Measuring Employability Among College Students: A Validity Study, Megan Rodgers
Measuring Employability Among College Students: A Validity Study, Megan Rodgers
Masters Theses, 2010-2019
The practice of assessment in higher education is often focused on measuring outcomes of student success. However, the potential for a student to obtain a job (i.e., their employability) after graduation is often not directly measured. This reality is unfortunate given the competitive job market and rising cost of an education. One scale, the Employability Skills Inventory (ESI) has been identified as a potential assessment instrument that purports to measure skills necessary for employment in most occupations. Hispanic Outreach In Bowling Green, Ky: Defining The Needs Of The Hispanic Community, Caitlin Reyes
Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
It is certain that Hispanics in Bowling Green confront numerous obstacles, such as a language barrier and a lack of knowledge of available community services that prohibits them from fully integrating into our community. The goal of this research is to gain a better understanding of these obstacles, to determine the perceptions of the city’s Latino population, and to ascertain what businesses, services, and community organizations can do in order to better accommodate Hispanics in Bowling Green. This research analyzes the results of a needs assessment survey administered to 80 self-identified Hispanic members of local churches. The survey responses indicated …

A Profession, If You Can Keep It: How Information Technology And Fading Borders Are Reshaping The Law Marketplace And What We Should Do About It, Stephen Gillers
A Profession, If You Can Keep It: How Information Technology And Fading Borders Are Reshaping The Law Marketplace And What We Should Do About It, Stephen Gillers
UC Law Journal
Technology is changing the way we do business. It has made cross-border trade in goods and services easy. Capital is finding ways to profit from the law business. Lawyers strive to serve clients wherever they need help, including outside their jurisdiction of admission. These changes not only affect how American law firms work, they challenge our system for licensing and regulating lawyers. The traditional geocentric model for regulating the bar, based on physical place of practice, is unstable today because lawyers can practice physically in many places and (virtually) in every place, yet no place in particular. The next twenty …

Life Lines: Stem Cell Research In A Globalized World, Brooke Mackenzie Ellison
Stony Brook Theses and Dissertations Collection, 2006-2020 (closed to submissions)
Matters of science traditionally have been looked at from two sociological perspectives. The Sociology of Scientific Knowledge (SSK) argues that science is similar to other socially constructed phenomena, and is a product of context. From this perspective, science and culture have an inextricable relationship. World Polity Theory (WPT), on the other hand, makes the argument that science is a rationalistic entity that exists outside of cultural forces, and brings societies from backward thinking to modern thinking. Taken together, WPT and SSK have explained many of the sociological features of scientific development, sometimes explaining different aspects of the same phenomenon. However, …

Report Of The Court Processes Simplification Working Group, Action Committee On Access To Justice In Civil And Family Matters
Canadian Forum on Civil Justice
The public court process is of vital importance to Canada. It plays a central role in how citizens govern themselves and regulate their rights and relationships in modern democracies. For the system to be effective, it must operate in a way that is just, efficient and proportionate to the needs and resources of the citizens it is designed to serve. Further, the system must be accessible.
