Launch And Landing Infrastructure On The Moon, Robert P. Mueller, Phillip T. Metzger, Wayne G. Finger, Steve W. Moore
Launch And Landing Infrastructure On The Moon, Robert P. Mueller, Phillip T. Metzger, Wayne G. Finger, Steve W. Moore
Space Congress® Proceedings
To explore the solar system effectively, we need to develop outposts on the Moon, Mars, and other surfaces so that we can make use of their in situ resources, stage equipment for further exploration, and perform more in-depth scientific investigations in those chosen locales. This strategy will differ from our previous sortie missions to the Moon in that it will require engineers to develop infrastructure on planetary surfaces and thus export features of human civilization into space. One example of the need for engineering is the development of launch and landing pads on the Moon. Without these pads, the high …

Project Oasis: A Network Of Spaceports, Robert P. Mueller, Tracy Gill, Jeffrey Brink, Wiley Larson
Space Congress® Proceedings
Providing routine, affordable access to a variety of orbital and deep space destinations requires an intricate network of ground, planetary surface and space-based spaceports across the Earth (land and sea), in various Earth orbits, and on other extra-terrestrial surfaces. Advancements in technology and international collaboration are necessary to enable such a spaceport network to satisfy private and government customers’ research, exploration, and commercial objectives. Technologies, interfaces, assembly techniques, and protocols must be adapted to enable critical capabilities and interoperability throughout the spaceport network. The conceptual space mission architecture must address the full range of required spaceport services, such as managing …
Reliability, Maintainability, And Availability –Consideration During The Design Phase In Ground Systems To Ensure Successful Launch Support, Amanda Gillespie
Reliability, Maintainability, And Availability –Consideration During The Design Phase In Ground Systems To Ensure Successful Launch Support, Amanda Gillespie
Space Congress® Proceedings
The future of Space Exploration includes missions to the moon, asteroids, Mars, and beyond. To get there, the mission concept is to launch multiple launch vehicles months, even years apart. In order to achieve this, launch vehicles, payloads (satellites and crew capsules), and ground systems must be highly reliable and/or available, to include maintenance concepts and procedures in the event of a launch scrub.
In order to achieve this high probability of mission success, Ground Systems Development and Operations (GSDO) has allocated Reliability, Maintainability, and Availability (RMA) requirements to all hardware and software required for both launch success and, in …
Multi-Use Facilities - Repurposing Facilities Infrastructure To Support The Multi-Customer Environment, Dave Hertzler, Alan T. Deluna
Multi-Use Facilities - Repurposing Facilities Infrastructure To Support The Multi-Customer Environment, Dave Hertzler, Alan T. Deluna
Space Congress® Proceedings
Since the early 90’s the space launch business has undergone significant change in customers, composition, capacity, and key players. These changes have a resultant effect upon the spaceport industry. Some spaceports, in their current state, may not survive the probable future market and business environment. To stay in the game, spaceports are reexamining their target launch vehicles, services, and operations philosophy. One of the strategies being developed to accommodate current and future changes is to repurpose facilities to support multiple customers. The new vision is that multiple commercial, as well as government entities, having multiple spacecraft and launch vehicle configurations …

Explorations – The Journal of Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creativity at Wright State
The subject of regionalism and metropolitan government is one that has increasingly been addressed following the latest economic downturn and subsequent cuts in government funding. In today’s globalizing world, metropolitan regions across the United States have sought to not only attract new companies and jobs, but also to retain the companies and jobs they already have. It has become a struggle for some cities to hold on to businesses, whether they are relocating to another region altogether or even to a nearby suburban municipality. When it comes to economic development, competition is fierce between cities and regions. It is now …

Treatment Of A Ring With Periodic Atomic Placement Through Differential Geometry, Gregory Karjala, Lok Lew Yan Voon
Explorations – The Journal of Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creativity at Wright State
Most treatments of Bloch’s Theorem have relied on group theory or other mathematical methods for its proof. In this paper we give a derivation of the quantum number first proposed by Y.C Lee and Wei Z. Lee for the Benzene ring through the use of differential geometry. We also develop a Bloch style relationship relation for the benzene ring with an additional quantum number. Through this treatment we show the usefulness of differential geometry in the theorist’s toolkit when it comes to solid-state problems.

Storie Of The Past: Learning The Legacy Of Emmet Gowin, Megan Hague, Tracy Longley-Cook
Explorations – The Journal of Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creativity at Wright State
The process of producing a documentary film about the legacy of Emmet Gowin is much like the process, I imagine, of researching and discovering the biographical history of a prominent figure in art. Unlike most documentary films I have made, which largely focus on what is happening presently in the lives of the individuals I am documenting, the Emmet Gowin project has been one fueled by memories of the past. This nostalgic process of reminiscing has created a very unique and unfamiliar opportunity in documentary filmmaking for me, the approach being greatly dependent on stories of the past which in …

Big Shrimpin': Changing Bio-Economic Conditions, Vessel Responses, And Financial Outcomes In The Federal Gulf Of Mexico Shrimp Finshery; A 2006 Through 2009 Comparison Of Annual Vessel-Level Data, Robert C. Jones
Open Access Theses
An understanding of how federally-permitted Gulf shrimp vessels have responded to changes in three major bio-economic conditions—shrimp prices, fuel prices, and shrimp abundance—is poorly understood. This research uses three National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) self-reported datasets in order to develop an economic profile of a sample of active vessels in the federal fishery from 2006 to 2009. A financial accounting framework is used to generate vessel-level averages for these vessels. An index of bio-economic conditions (BECI) is developed to summarize and quantify the major exogenous impacts on the fishery. New results on fishing effort, labor and efficiency are generated, and …

The group state of 10He was populated using a 2p2n-removal from a 59 MeV/u 14Be beam. The decay energy of the three body system, 8He + n + n, was measured and a resonance was observed at E = 1.60(25) MeV with a 1.8(4) MeV width. This result is in agreement with previous invariant mass spectroscopy measurements, using the 11Li(-p) reaction, but is consistent with recent transfer reaction results. The proposed explanation that the difference, about 500 keV, is due to the effect of the extended halo nature of 11Li in the one-proton knockout reaction is …
