Micro-Extrusion Process Parameter Modeling, Anuj Datar
Micro-Extrusion Process Parameter Modeling, Anuj Datar
Theses
Direct write processes are a family of technologies with the ability to deposit functional structures directly onto planar and non-planar surfaces. Direct writing includes a variety of processes that use different mechanisms to transfer materials on to substrates and can be generally distinguished from conventional rapid prototyping processes by a feature resolution in the sub-micron to micron range. The dispensing system studied in this thesis is a pneumatically actuated micro-extruder which is capable of processing a wide variety of materials. This material dispensing tool is capable of depositing small amounts of material to build three dimensional structures in an accurate …

Aerosol Jet Deposition Of Samarium-Doped Ceria Films, Niranjan Damle
Theses
Direct write processes include a range of additive manufacturing technologies. These technologies are employed to fabricate structures by depositing layer upon layer of functional material. The feature resolutions obtained are often in the micron or sub-micron range. This thesis focuses on use of the Aerosol Jet direct write printing process, which shows promise for the fabrication of ceramic films due to its fine feature resolution and flexibility with printing complex features. This study identifies significant process parameters and their relationship to the process output for deposition of Samarium-doped Ceria (SDC) nano-ink. A design of experiments approach is used to generate …

Nonprofit News, News Industrial Subsidies, And The Rise Of Citizen Journalism, Roger A. Lohmann
Nonprofit News, News Industrial Subsidies, And The Rise Of Citizen Journalism, Roger A. Lohmann
Faculty & Staff Scholarship
In this article three important policy questions are suggested in light of signs of recent growth of nonprofit news and the possibility of a great deal more similar growth in the future: 1) Does nonprofit news production pose a plausible solution to the economic troubles of the U.S. news industry? 2) Would industrial subsidies of nonprofits, like those for “welfare state” health and human services co-production offer a potential solution to the economic problems of the U.S. news industry? 3) Can the currently evolving internet-based system of news production by volunteer citizens be sustainable in the long run?

Emergency Preparedness And Public Health: The Lessons Of Hurricane Sandy, Tia Powell, Dan Hanfling, Lawrence O. Gostin
Emergency Preparedness And Public Health: The Lessons Of Hurricane Sandy, Tia Powell, Dan Hanfling, Lawrence O. Gostin
Georgetown Law Faculty Publications and Other Works
When Hurricane Sandy hit downtown Manhattan, three neighboring hospitals each made different decisions about when to evacuate. Across the metro region, more than five hospitals and over 20 nursing and assisted living facilities were evacuated, making this the central public health challenge of this calamitous event. It is a familiar story—a super storm comes ashore, infrastructure is overwhelmed, and healthcare facilities evacuate patients, with major delays in returning to normal functioning. Afterwards, policy makers evaluate lessons learned for the next disaster, but similar missteps are often repeated.
Although not identical, it is instructive to compare Hurricane Katrina with the still …

The Role Of Information And Communication Technologies In Ghana’S Rural Development, Michael Sakyi Boateng
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
ABSTRACT
Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) hold tremendous potential for rural development in Ghana in the areas of agriculture, health, Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs), and education. Using the theoretical sampling method, this paper takes a closer look at the ICT scene in Ghana from 2000 to 2011 with emphasis on the role of ICTs in rural development. The paper also draws attention to the efforts made by past and present governments of Ghana to solve the major problems facing ICTs development in Ghana. Undermining Principles Of Academic Freedom: The "Academic Bill Of Rights" Movement, Gerry Turkel
Journal of Collective Bargaining in the Academy
The “Academic Bill of Rights” movement, launched by right wing activists in
2003, has sought to legislate control over student rights, the hiring of faculty members,
and curricula. It activists claims to seek academic freedom in an academy that has been
virtually taken over by leftists aiming at indoctrinating students into their vision of the
world. Through a variety of groups, including Students for Academic Freedom, the
movement claims to base its initiatives on principles established by the American
Association of University Professors (AAUP). These efforts, which seek to bring
academia under governmental control and which seek to extend a …

Researchers who study these individuals and how they behave as a group say they have two overarching characteristics that make them different than prior generations of college students. First, they are close to, and more dependent on, their parents. Second, both parents and students believe they are more well-prepared for college than they actually are.

Luck Or Design? The Unionization Attempt At Bowling Green State University, Mary Ellen Benedict
Luck Or Design? The Unionization Attempt At Bowling Green State University, Mary Ellen Benedict
Journal of Collective Bargaining in the Academy
This discussion will attempt to meet two goals. First, it presents the case and preliminary
findings related to the examination of the failed unionization attempt. The study investigates
what features in this event may be important factors in higher education unionization. Second,
the paper discusses the challenges using qualitative research methods to study faculty
unionization. The rest of my talk will describe the events at BGSU from 1991 through 1994,
after presenting a brief literature review that explains why faculty form unions. The analysis of
these facts will help us to make some general conclusions about faculty organizing.
