Security Applications Of Formal Language Theory, Len Sassaman, Meredith L. Patterson, Sergey Bratus, Michael E. Locasto, Anna Shubina Nov 2011

Security Applications Of Formal Language Theory, Len Sassaman, Meredith L. Patterson, Sergey Bratus, Michael E. Locasto, Anna Shubina

Computer Science Technical Reports

We present an approach to improving the security of complex, composed systems based on formal language theory, and show how this approach leads to advances in input validation, security modeling, attack surface reduction, and ultimately, software design and programming methodology. We cite examples based on real-world security flaws in common protocols representing different classes of protocol complexity. We also introduce a formalization of an exploit development technique, the parse tree differential attack, made possible by our conception of the role of formal grammars in security. These insights make possible future advances in software auditing techniques applicable to static and dynamic …

The Chinese Brush Stroke Experience In Bereavement Counseling, Grace Kwan Nov 2011

The Chinese Brush Stroke Experience In Bereavement Counseling, Grace Kwan

Expressive Therapies Dissertations

In the field of expressive therapies, there are different techniques to help bereaved people to better cope with their losses (e.g., Attig, 2000; Thompson, 2003; Gulledge, 2003; Rogers, 2007; Chandler, 2007). Among various expressive arts techniques, Chinese calligraphy has been used as a therapeutic intervention for behavioral, emotional, and mental health issues (Kao, 1991; Chen, 2003). However, there is no research on using Chinese brushstroke techniques in working with people who have experienced losses. This research focuses on the experience of practicing Chinese brushstroke technique as an expressive therapeutic approach to work with seniors in expressing their feelings toward the …

A Critical Comparative Reading Of The Traditional Poem Between Context And Method (Ibn Muqbil’S Ha’Iyya, Dhu Al-Rummah, And Jarir As A Model), Louay Karim Attia

Uruk Journal of Human Sciences

It seems that the traditional poem offers a new reading each time, making its recipient sip from its sweet water the foundations of beauty it contains, and to stand in contemplation to sense the depth of this aesthetic tool and retrieve the voice to reach the sources of creativity within it, following the steps of mastery and kindness to it, for poetry is the Arabs’ collection and the ultimate source of their virtue. Based on this understanding related to the extent of the abundance of ancient production in terms of style, art and language, this study came to address the …

The Natural Ear In Arabic Poetry Vs Stress In English Poetry, Gatie Niema Risan Al-Hilfy Nov 2011

The Natural Ear In Arabic Poetry Vs Stress In English Poetry, Gatie Niema Risan Al-Hilfy

Uruk Journal of Human Sciences

This research examines how orientalists are scanning Arabic poetry and tries to reveal that this scanning is influenced by scanning English and European poetry in general which is based on long and short syllables as defined in English phonology. The researcher tries to prove that the English writing system is misleading or even defective because there is no clear definition for the syllable on the one hand and because of the existence of consonant clusters in that system on the other as an accomplished fact which contradicts what is found in the Arabic writing system. A new prosodic transcription has …

Drew my attention and I was browsing through a book laced with marzipan Asma'i in the words of Adi ibn Zayd said: "Adi bin Zaid and Abu Douad aeadi do not tell the Arab poetry them; because their words are not Nagdia." Mistirbani then continued to talk in this regard; which invited me to wonder what is behind this deportation by the Department of martyrdom Bocarhma, happy l'm searching for this in the books of linguists, and found that the subject deserves the attention and the lesson. Has attracted me personal Adi ibn Zaid that the more chose to study …

Compound Meaning Letters Among Grammarians Between The Two Powers Of Composition And Origin, Aseel Sami Amin Nov 2011

Compound Meaning Letters Among Grammarians Between The Two Powers Of Composition And Origin, Aseel Sami Amin

Uruk Journal of Human Sciences

The term "composition" is known in the Arabic language. It corresponds to the singular, and in Arabic grammar it is a branch, while the singular is the root. Compounding in the Arabic language is known in the three divisions of speech. There is no difference in nominal compounds, as they are compounds of addition, attribution, and compounds of mixing. Compounding in some verbs has been weakly said, such as "ḥabbaḍha", a verb composed of "ḥab" and "that". As for compounds in the third division of speech, which is the letter, there is disagreement among grammarians about it, which we found …

Uruk Journal of Human Sciences

The pages of this research came to discuss this topic according to a plan that began with an introduction and four sections. In the introduction, I dealt with interpretation linguistically and technically, the difference between interpretation and explanation, grammatical interpretation in Islamic thought, Ibn al-Anbari's position on readings. The first section was entitled "The Agent" in which I dealt with different mechanisms: deletion and addition, transference to meaning, advancement and delay, and distortion. As for the second section, it was entitled "The Function" in which I dealt with the mechanisms: deletion and addition, transference to meaning. As for the third …

Cinema Of The Narrative Text (A Comparative Study Of The Mechanisms Of Film And Novel), Salam Kazim Alawsy Nov 2011

Cinema Of The Narrative Text (A Comparative Study Of The Mechanisms Of Film And Novel), Salam Kazim Alawsy

Uruk Journal of Human Sciences

The novel and the film are two different entities, but they have unified roots through which we have the right to combine, delete, or abbreviate in order to reach artistic approaches, in which the elements of similarity are exploited to circumvent the method and means of work. However, we must not forget that the novel, in its written form, contains cinematic elements, and its cinematography here is readable, not visible. It is cinematography controlled by the mind and imagination of the reader, depending on the imagination and vision of the author, while the cinematic scene depends on the vision and …

The Revolution Of Imam Hussein (Pbuh) In The Vision Of The German Orientalist Julius Wellhausen, Ayad Kazim Rajih Al-Badri

Uruk Journal of Human Sciences

Orientalism, by virtue of the cultural environment in which it arose and the religious, political, and scientific purposes in which it found its own approach and its own vision, which naturally diverged from the Islamic vision of the issues of Islamic history and the achievements of Islamic civilization. The revolution of Al-Hussein (peace be upon him) against the Umayyad rule in the year 61 AH / 680 AD is one of the most important and dangerous issues in Islamic history, which has attracted the attention of contemporary researchers, both Muslims and Orientalists, just as it attracted the attention of Muslim …

Iraqi Debt And Its Political And Economic Effects On The State, Reda Abdul Jabbar Shamry, Latif Kamil Kiliwiun

Uruk Journal of Human Sciences

Developing countries face a number of problems, including debt, which is a result of the imbalance in the economic structure of a country due to the failure of economic development plans, in addition to the lack of funding necessary to develop the economic sectors that contribute to the formation of its gross domestic product. Debt has political and economic repercussions that affect the autonomy and independence of the state. This applies to Iraq, which is now exposed to external pressure due to the enormous debt it inherited from the former regime. What exacerbates the problem of Iraqi debt is the …
