Predictors Of Student's Attitudes Toward Science Literacy, Irina I. Holden
Predictors Of Student's Attitudes Toward Science Literacy, Irina I. Holden
Communications in Information Literacy
Being information and science literate are crucial in an age when scientific developments influence the political arena and vice versa. In order to become active and responsible citizens, students must understand such issues as global warming and stem cell research. Furthermore, they must be lifelong learners, capable of researching and educating themselves about new scientific developments. These are some of the complex issues that information literacy educators must address. This article reports on the results of a survey of student's attitudes towards science literacy and lifelong learning, and on variables associated with their attitudes. Most of the students' attitudes were …

Do Exclusionary Rules Convict The Innocent?, Dhammika Dharmapala, Nuno Garoupa, Richard H. Mcadams
Coase-Sandor Institute for Law & Economics Research Paper Series
Rules excluding various kinds of evidence from criminal trials play a prominent role in criminal procedure, and have generated considerable controversy. In this paper, we address the general topic of excluding factually relevant evidence, that is, the kind of evidence that would rationally influence the jury's verdict if it were admitted. We do not offer a comprehensive analysis of these exclusionary rules, but add to the existing literature by identifying a new domain for economic analysis, focusing on how juries respond to the existence of such a rule. We show that the impact of exclusionary rules on the likelihood of …

The Journal of Values-Based Leadership
The Interface model has become the paradigm of sustainable manufacturing in a world where there is dwindling disagreement as to the debilitating effects of expanding landfills and increasing CO2 emissions, all of which adversely affect ecosystems and human health. In Mid-Course Correction, CEO Anderson examines the troubled past of Interface and its firm commitment to righting these wrongs while examining ways to actually begin a restorative process.

The (In)Admissibility Of False Confession Expert Testimony, David A. Perez
The (In)Admissibility Of False Confession Expert Testimony, David A. Perez
Touro Law Review
This Comment discusses the relationship between police interrogation tactics and false confessions in order to address the admissibility of false confession expert testimony, a question that has traditionally been left to the discretion of the trial judge. The current literature-indeed, the prevailing consensus-argues for drastic changes to police interrogation practices to prevent false confessions and, in combination with such changes, demands that expert testimony on false confessions be admitted in criminal trials. Despite the relative unanimity in the literature, state and federal courts remain bitterly divided on the question of admissibility of false confession expert testimony. Each decision in this …

Cultivating Reform: Richard Nixon's Illicit Substance Control Legacy, Medical Marijuana Social Movement Organizations, And Venue Shopping, Jason Scott Plume
Cultivating Reform: Richard Nixon's Illicit Substance Control Legacy, Medical Marijuana Social Movement Organizations, And Venue Shopping, Jason Scott Plume
Political Science - Dissertations
Over the course of the last two decades, organizations representing the medical marijuana social movement have campaigned for, proposed state level legislation, and supported numerous legal arguments that challenge and attempt to reform U.S. federal illicit substance policies. This set of social regulatory policies, commonly known as the Controlled Substance Act of 1970 (CSA), were drafted, promoted, and implemented by the Nixon Administration then subsequently entrenched by multiple presidents with acquiescent congresses adopting supplemental supply-side resource allocating legislation. My dissertation research uncoils the convoluted history and institutional dynamics of path dependent U.S. illegal drug control policies to answer the question …
Corporal Punishment And Aggression In Adulthood: A Product Of Social Learning, Derek R. Schneider
Corporal Punishment And Aggression In Adulthood: A Product Of Social Learning, Derek R. Schneider
Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)
The focus of my study will be on the relationship between child abuse and aggression in adulthood. Individuals who support corporal punishment are more likely to support using violence against other adults, as compared to those that do not support corporal punishment. In other words, adults that are likely to use violence to resolve conflict with children are more inclined to use violence to resolve conflicts with other adults. Bandura (1977) explained that human behavior is learned observationally through modeling. The idea of modeling involves observing others and beginning to form an idea of how new behaviors are performed; on …
Fetal Attraction: A Descriptive Study Of Patterns In Fetal Abductions, Kerry E. Arquette
Fetal Attraction: A Descriptive Study Of Patterns In Fetal Abductions, Kerry E. Arquette
Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)
Fetal abduction is a crime in which a perpetrator forcibly takes an unborn baby from the womb of another woman. The act is always done without the permission of the pregnant woman, is always violent, and is often deadly for the mother or baby, or both. Based upon available data, the crime of fetal abduction is rare and relatively new, but publicized incidences in the United States of America are growing, which raises the question, "Why?" In order to answer that and other questions surrounding fetal abduction it is necessary to know more about the crime and the criminals. This …
