The study of phytochemical constituents on the bark of Pseuduvaria Rugosa from the family Annonaceae has resulted in the isolation and characterization of aporphine alkaloids, benzo[7]annulene and tripenoids. Six aporphine alkaloids have been isolated from the dichloromethane and methanol crude extract of which three of them are new compounds. The known alkaloids were liriodenine 1, ouregidione 5, and Nmethylouregidione 11, whereas the new alkaloids were 3-amino-1,2-dimethoxy-4,5- dioxoaporphine (pseuduvarine A) 36, N-methyl-3-amino-1,2-dimethoxy-4,5- dioxoaporphine (pseuduvarine B) 37 and 3-hydroxy-1,2-dimethoxy-3,4-dioxoaporphine (pseuduvarine C) 38. Candida krusei has been identified as an emerging pathogen after Candida albicans and Candida glabrata. Until today, the ability to switch its phenotype in unfavourable environment has not been reported in Candida krusei. This study was carried out in order to evaluate the phenotypic switching ability of Candida krusei and to access how this ability affects the biological properties, adherence capacity and susceptibility towards chlorhexidine (CHX), amphotericin B, nystatin, Piper betle and Nigella sativa aqueous extracts. In order to evaluate the change in the drug binding ability of human serum albumin (HSA) with the alteration in its native conformation, effect of urea was investigated on the tertiary structure of HSA as well as on its interaction with warfarin, an anticoagulant drug, using fluorescence spectroscopy. Such studies are important from the physiological point of view as alteration in the drug binding capacity of HSA has been noted in several diseases. In this study a comprehensive evaluation of two efficient sample treatment methods based on LLE/freezing-out coupled with matrix solid-phase dispersion-sonication (UA-MSPD) and precipitation at low temperature followed by dispersive solid-phase extraction (d-SPE) has been performed for determination of dimethoate, malathion, carbaryl, simazine, terbuthylazine, atrazine and diuron in both olive and palm oil using liquid chromatography time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-QTOF-MS) and electrospray as the ionization source. The present study was conducted to investigate the effects of Gibberellic Acid (GA3), Naphthalene Acetic Acid (NAA) and N-2-chloro-4-pyridyl-N-phenylurea (CPPU) on the growth and quality development of water apple/ wax apple (Syzygium samarangense). In the present study, an attempt has been made to determine the role of the different anions, namely, CH3COO− and CF3SO3 −, on the ionic conductivity of chitosan-based polymer electrolyte. In this work, the physical properties i.e. density, viscosity and CO2 solubility studies were conducted on the aqueous systems of N-methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) and guanidinium trifluoromethanesulfonate [gua][OTf]. The studies were carried out at various concentration of MDEA (1 – 4 M) and [gua][OTf] (0.1 – 2 M). The temperature and pressure were also varied depending on the study involved. Studies were conducted to investigate the effects of plant growth regulators on okra growth, yield and quality development using different techniques of application in a commercial vegetable field in Banting, Selangor, Malaysia. The experimental design employed on the commercial field was a randomized complete block design (RCBD). The different growth hormones were applied directly, internally, to the selected parts of the okra plant. Despite the popularity of these schemes, they have been criticized for metal redistribution and the reagents used. The current study conducted in purpose to illustrate the utility of EST-derived SSR in characterizing wild populations of M. rosenbergii in Malaysia‟s rivers. A novel set of EST-SSR generated from RNA of M. rosenbergii were validated in a full panel of 120 samples from four wild populations through Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). Seven EST-SSR loci were identified, characterized, and evaluated on 30 individuals each from the populations namely Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Sarawak, and Terengganu. Introduction: Gutta-percha (GP) has been accepted as the “gold standard” root filling material. It is the material against which most others are compared. The adhesive potential of GP to radicular dentine has been shown to be far from satisfactory. Therefore, resin-based materials that address many of the limitations of the GP/sealer combinations have been introduced. They are claimed to produce the so-called “monoblock” that is a gap-free union between core material and sealer, which adheres and penetrates into dentinal tubules. The main aim of the present study was to determine the distribution of XRCC1 Arg399Gln genotypes in oral cancer and non-oral cancer patients. This study was also to investigate the association between XRCC1 Arg399Gln genotypes and oral cancer risk and to compare the distribution of XRCC1 Arg399Gln genotypes among different ethnic groups in Malaysia. The primary role of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) gene is to regulate immune cells. Dysregulation and, in particular, overproduction of this gene has been found to increase susceptibility to a variety of human diseases such as cancer. The aim of this study is to investigate the association of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in TNF-α −308 promoter and the risk of oral cancer among the Malaysian Indian and Indigenous population.The study included 143 confirmed oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) (mean age = 63.69 ± 12.84) and 79 healthy controls (mean age = 50.43 ± 16.35). Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are among the enzymes involved in the phase II detoxification metabolism of wide range exogenous and endogenous compounds in living cells. Bivalves GSTs often proposed as biomarker for marine pollution detection for several reasons; filter feeder, sessile, wide range distribution, and not affected by some biotic factors. In this study, GSTs from remis Donax sp. was purified by using two affinity column; GSTrapTMHP and GSH-agarose (C3). The total recovery of CDNB-active GSTs was 12% and 3% for GSTrapTMHP and GSH-agarose (C3), respectively. Coral reef research in Peninsular Malaysia has mainly been concentrated on the east coast with little emphasis on the Straits of Malacca (SOM) in the west coast. The coral reefs in SOM are extremely important, more so than their east coast counterparts due to the fact that they are only a few viable coral reef ecosystems in SOM. In the northern part of SOM stands Pulau Perak, an island which has underwater vertical reef walls. This study was done to determine the inhibitory activity that were exhibited by different parts of the local plants in Malaysia selected from the 4 families which are Leguminosae, Rubiaceae, Apocynaceae and Euphorbiaceae. The screening method used in this study are Bradford Assay and Trypsin Inhibitory Assay. Both these assays revealed that Senna surattensis leaves showed the highest inhibitory activity of 83 % compared to other 41 plant samples studied in this study. The aim of the present study is to investigate the biological activities of two selected wild Alpinia species namely, Alpinia pahangensis Ridl. and Alpinia mutica Roxb. Extraction of the rhizomes and leaves was done successively using three solvents with different polarity: hexane, dichloromethane and methanol. The crude extracts were tested for their antimicrobial and antioxidant activities. The antioxidant activity was determined using the DPPH free radical scavenging method. Advances in the understanding of cell biology in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (cALL) have led to sophisticated risk-stratification based therapeutic interventions targeting individual patients. Despite these advances, approximately 10-20% of children with ALL still relapse. Thus, identification of new prognostic indicators will allow for better targeted treatment. TERF2, one of the main components of the shelterin complex (telosome), has been found to be over-expressed in a variety of epithelial malignancies, including lung, skin and breast cancer.
