Analysis Of Microsatellites From Sclerocactus Glaucus And Sclerocactus Parviflorus To Assess Hybridization Levels And Genetic Diversity, Anna Louise Schwabe
Master's Theses
Sclerocactus glaucus is an endemic Colorado species that is federally threatened under the Endangered Species Act. Sclerocactus glaucus is losing habitat due to disturbance by oil and gas exploration, urbanization, open range cattle grazing and recreational land use. Due to the low number of wild populations, conservationists question the genetic integrity of the species. Field biologists have observed S. glaucus populations with individuals possessing morphological characteristics of the closely related and widely distributed Sclerocactus parviflorus. Individuals from 28 populations of S. glaucus, 9 populations of S. parviflorus, and 1 population of S. cloveriae were sampled. Microsatellite analysis using 13 variable …

How can one develop a strong ensemble? What is the role of the media in society’s perception of beauty? How can a successful production with rehearsal limitations be produced? What is it about this material that will keep the actors and …
Pumilio Proteins Regulate Translation In Embryonic Stem Cells And Are Essential For Early Embryonic Development, Katherine Elizabeth Uyhazi
Pumilio Proteins Regulate Translation In Embryonic Stem Cells And Are Essential For Early Embryonic Development, Katherine Elizabeth Uyhazi
Yale Medicine Thesis Digital Library
Embryonic stem (ES) cells are defined by their dual abilities to self-renew and to differentiate into any cell type in the body. This vast potential is precisely controlled by spatial and temporal gene regulation at transcriptional, post-transcriptional, and epigenetic levels. Recent studies have revealed several transcription factors that are essential for stem cell self-renewal and pluripotency, but the role of translational control in ES cells is poorly understood. Translational control is a fundamental mechanism of gene regulation during early development, and likely explains the discrepancies between the transcriptome and proteome profiles of stem cells and their differentiated progeny. Pumilio proteins …

Differentiating Lymphovascular Invasion From Retraction Artifact On Histological Specimen Of Breast Carcinoma And Their Implications On Prognosis., Nicholas George Zaorsky, Ninad Patil, Gary Mitchel Freedman, Madalina Tuluc
Department of Radiation Oncology Faculty Papers
On a pathological specimen of breast cancer cells, retraction artifact during histological processing mimics true lymphovascular invasion (LVI). The accurate determination of the presence or absence of LVI is a factor in determining risk of having a positive sentinel node, or having additional positive axillary nodes after a positive sentinel node biopsy in women with early-stage breast cancer. The determination of nodal risk influences the decision of the treating physicians as to whether a sentinel node biopsy or completion axillary dissection is necessary. On slide preparation, ideal factors favoring true LVI include: a definite endothelial lining, with endothelial nuclei that …

In lieu of an abstract, below is the essay's first paragraph.
"My last years in the seminary (1959-1960) were to be academically uneventful until the faculty and students read the startling announcement: Pope John XXIII Summons an Ecumenical Council. Ninety years had passed since the last Council and Vatican Council I was the first in over 300 years. Although we had to go to our textbooks to find out about the workings of a Council, the students, at least, were excited about the possibilities. In this brief reflection I want to share some of my memories of Vatican Council II …

In lieu of an abstract, below is the essay's first paragraph.
"The word love comes from the Old English lufu, which is similar to the Old High German luba meaning to love which comes from the Old English lēof meaning dear, and the Latin lubēre meaning to please. So to love someone is to be pleased by and have the desire to please someone held dear to you. But what is love in the Christian sense of the word? Aside from speaking to God directly, the Bible is a good place to start, specifically the New Testament."
