An Apple A Day Keeps Shareholder Suits At Bay: An Examination Of A Corporate Officer’S Legal Duty To Disclose Health Problems To Shareholders, Alexis Brown Stokes
Texas Wesleyan Law Review
This Article examines both constitutional and practical problems with proposed regulation to require corporate officers to disclose health problems to shareholders. In doing so, the Article addresses the following questions, which are especially timely given the recent controversy surrounding Apple CEO Steve Jobs: To what extent should officers of public companies be required to disclose personal health problems to shareholders? Does a timely failure to disclose such information constitute securities fraud if the stock price is adversely affected once the information becomes public? Can shareholders' rights to accurate information relevant to a company's likely future performance trump an officer's right …

Department of Health and Human Performance Faculty Articles
Position Statement: Admittedly, research to date examining the physiological effects of meal frequency in humans is somewhat limited. More specifically, data that has specifically examined the impact of meal frequency on body composition, training adaptations, and performance in physically active individuals and athletes is scant. Until more research is available in the physically active and athletic populations, definitive conclusions cannot be made. However, within the confines of the current scientific literature, we assert that:1. Increasing meal frequency does not appear to favorably change body composition in sedentary populations.2. If protein levels are adequate, increasing meal frequency during periods of hypoenergetic …

Mega-Terracettes And Related Ungulate Activities In Loess Hills, Iowa, Usa, Brandon J. Weihs, John F. Shroder Jr.
Geography and Geology Faculty Publications
Terracettes are small, quasi-parallel, staircase-like, stepped landforms generally <1 m in tread width and riser height, as long as 300 m, and located transversely along slopes. Numerous theories purport to explain causal mechanisms, including animal disturbance, soil creep, solifluction (gelifluction), slumping and rotational slippage, regolith and vegetation control, subsidence, and anthropogenesis or tectonism. Terracettes in the western Iowa Loess Hills were characterized morphogenetically, with field observations suggesting high association with ungulate activities. A new class of mega-terracette is recognized that characterizes studyarea forms orders of magnitude larger than those discussed by others. This addition to the prior terracette morphologies adds to understanding of concepts of equifinality in which terracettes result from multiple processes. These mega-terracettes are related to ungulate activities of geophagy, soil transport from hooves, compaction, smearing, pawing, and wallowing (dust bathing) as well as the effects of variable soil moisture on erosion of the forms.

Winning The War Against Childhood Obesity: The Role Of Teachers And Schools In Early Childhood Education, Paula Walker
Winning The War Against Childhood Obesity: The Role Of Teachers And Schools In Early Childhood Education, Paula Walker
Perspectives In Learning
American children are at the epicenter of a global childhood obesity epidemic. Due to increased adiposity, school-aged children are being routinely diagnosed with adult illnesses like Type II diabetes, hypertension, and elevated cholesterol levels. The keys to combating these epidemiological trends are prevention and early intervention. Since the majority of American children are enrolled in school, school-based interventions offer enormous potential in teaching lifelong health habits and curbing the incidence of childhood obesity, especially when these habits are taught proactively as a component of early childhood education. Adiposity rebound is the critical period of increasing body mass index (BMI), that …

Purpose: To examine the attitudes and perceptions of faculty, staff and students concerning tobacco policies at a university campus in a tobacco producing state.
