Beyala Et Le Plagiat : Gary, Buten Et Walker Pourvoyeurs De Textes, Kisito Hona
Présence Francophone: Revue internationale de langue et de littérature
If the name of Calixthe Beyala seems to be linked to controversial issues, it is also because she was repeatedly suspected and accused of plagiarism. One of these accusations led to her condemnation by the tribunal of Paris on May 7th, 1996. The purpose of this article consists not only in recapitulating the facts, but also, in capitalizing on them to study the phenomenon of plagiarism in general and the specifi c aspects which it takes with this writer.

De Stock À Albin Michel : Beyala Et L’Édition, Bernard De Meyer
Présence Francophone: Revue internationale de langue et de littérature
Beyala has remained faithful to the publisher Albin Michel for her fictional work since the publication of Le petit prince de Belleville in 1992, but her four fi rst novels had three different publishers. A study of her relationship with the publishing world during this period shows her desire for recognition on the Parisian literary scene, which was ready to take up the challenge by publishing the novel of an unknown African woman writer. A careful analysis of paratextual elements, in particular the titrology, and of the contents of the novels reveals that Calixthe Beyala enters into a direct conversation …

A Successful Artificial Nest Platform Design For Great Blue Herons On Small Coastal Rookery Islands In Texas, David J. Newstead, Gene W. Blacklock, David P. Durham
Bulletin of the Texas Ornithological Society
Providing additional or improved nesting structure for wading birds requires active management. Artificial nest platforms may be an effective tool in waterbird rookery management. A successful nest platform design for Great Blue Herons (Ardea herodias) used in the Coastal Bend region of the Texas coast is described, and platform usage and nest success are discussed.

Colonial Nesting Yellow-Crowned Night Herons On The San Antonio River Walk, Clint W. Boal
Colonial Nesting Yellow-Crowned Night Herons On The San Antonio River Walk, Clint W. Boal
Bulletin of the Texas Ornithological Society
Yellow-crowned Night Herons (Nyctinassa violacea) typically nest as single pairs or in small colonies of about four pairs with high inter nest distances. They are also reported as susceptible to disturbance and to avoid habitat with high human use. However, some Yellow crowned Night Herons habituate to human-dominated landscapes and nest in residential areas. I located a colony of nesting Yellow-crowned Night Herons in San Antonio, Texas on the River Walk, a popular tourist destination with an estimated 2.5 million visitors annually. I located 68 and71 active nests in 2008 and 2009, respectively. This suggests the breeding population of the …

Productivity In An Urban White-Winged Dove Population On The Edwards Plateau, Texas, Michael F. Small, John T. Baccus, T. Wayne Schwertner
Bulletin of the Texas Ornithological Society
Eastern White-winged Doves (Zenaida asiatica asiatica) in Texas have expanded northward since about 1920 and established urban populations throughout the state. Although nest success has been measured indirectly using indices, actual productivity has yet to be thoroughly investigated. We were interested in determining recruitment into a White-winged Dove population with a known area of occupancy by measuring productivity (nest success and estimated fledgling survivorship). We used nest monitoring and mark-recapture techniques to assess these parameters in Mason, Texas (Mason County) from 25 May–11 August 2006.
Isolation And Identification Of Eastern Equine Encephalitis Virus In Mosquito Pools, Timothy Bender
Isolation And Identification Of Eastern Equine Encephalitis Virus In Mosquito Pools, Timothy Bender
Honors Thesis and Capstone Projects
The Eastern Equine Encephalitis Virus (EEEV) is transmitted to humans by mosquitoes of many genera. This virus has a high mortality rate and frequent life-altering complications for survivors of infection. The current practice for isolating and identifying the EEEV has been restricted to testing pools of 50 or less mosquitoes. A procedure for simulating one infected mosquito in a pool of 100 was established and tested. Data collected shows the threshold pool size can be increased to 100 without loss of specificity or accuracy. This increased will be met with many benefits including economic savings and increased time efficiency.
Evaluating The Technical Efficiency Of Trolley Buses In Athens, Greece, Panayotis G. Michaelides, Athena Belegri-Roboli, Theocharis Marinos
Evaluating The Technical Efficiency Of Trolley Buses In Athens, Greece, Panayotis G. Michaelides, Athena Belegri-Roboli, Theocharis Marinos
Journal of Public Transportation
Efficiency measurement traditionally has been an important approach of evaluating public firm performance. The purpose of this paper is to estimate the technical efficiency of Trolley Buses of the Athens and Piraeus Area (TBAPA) in Greece for the year 2003. The estimation of technical efficiency is based on the Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) and employs the Cobb-Douglas specification of the production function. Meanwhile, an attempt is made to investigate the explanatory power of other factors on the organization’s technical efficiency, such as the impact of other competitive means of transportation and the distance of the areas that each line connects. …

Explore: An Attraction Search Tool For Transit Trip Planning, Kari Edison Watkins, Brian Ferris, G. Scott Rutherford
Journal of Public Transportation
Publishing information about a transit agency’s stops, routes, schedules, and status in a variety of formats and delivery methods is an essential part of improving the usability of a transit system and the satisfaction of a system’s riders. A key staple of most transit traveler information systems is the trip planner, a tool that serves travelers well if the both origin and destination are known. However, sometimes the availability of transit at a location is more important than the actual destination. Given this premise, we developed an Attractions Search Tool to make use of an underlying trip planner to search …

New Structural Interpretation, Microstructural Analyses, And Preliminary Monazite Geochronology Of Proterozoic Rocks In The Central Manzano Mountains, New Mexico, Steve A. Rogers
Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs
The Manzano Mountains of central New Mexico, on the east flank of the Rio Grande Rift, provide excellent outcrops of Proterozoic basement. Rock types in the area include Sevilleta metarhyolite, amphibolitic metavolcanic rocks, schist, meta-lithic arenite, banded metarhyolite, the White Ridge and related quartzites, and the Blue Springs schist. Plutonic activity included the emplacement of the Monte Largo (1656Ma) and Priest (1427Ma) plutons. Proterozoic metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks were multiply deformed during at least three deformation events. D1, D2, D3 of rocks in the Manzano Mountains have all produced movement along the NE striking Monte Largo shear zone (MLSZ). The …

Haematology and Oncology, East Africa
Introduction: This randomized phase II study investigated pemetrexed in combination with the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-targeting monoclonal antibody matuzumab compared with pemetrexed alone as second-line therapy for patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer.
Methods: Patients received pemetrexed 500 mg/m2 every 3 weeks either alone (n = 50) or in combination with matuzumab at either 800 mg weekly (n = 51) or 1600 mg every 3 weeks (n = 47). The primary end point was objective response, as assessed by an independent review committee.
Results: Tumor EGFR expression was detected in 87% of randomized patients. The objective response rate …
