Loyola of Los Angeles Law Review
Despite the well-known abuses of guest workers, the government has failed to curb them. Guest workers with H-2A and H-2B visas face appalling job conditions, including the confiscation of documents, wage and hour abuses, on-the-job injuries without treatment, unhealthy housing conditions, and verbal and physical abuse. Although multiple government agencies have failed to address the exploitation of guest workers, the government has authorized these workers to invoke private civil remedies. These remedies can become a means by which disadvantaged immigrant workers seek redress for their egregious exploitation, particularly given how severely disadvantaged such workers are in the political arena.

Bibliography of Research Using UMLS Alumni Survey Data
For forty years beginning in the late 1960s, the University of Michigan Law School conducted annual surveys of its alumni. The project included fifty successive graduating classes, with all but the most recent classes surveyed more than once. Over thirteen thousand alumni participated. Over the forty years, American legal education and the American legal profession underwent huge changes. When the study began, there were almost no women or minority students at Michigan and very few in the country as a whole. The vast majority of all students and lawyers were white and male. By the end, white men constituted far …
Lawyering For Groups: The Case Of American Indian Tribal Attorneys, Kristen A. Carpenter, Eli Wald
Lawyering For Groups: The Case Of American Indian Tribal Attorneys, Kristen A. Carpenter, Eli Wald
Fordham Law Review
Lawyering for groups, broadly defined as the legal representation of a client who is not an individual, is a significant and booming phenomenon. Encompassing the representation of governments, corporations, institutions, peoples, classes, communities, and causes, lawyering for groups is what many, if not most, lawyers do. And yet, the dominant theory of law practice—the Standard Conception, with its principles of zealous advocacy, nonaccountability, and professional role-based morality—and the rules of professional conduct that codify it, continue to be premised on the basic antiquated assumption that the paradigmatic client-attorney relationship is between an individual client and an individual attorney. The result …

The Impact Of Rankings And Rules On Legal Education Reform, David Yellen
Articles
Legal education is experiencing intense pressures and is undergoing profound changes. Two important forces that help shape and limit the nature and scope of legal education reform are the U.S. News & World Report rankings and the American Bar Association's accreditation standards. The push and pull of these forces helps explain why law schools are embracing some changes and resisting others

Professional First Ladies In The Media: Framing Of Clinton, Bush, And Obama In The Washington Post, Jazmyne E. Butler
Honors Theses
This study examines how the news media portray and frame modern first ladies. By prefacing the research with background information about the history of the role of first ladies, and media theories such as framing, the reader is able to better understand the implications of this coverage. Other previous research delved into gender roles and how deviation from these roles is subject to criticism. The goal of the research is to examine the first 100 days of a presidency to determine if a first lady who steps out of bounds with the traditional societal female gender role is subject to …
