Assessment Of Bacterial Community Patterns From Ecologically Distinct Antarctic Soil Environments / Chun Wie Chong, Chun Wie Chong

Student Works (2010-2019)

It is commonly known that bacteria are ubiquitously distributed in soil environments. They are heavily involved in the biogeochemical cycles and are vital in maintaining soil ecological functions. These functional roles of bacteria are especially important in the extreme and harsh environments of Antarctica where the terrestrial trophic interactions are generally limited to microorganisms due to restricted development of terrestrial plant and animal communities. In order to assess the spatial distribution and taxonomic composition of soil bacterial community in Antarctica, soils were collected from a range of geographically and environmentally distinct locations. These included relatively milder but variable environments on …

Student Works (2010-2019)

Introduction: Gutta-percha (GP) has been accepted as the “gold standard” root filling material. It is the material against which most others are compared. The adhesive potential of GP to radicular dentine has been shown to be far from satisfactory. Therefore, resin-based materials that address many of the limitations of the GP/sealer combinations have been introduced. They are claimed to produce the so-called “monoblock” that is a gap-free union between core material and sealer, which adheres and penetrates into dentinal tubules. Examples of these resin-based filling materials include Resilon, EndoREZ and Guttaflow. Objectives: The objectives of this study were to evaluate …

Mathematical Model On The Cellulase Enzymes Production As A Function Of Viscosity / Fahimeh Abdeyazdan, Fahimeh Abdeyazdan

Student Works (2010-2019)

As cellulosic material is the most abundant and renewable source of organic matter, ethanol can be produced cheaply from cellulosic waste. The cellulose must be hydrolyzed to glucose before it can be fermented to ethanol. The enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose using cellulase enzymes is considered an environmental- friendly and less energy intensive alternative. White-rot fungi belong to the wood-destroying basidiomycetes and are well known as the only micro-organisms responsible for the enzyme hydrolysis of all major wood polymers, including lignin, cellulose and hemicelluloses. On the other hand, the production cost of cellulase enzymes is a limitation in ethanol fermentation. Therefore, …
