Teacher Self-Efficacy Beliefs Related To Chronic Disruptive Behavior, Kalinda R. Jones
Teacher Self-Efficacy Beliefs Related To Chronic Disruptive Behavior, Kalinda R. Jones
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In the current study, elementary teachers' self-efficacy beliefs regarding working with students displaying chronic disruptive behavior (CDB) were explored. CDB was defined as persistent observable actions that have a negative impact on academic or social functioning. To address the infrequently researched construct of self-efficacy beliefs specific to teaching students exhibiting CDB, a modified version of the Teachers' Sense of Efficacy Scale (short form) was used. Factor analysis results indicated the three self-efficacy factors of instructional strategies self-efficacy, classroom management self-efficacy, and student engagement self-efficacy. No significant relationships were found between each of the three types of teacher self-efficacy beliefs and …

In nonobese diabetic (NOD) mice, two sets of autoreactive CD4(+) T cells recognize the B:9-23 segment of the insulin B chain. One set, type A, recognizes insulin presented by antigen-presenting cells (APCs). These T cells are highly deleted in the thymus. The second set, type B, does not recognize insulin protein but reacts with soluble B chain peptide. This set is not deleted in the thymus but is activated in the islets of Langerhans. In this study, we examine the specificity of these two types of T cells. The protein-reactive set recognizes the stretch of residues 13-21 of the insulin …

People in general seem to harbor a natural fear toward many of the creatures inhabiting our yards and the land- scapes around us. Some of this fear is certainly understand- able, after all, a bee or wasp sting hurts! Others of these creatures are just creepy—spiders, mantids, ants, snakes, bats. If we stop and think about it, however, we’ll soon realize that we really don’t have much to fear and in fact there is much to be gained if we can find a way to better appreciate these creatures. The beautiful goldenrod invites crab spiders and soldier beetles who love …
In The Garden
Nebraska Statewide Arboretum: Publications
January is a quiet month. Christmas things are packed away, the hustle of gatherings has slowed down and the pace of the new year has not yet begun. It’s time to read. Michael Pollan describes writing and gardening as “two ways of rendering the world in rows.” Both have a wonderful way of resolving things, of putting things right. Naturalist Ann Zwinger says she writes with the hope that her words will be “witnesses to grace and coherence.” And witnesses they are.

Thirty-Two Short Stories About Intellectual Property, Lorie Graham, Stephen Mcjohn
Thirty-Two Short Stories About Intellectual Property, Lorie Graham, Stephen Mcjohn
UC Law Science and Technology Journal
In the United States, intellectual property law is usually viewed as serving an economic policy, by providing an incentive for authors and inventors to create works. The incentive policy, however, ill fits the actual contours of intellectual property law and how artists and inventors use it. Adding other approaches offers a fuller explanation. Intellectual property plays a greater role than economic theory suggests in disclosing technology, and in serving to coordinate cultural values in technology. Intellectual property can serve human rights (similar to the moral rights approach in some jurisdictions) by allowing people to control the way that their works …
A Pathway To Follow-On Biologics, Jeanne Yang
A Pathway To Follow-On Biologics, Jeanne Yang
UC Law Science and Technology Journal
Over the past several decades, advances in biotechnology and medicine have created an influx of biologics. Biologic products have shown great promise as effective treatments for cancer, autoimmune diseases, and other serious afflictions. Many drug manufacturers have been enticed by the promise of patent protection and strong market rates and have entered the field, developing innovative, therapeutic biologics. Consequently, there has also been a demand for generic follow-on biologics. There are two major factors limit the reach of biologic development: cost and safety. The need for an abbreviated approval system for follow-on biologics has been clearly demonstrated, and some options …

Lepidopteran stem borers were collected from switchgrass, Panicum virgatum L., tillers showing symptoms of infestation at seven locations in Illinois and Iowa, with additional observations made on larval and adult activity. Blastobasis repartella (Dietz) (Coleophoridae), whose only known host is switchgrass, was common in plots grown for >5 yr, whereas the polyphagous stalk borer, Papaipema nebris (Guenée) (Noctuidae), was abundant in newly established (i.e., first- and second year) switchgrass. Haimbachia albescens Capps (Crambidae) was collected from two locations in Illinois, making switchgrass the first known host for this species. Entry holes made by B. repartella and H. albescens were usually …

Hormones are essential to the function and propagation of almost all organisms, yet the environmental fate of hormones is not well understood. Because these substances are so common in nature, the question is not whether they will be found, but rather at what concentrations and in what form (biologically active or inactive) will they be found. The objective of this research was to determine the effect of manure handling and application strategies on artificial hormone losses in runoff through the use of simulated rainfall. In 2008, rainfall simulations were conducted at the Haskell Agricultural Laboratory near Concord, NE (Latitude: 42 …

Applications Of Weps And Sweep To Non-Agricultural Lands, John Tatarko, David G. Walker, Simon Van Donk

Soil erosion by wind is a serious problem throughout the United States and the world. Dust from wind erosion obscures visibility and pollutes the air. It fills road ditches where it impacts water quality, causes automobile accidents, fouls machinery, and imperils animal and human health. Dust and specifically particulate matter less than 10 microns (PM10), is regulated by the US-EPA National Ambient Air Quality Standards. The Wind Erosion Prediction System (WEPS) model was developed by the USDA Agricultural Research Service, primarily for the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service to simulate wind erosion and develop conservation plans on cultivated agricultural lands. …

To resist establishment by an invasive plant, a community may require one or more species functionally similar to the invader in their resource acquisition pattern. In this study, communities consisting of native winter annual forbs, non-native annual grasses, native perennials, or a combination of the two native communities were established with and without Centaurea solstitialis to determine the effect of soil moisture and light availability on plant community invasion resistance. The annual plant communities were unable to resist invasion by C. solstitialis. In the native winter annual forb community, senescence in late spring increased light penetration (>75%) to …
