Stimulation Of Hatching Efficiency In Capsulated Cysts Of Artemia Fransiscana Using 890 Nm Diode Laser, Maysoon. H. Al-Seria, Rana. R. Al-Ani, Ayad. G. Anwer
Baghdad Science Journal
Artemia fransiscana is one of the most important live food for commercial larval aquaculture. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of 890 nm diode laser irradiation on Artemia capsulated cysts using (1-10) minutes exposure time, and 2.26x10-3 J/cm2 Fluence. The Artemia samples were obtained from two locations: Dyalaa and Basraa. After irradiation, hatching percentage (H %) and hatching efficiency(HE) of Artemia were measured after 24 and 48 hours of incubation. The results of the effect of laser light on the capsulated cysts from Dyalaa showed that the optimum dose for enhancing (H %) after 24 hours …

Identification And Quantitative Estimation Of Lutein In Iraqi Spinacia Oleraceafamily Chenopodiaceae By Using Chromatographic Methods, Enas Jawad Kadeem
Baghdad Science Journal
Lutein is an antioxidant carotenoid present in the highest quantities in dark, leafy green vegetables such as spinach. In this study, and for the first time we try to separate and calculate the quantity of lutein in Iraqi spinach to know the dietary requirements from this active drug to avoid age macula degeneration caused by lutein depletion. Extraction and fractionation of lutein from Iraqi spinach leaves were carried out by soxhlet apparatus using petroleum ether: acetone (1:1) as a solvent system, then lutein was isolated by preparative thin layer chromatography and identified by thin layer chromatography using two different solvents …
Effect Of Aqueous Extract Of Fig (Ficus Carica) Fruit On Some Hematological Parameters In Female Rabbits, Suha A. Al-Jowari, Sabah A. Al-Obaidi, Waleed H. Yousif
Effect Of Aqueous Extract Of Fig (Ficus Carica) Fruit On Some Hematological Parameters In Female Rabbits, Suha A. Al-Jowari, Sabah A. Al-Obaidi, Waleed H. Yousif
Baghdad Science Journal
The effect of the aqueous extract of fig (Ficus carica) fruit was studied by using different concentrations of this fruit (15, 20 and 25 mg/kg of body weight) on some hematological parameters (hemoglobin concentration, packed cell volume, white blood cell count and platelets count) in female rabbits. Twenty female rabbits were randomly divided into four groups (five animals in each group). Three groups were dosed with the concentrations mentioned above, while the last was administered with distilled water and considered as control group. These animals were orally dosed by aqueous extract using a micropipette. The results showed that there was …

An Introduction To The Organization Commonly Known As Doctors Without Borders, Sean Moore
An Introduction To The Organization Commonly Known As Doctors Without Borders, Sean Moore
JCCC Honors Journal
Humanitarian organizations, like the humans that operate or benefit from them, are filled with challenges, successes, and failures. As the largest non-governmental organization on the planet today, Doctors Without Borders has its own interesting history that falls short of the glory most people ascribe to it when they hear the westernized version of its French name, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). In researching this organization, the author studied several books, reviewed dozens of articles and web-sites, listened to the full recruitment pitch while watching the concurrent online presentation, and watched the movie “Living in Emergency: Stories of Doctors Without Borders”. The …

Effects Of Energy Drinks On Metabolism At Rest And During Submaximal Treadmill Exercise In College Age Males., Janae Nienhueser, Gregory A. Brown, Brandon S. Shaw, Ina Shaw
International Journal of Exercise Science
Energy drinks are widely available and popular among athletes and non-athletes. However, the effects of energy drinks on resting and exercise energy expenditure and metabolism remain largely unknown. On four separate occasions, baseline measurements of resting metabolic rate (RMR) and Respiratory Exchange Ratio (RER) were obtained in ten healthy males (21.4 ± 1.6 y, 77.60± 7.5 kg, 180.0 ± 7.1 cm). Then, in a randomly assigned cross-over design, the subjects consumed 473 ml of one of three commercially available energy drinks or a placebo and then RMR and RER were measured 1 hour later. The subjects then engaged in 15 …

Congressional Testimony
The Relationship of Unregulated OTC Derivatives to the Meltdown. It is now accepted wisdom that it was the non-transparent, poorly capitalized, and almost wholly unregulated over-the-counter (―OTC‖) derivatives market that lit the fuse that exploded the highly vulnerable worldwide economy in the fall of 2008. Because tens of trillions of dollars of these financial products were pegged to the economic performance of an overheated and highly inflated housing market, the sudden collapse of that market triggered under-capitalized or non-capitalized OTC derivative guarantees of the subprime housing investments. Moreover, the many undercapitalized insurers of that collapsing market had other multi-trillion …
