Financing Constraints, Credit Rationing And Financing Obstacles: Evidence From Firm-Level Data In South-Eastern Europe, Iraj Hashi, Valentin Z. Toçi

Financing constraints have been one of the major impediments to doing business in transition economies in general and South-Eastern Europe in particular. Utilizing firm-level survey data and extensive econometric modelling, the paper provides new evidence on financing constraints, credit rationing and financing obstacles for firms in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Romania and Serbia and Montenegro. The findings suggest that these phenomena are prevalent in the SEE region, especially in the small business sector, a driving force of economic development in these countries. This study uses the Ordinal Logistic Model (OLM) to analyze the determinants of the growth expectations of total early-stage entrepreneurship activity (TEA) expressed in terms of new jobs to be created within their firms in four categories. Specifically, given the increasing importance of entrepreneurship in job creation, innovation and economic growth, we try to inquire into the question of why some of the new entrepreneurs and not the others expect a rapid development of their ventures. Questionnaire survey among 809 foreign subsidiaries in five post-socialist economies (East Germany, Poland, Romania, Slovenia and Croatia) is used to study determinants of innovation activity of foreign subsidiaries. Findings demonstrate that foreign subsidiaries are relatively independent as far as innovation activity is concerned, while at the same time subsidiaries with better access to foreign parent companies R&D results are more likely to innovate. Important differences are found in factors that determine product and process innovation: subsidiaries that invest more in R&D exhibit higher probability for product but not for process innovation; transfer of responsibilities from headquarters to subsidiaries is conducive …

The goal of this research was to examine how project changes can be prevented, and how to reduce their negative impact. Theoretical research examined risk management, project control and change management. Based on the study a “Comprehensive Change Management Model” was developed and verified after conducting empirical research in Slovenian enterprises. The research confirmed that risk management identifies possible changes and reduces their impact; project control ensures the timely detection of changes and an efficient response, while formal change management ensures the effective implementation of changes. The combined functioning of all three areas ensures effective project execution.

The Impact Of A Responsive And Proactive Market Orientation On Innovation And Business Performance, Mateja Bodlaj

The purpose of the presented empirical study was to examine the impact of a responsive and proactive market orientation on the degree of novelty, innovation performance and business performance. Data obtained from 325 Slovenian companies that introduced product, process, marketing and organisational innovations during the 2005-2007 period were analysed via structural equation modelling. The main findings reveal that only a proactive market orientation is positively related to the degree of novelty, whereas no support was found for the direct impact of both market orientations on innovation performance and business performance.

In this article, we estimate the movement of natural rate of unemployment in Slovenia since 1997, as the non-accelerating inflation rate of unemployment (NAIRU). The estimates based on the Kalman filter method indicate a stable decline in the NAIRU from 1997 to the end of 2004, when the lowest NAIRU was detected during the period studied, somewhere between 4.5 and 5.1%. After 2005, a gradual increase in the NAIRU occurred, which came to a halt at the end of 2007. The concepts of organizational and occupational identification have been identified as key factors in workplace morale and behaviour. Through a survey, we determined the extent of both concepts and the link between them among Slovenian accountants and auditors. The results show that Slovenian accountants and auditors identify more with the organization than with the profession, and the level of both identifications is relatively low. Based on the results, we conclude that cultivating employees' professional identification should be in the interest of companies, as there is a positive relationship between professional and organizational identification and the latter has important positive effects …

Species selection can make the difference between successful revegetation projects and costly failures. Candidate native species for revegetating burned arid lands in the southwestern United States must meet at least two criteria. These species must: (1) be competitive in postfire environments typically dominated by exotic grasses, and (2) be able to become established reliably by seeding or planting. The paper investigates the influence of technical and allocative efficiency on export performance of Slovenian individual firms. The main contribution of the paper to the literature is the test on whether technical and allocative efficiencies, measured by data envelopment analysis (DEA) and stochastic frontier function (SFA), significantly influence the export orientation of individual firms. Our evidence suggests that firms which are more efficient than their competitors in industry are more export oriented and that technical efficiency is more significant for firms’ export orientation than allocative efficiency. This paper investigates the relative costs and benefits associated with introducing a more active monetary and a different exchange rate regime in the Republic of Macedonia. In this finding, the econometrics result show that introducing a more active monetary policy and a different strategy of the exchange rate targeting in order to promote rapid economic growth could easy disturb macroeconomic stability (after having achieved it at a substantial cost) without any significant economic benefits. The old bunting has three pictures of “Ali” Tiger painted in Arabic letters, a double-edged Sword of Zulfakar, four magical square boxes decorated with Arabic inscription, and Arabic letters quoted from the Quran on five-cornered stars. The paper describes the significance of the regalia: it does not only function as the symbol of sovereignty of the Cirebon Sultanate, but it also has a magical power to protect the kingdom.

The Bulyanhulu rougher flotation circuit performance has been determined by establishing the performance of individual cells. Direct sampling was done on all the rougher cell input, output and size analysis was performed on the samples with material in each size fraction assayed for copper and gold to determine their recoveries. Intersections in particular must be designed to safely accommodate pedestrians of all ages and physical and mental abilities. Optimization of delactosed whey permeate (DWP) treatment for fresh-cut tomato was accomplished by evaluating different quality, nutritional and microbial markers. Response surface methodology was applied to obtain polynomial model equations. DWP concentration (0 - 5 %) and storage (0 - 10 days) were used as independent factors in order to optimize the process. The analyses showed that increases in DWP concentration extended the quality of the fresh-cut tomato significantly (p3 % were scored unacceptable by the sensory panel due to perceived off-odours. DWP treatment also improved retention of ascorbic acid and lycopene over storage. The total aerobic counts and yeast …
