Research Brief: "Risk And Resilience In Military Families Experiencing Deployment: The Role Of The Family Attachment Network", Institute For Veterans And Military Families At Syracuse University
Institute for Veterans and Military Families
This brief details the military families attachment network model to demonstrate how family relationships are impacted during deployment and reintegration. The model shows that returning veterans face concerns with intimate relationships, which often result in poor communication, intimacy problems, domestic violence and other issues. The authors of this article address specific needs within attachment relationships among military families. These families would benefit from increased federal funding for research that examines adult attachment styles and parent-child attachment relationships in military families. Further research should also include the experiences of single parents who are deployed.

Preventing and managing sports injuries is all in a day’s work for Stephenie Stark. As an athletic trainer for Gardner-Webb’s cross country, track and field, and women’s basketball programs, she thought she’d seen it all. But when a personal health crisis threatened her life last spring, she knew some things were going to change.

The Information-Theoretic Costs Of Simulating Quantum Measurements, Mark M. Wilde, Patrick Hayden, Francesco Buscemi, Min Hsiu Hsieh
Faculty Publications
Winters measurement compression theorem stands as one of the most penetrating insights of quantum information theory. In addition to making an original and profound statement about measurement in quantum theory, it also underlies several other general protocols used for entanglement distillation and local purity distillation. The theorem provides for an asymptotic decomposition of any quantum measurement into noise and information. This decomposition leads to an optimal protocol for having a sender simulate many independent instances of a quantum measurement and send the measurement outcomes to a receiver, using as little communication as possible. The protocol assumes that the parties have …

Fib/Sem-Based Calculation Of Tortuosity In A Porous Licoo2 Cathode For A Li-Ion Battery, T. Hutzenlaub, A. Asthana, J. Becker, D. R. Wheeler, R. Zengerle, S. Thiele
Faculty Publications
We present a new method to quantify tortuosity in the porous, LiCoO2 cathode of a Li-ion battery. The starting point is a previously published 3D reconstruction from FIB/SEM images with three phases, the active material domain, carbon-binder domain and pore space. Based on this geometrical configuration, we compute effective diffusivities, from which we in turn derive tortuosity values for the pore space ranging between 5 and 11.6 for the three spatial directions. In a next step, we compare our approach to an imaging method that employs back-filling material. These methods do not differentiate between the carbon-binder domain and the pore …

Nonprofit Funding Agencies’ Review Of Grant Recipients, Siobain Mcilvain
Nonprofit Funding Agencies’ Review Of Grant Recipients, Siobain Mcilvain
Honors Theses - Providence Campus
Nonprofits need to be just as responsible as public corporations. Nonprofit funding agencies have the responsibility for evaluating the organizations they fund to make sure that they are operating with high integrity, maintaining strong internal controls, remaining financially stable, and overall being good stewards of the funds received. This paper will explain the criteria that a funding agency should follow in order to affect this process, as well as how a recipient nonprofit will benefit from following the criteria.
Variation In Patterns Of Metal Accumulation In Thallus Parts Of Lessonia Trabeculata (Laminariales; Phaeophyceae): Implications For Biomonitoring, Ca Sáez, Mg Lobos, Ec Macaya, Et Al
Variation In Patterns Of Metal Accumulation In Thallus Parts Of Lessonia Trabeculata (Laminariales; Phaeophyceae): Implications For Biomonitoring, Ca Sáez, Mg Lobos, Ec Macaya, Et Al
School of Biological and Marine Sciences
Seaweeds are well known to concentrate metals from seawater and have been employed as monitors of metal pollution in coastal waters and estuaries. However, research showing that various intrinsic and extrinsic factors can influence metal accumulation, raises doubts about the basis for using seaweeds in biomonitoring programmes. The thallus of brown seaweeds of the order Laminariales (kelps) is morphologically complex but there is limited information about the variation in metal accumulation between the different parts, which might result in erroneous conclusions being drawn if not accounted for in the biomonitoring protocol. To assess patterns of individual metals in the differentiated …

An Investigation Of The Attitudes Of School Leaders Toward The Inclusion Of Students With Disabilities In The General Education Setting, Karen Felicia Ball
An Investigation Of The Attitudes Of School Leaders Toward The Inclusion Of Students With Disabilities In The General Education Setting, Karen Felicia Ball
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
Public laws mandating access to free appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment have been in place for decades. Yet, many students with disabilities are still educated in segregated environments that fail to provide them with quality learning opportunities and supports. Inclusive practices have been implemented in many schools. However, the extent to which these practices meet the intent of the law depends on characteristics of the school leader. The purpose of this study was to examine the attitudes and perceptions of school leaders in a Southeast United States public school district relative to inclusion of students with disabilities …
The Solo Cello Music Of Kamran Ince, Ozge Ileri
The Solo Cello Music Of Kamran Ince, Ozge Ileri
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
The Turkish-Americal composer Kamran Ince (born 1960) has written two works for solo cello, Tracing for cello and piano (1994) and the MKG Variations for cello alone (1998). This document discusses both and attempts to place them in the context of Ince's oeuvre and of the cello literature of the late twentieth century. The research is based in part on interviews with the composer and the cellists who have performed and commissioned the pieces, and in part on analysis of the scores. The analysis of the two works reveals a composer interested in Turkish and western modal structures, in pointillist vertical …
