The objective of this research is to investigate the influence of intellectual capital performance and intellectual capital disclosure on the value of the firm after an initial public offering (IPO). The Value Added Intellectual Coefficient (VAICTM) method is used to measure of intellectual capital. Intellectual capital disclosure in this research is measure with Zingh and Zahn (2008) index, and value firm is determined by market value of the firm. The result of the analysis fails to support the first hypothesis that intellectual capital is affected to firm’s values. The result probably is an indication that market is incapable to assess …

Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Hiring in-home foreign caregivers for long-term disabled patients is common in Taiwan. Caregivers help relieve the stress of caregiving on the patient's family members, and patients who receive care at home can also interact with their family. Caring for disabled patients can be a challenge, and can lead to physical or mental breakdown. This study aims to investigate the sources of burden on foreign caregivers of long-term disabled patients. The scores obtained using the translated Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) represent the level of burden on foreign caregivers. Data were collected and compared using an independent T-test or ANOVA to determine the …

Effectiveness Of The Osaka Medical College Brace For The Treatment Of Idiopathic Scoliosis: A 1-Year Outcome Analysis, Cheng-Fang Tsai, Po-Liang Lai, Alice M.K. Wong, Chih-Kuang Chen
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
The Osaka Medical College (OMC) brace is an underarm spinal orthosis for the treatment of scoliosis. It consists of a plastic pelvic section with a pad extended from the lateral bar to correct the convexity of the curve. The plastic cover on the trunk is minimized, and thus perspiration under the plastic contour is reduced. This is favorable for people who are heat intolerant or for those living in a hot and humid climate. In Taiwan, the use of the OMC brace has been increasing because it allows for good ventilation, is light, and has a less-restrictive design, yet its …

Ecological Executive Function Training In Patient With Brain Injury: A Casereport, Hsiao-Ting Ho, Yu-Hsin Wu, Mao-Hsiung Huang, Nai-Wen Guo
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
It has been reported that inappropriate behavior and cognitive/social dysfunction might be the result of poor impulse control after brain injury. A disorganized condition can be attributed to a failure to use a goal list. Goal management training (GMT), a neuropsychological rehabilitation program, was therefore designed for patients with poor inhibition, impaired goal- management and disorganized daily behavior. In this report, Ecological Executive Function Training (EEFT), based on the GMT model, was applied to a 55 year-old male patient with poor impulse control that was secondary to brain injury. The treatment lasted for two weeks and aimed to improve his …

Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Low back pain is one of the commonest complaints of young athletes who visit the physical medicine and rehabilitation outpatient department. Spondylolysis and spondylolisthesis are frequent causes of low back pain in young athletes. The pain in these conditions is exacerbated by lumbar extension and relieved by rest. Although genetic predisposition plays an important role in the development of pars defect, certain activities involving lumbar hyperextension and rotation movements result in spondylolysis and spondylolisthesis. From December 2005 to March 2009, there were five baseball athletes who visited our outpatient department because of low back pain. The diagnosis was grade I spondylolisthesis …

Tuberculosis is one of the oldest diseases known to affect humans and is a major cause of death worldwide. This disease, which is caused by bacteria of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex, usually affects the lungs, although other organs are involved in up to one-third of cases. If properly treated, tuberculosis caused by drug-susceptible strains is curable in virtually all cases. Spinal tuberculosis (Pott's disease or tuberculous spondylitis) often involves two or more adjacent vertebral bodies, and solitary tuberculoma of the spinal cord as part of a generalized infection is a rarity. Here, we report the case of a 54-year-old man …

Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Macrodystrophia lipomatosa is a rare congenital anomaly of localized gigantism, characterized by progressive overgrowth of all mesenchymal components, particularly fibroadipose tissue. The anomaly occurs frequently in the distribution regions of the median nerve in the upper extremity and the plantar nerve in the lower extremity. It is usually noticed at birth with predominately unilateral distal involvement of the digits. The cause of this condition is still unknown. Physicians use the patient's clinical history, physical examination, and imaging techniques to diagnose the condition, with characteristic imaging findings revealing macrodactyly with hypertrophy of the soft tissue and osseous structures. This study reports …

For decades, ultrasonography has shown a high degree of accuracy in the evaluation of soft tissue tumors. In this study, we report the condition of a 80-year-old male patient who had been suffering from left thumb pain for 2 years. The patient had initially been diagnosed with de Quervain's disease, but responded poorly to conservative treatment. An ultrasonographic examination unexpectedly identified a well-margined solid tumor with marked vascularity. Suspicion of a neurogenic tumor led to an excision surgery and finally pathology revealed a Schwannoma. Following excision, the symptoms were entirely ameliorated. We concluded that, in the evaluation of persistent chronic …

Matrix Metalloproteinase-3 Expression And Structural Changes In Biomechanical Loaded Articular Cartilage, Jue-Long Wang, Shu-Fen Sun, Chiao-Wen Hwang, Ko-Long Lin, Pei-Te Hsu, Yu-Ling Wang, Zhang-Yu Hoe
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Background: Cartilage functions as a highly successful load-bearing tissue. However, frequent mechanical loading can affect cartilage metabolism and viability significantly. Intrinsic changes in the metabolism of chondrocytes have also been proposed as an important feature of osteoarthritis. Although many aspects of chondrocyte catabolism have been extensively investigated, the signals that initiate such metabolic changes, and their correlation with structural changes, remain unclear. We hypothesized that matrix metaproteinase-3 (MMP-3) may play a significant role. The purpose of this study was to investigate the activity of MMP-3 in cartilage under load, as well as degeneration-related structural changes of the cartilage matrix under …

University course timetabling is the problem of scheduling resources such as lecturers, courses, and rooms to a number of timeslots over a planning horizon, normally a week, while satisfying a number of problem-specific constraints. Since timetabling problems differ from one institution to another, this paper investigated the case of the University of Dar Es salaam, based on the combination of Simulated Annealing (SA), and steepest descent in a two-phase approach. Solutions have been generated which greatly outperform the manually generated ones. Furthermore, the method compares well with previous work on Tabu Search but with faster execution time and higher quality …
Petrography And Geochemistry Of Mafic Granulites Of The Ubendian Belt: Contribution To Insights Into The Lower Continental Crust Of The Paleoproterozoic, N. Boniface
Tanzania Journal of Science
Mafic granulites of the Ubendian Belt have geochemical signature, trace and REE patterns, similar to that of the lower continental crustal rocks. A SHRIMP U-Pb single zircon date at 1977±40 Ma indicates that these rocks belong to the Paleoproterozoic Ubendian orogenic cycle, which was followed by the Mesoproterozoic tectonic disturbance that contributed to their exhumation. Orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene, garnet, hornblende, plagioclase and quartz is a frequent mineral assemblage for the mafic granulites of the Ubendian Belt, and garnet frequently form corona between plagioclase and clinopyroxene. Geothermobarometric calculations have revealed the equilibration of these rocks at a temperature range between 650 and …

Contact Metamorphism In The Supracrustal Rocks Of The Sukumaland Greenstone Belt In The North West Tanzania, N. Boniface
Tanzania Journal of Science
Biotite-granite intrusions in meta-ironstones at Geita Hills and the Bukoli alkali-granite intrusion in metabasites at Mawemeru area produced heat that baked the respective country rocks through epidote-amphibolite- to amphibolite-facies. Critical and informative mineral assemblages in the metairostones of Geita Hills are garnet-grunerite-epidote-quartz and garnetferrogedrite- biotite-quartz and in the metabasites of Mawemeru is ferrotschermakite-(Naplagioclase)- quartz. Peak temperatures ranging between 438°C and 544°C were calculated from the above mineral assemblages and a pressure not exceeding 3 kbar was inferred to from the composition of magnesium-iron amphiboles (grunerite with XFe ratio of 0.83, i.e. Gru83). Hornfels textures in the metaironstones are suggested by …

Oriented clay mineral XRD analysis diffractograms were developed when the air-dried samples were diffracted in measuring range 2# between 2oo – 32o. Main clay mineral groups found in the samples were kaolinite, illite and montmorillonite. After glycolating the samples, it was evident that kaolinite …
Host-Parasites Relationship For Lake Victoria Clariid Fishes And Their Parasite Fauna, C. J. Mwita
Host-Parasites Relationship For Lake Victoria Clariid Fishes And Their Parasite Fauna, C. J. Mwita
Tanzania Journal of Science
Host-parasite co-evolutionary relationships for the clariid fish species of the Lake Victoria basin and their parasite fauna was inferred by cytochrome b gene and the 18S rDNA using ‘a strict coevolutionary’ constrained tree method, the results of which revealed a phylogenetic incongruence between the fish hosts and their parasite fauna. The present study further indicated that the sympatric association between the clariid hosts and non-clariid fishes in Lake Victoria makes it possible for the parasites to switch from one host to another and hence the large number of shared parasites observed. The specificity of some of the parasites, e.g. Diplostomum …
