Construction Partnering: Can These Protocols Build A Stronger Labor-Management Community?, Jim Stott, Juan Carlos Gonzalez

Pepperdine Dispute Resolution Law Journal

In an expansive marketplace where large organizations in the construction, manufacturing, service and union industries are facing increased global competition, collaborative labor relations are essential to maximizing efficiency and productivity. It is for this reason that developing collaboration between labor and management is highly researched and consulted by academics and professionals throughout the world. Although various models of collaboration have been developed, none have been found to clearly overcome that insidious conflict and paradigm of "Labor vs. Management." The purpose of this paper is to provide academics and consultants (mediators/facilitators) an additional perspective for designing, developing and implementing the best …

Concurrent Validation Of Alaska's Juvenile Justice Suicide Risk Screening Measure, Jaymes Gonzales

Psychology

Incarcerated youth face elevated rates of mental health problems and are at greater risk for suicide. The Alaska Division of Juvenile Justice (AKDJJ) uses the Mental Health/Suicide Screening (MHSS) measure to screen incoming youth for mental health problems and current suicide risk. This research examined the concurrent validity of the MHSS, exploring the relationships of the MHSS with the Beck Depression Inventory 2nd Edition (BDI-II; Beck, Steer, & Brown, 1996) and a measure of current suicidal ideation, the Positive and Negative Suicidal Ideation Inventory (PANSI; Osman, Guiterrez, Kopper, Barrios, & Chiros, 1998b). Statistically significant correlations were found between the MHSS, …

Two Viable Ways For The U.S. To Raise Revenues: A Discussion Of A National Lottery In The U.S. And Advertising On Dot-Gov Websites, Lisa R. Nelson

Honors Theses

This paper was written to inform the reader of two viable options for the United States government to raise money that is not an explicit tax. The paper will investigate opportunities to raise revenue to decrease federal debt and fund programs that are currently being funded by tax revenue. The first idea in part one is a national lottery that the federal government could implement. I discuss the possible positive and negative outcomes of a national lottery and use the UK national lottery as an example. Part two will explore allowing the sale of advertising space on dot-gov websites. It …

A Communication Strategy To Address Health Inequities In Municipal Settings, Christine Unson, Ben Tyson, Angela Funaiole, Comfort Agaba

Journal of Health Disparities Research and Practice

This study assessed knowledge of health inequities, importance and benefits/barriers of addressing inequities, and ways of communicating information about inequities among municipal officials. Five focus groups (N=47) were conducted with officials from economic development, land use and housing, public safety, education, and environment departments. Discussions were recorded, transcribed and analyzed for key themes. Findings show that participants had an uneven understanding of the symptoms and causes of health inequities and identified limitations to participating in health equity initiatives and collaborating with local health departments. Recommendations are that a communication strategy to reduce health inequities should aim to increase awareness of …

Global Outsourcing Of Aircraft Maintenance, Michael Mcfadden, D. Scott Worrells Apr 2012

Global Outsourcing Of Aircraft Maintenance, Michael Mcfadden, D. Scott Worrells

Journal of Aviation Technology and Engineering

Before the airlines were deregulated, the majority of air carriers conducted their maintenance in-house. After deregulation, with competitive pressures mounting and airlines failing and starting up seemingly simultaneously, the outsourcing of maintenance became more prevalent. Not restricted to U.S. airlines, outsourcing maintenance has become a global practice. Factors involved in the outsourcing decision range from a startup not having the capital to develop their own in-house maintenance program, to legacy carrier’s cost cutting efforts, and all points in between. This paper will address specific aspects of the global outsourcing of aircraft maintenance. For the purposes of this paper, Maintenance, Repair, …
