Dihomotopic Deadlock Detection Via Progress Shell Decomposition, David A. Cape, Stephen C. Jackson, Bruce M. Mcmillin

The classical problem of deadlock detection for concurrent programs has traditionally been accomplished by symbolic methods or by search of a state transition system. This work examines an approach that uses geometric semantics involving the topological notion of dihomotopy to partition the state space into components, followed by search of a reduced state space. Prior work partitioned the state-space inductively. in this work, a decomposition technique motivated by recursion coupled with a search guided by the decomposition is shown to effectively reduce the size of state transition systems. the reduced state space yields asymptotic improvement in overall runtime for verification. …

Many infants have some form of gastroesophageal reflux (GER) characterized by occasional spitting up with burps. Symptomatic reflux called gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) affects infants and causes a variety of symptoms and observable events. The diagnosis of GER or GERD appears to be increasing in the infant population including healthy newborns and those infants hospitalized for a variety of reasons. The purpose of this systematic review is to identify evidence-based practice guidelines for the treatment of GERD, including pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions in the neonatal/infant population. The purpose of this study was to examine patterns of social activity engagement in a sample of older Hispanics (Puerto Rican, Dominican, and other Hispanic) and determine whether these patterns differed significantly from the comparison non-Hispanic White group. This article also analyzes how ethnicity, sociodemographic, and health variables (health problems and depression) relate to each of the activity engagement patterns. The factor analysis of social activities from the Norbeck Social Support Questionnaire yielded three factors, which describe engagement in social activities as: children and relatives active, friends and activities active, and senior services active. Isomer-Dependent Adsorption And Release Of Cis- And Trans-Platin Anticancer Drugs By Mesopomus Silica Nanoparticles, Zhimin Tao, Youwei Xie, Jerry Goodisman, Tewodros Asefa

We report on adsorption and release of the anticancer drugs cisplatin and transplatin from mesoporous silica nanomaterials, emphasizing the differences between cisplatin and its much less toxic isomer. Two types of particles, M.CM-41 and SBA-IS, were used, either as just synthesized or after calcination to remove the templates. The particles were characterized by TEM, nitrogen physisorption, and elemental analysis. The UV-vis spectra of cisplatin and transplatin were obtained and the intensities of several bands (205-210 nm, 210-220 nm, 220-235 nm, and 300-330 nm) were found proportional to drug concentrations, allowing their use for measuring drug concentration. U.S. health care delivery and administration have undergone transformations that create an expansive demand for health information technology. The concepts put forth in health care reform are reliant on an evolving health information technology infrastructure and the successes of both are dependent on consumer/patient "trust". Every action is interdependent. Each decision is a balance between ease of use, privacy and security concerns of consumers/patients, practicality, costs and political will. The goal is finding the best balance within an appropriate legal framework at the state and federal level so the pieces fit into one complete picture when implemented.

On the 13th Dec 2010 at 10:37, the deminer [Victim No.1] was operating in his clearance lane excavating a detected signal, his prodder touched on a subsurface tripwire of POMZ mine which caused it to explode. According to the investigation report the signal was not pinpointed correctly and the de-miner has used pick in contrary to set procedure, during the excavation, he pulled the subsurface tripwire connected with POMZ mine. The accident resulted in superficial injuries to deminer’s hands, left thigh and left side of abdomen.

Activation Of Propargylic Alcohols By Piano-Stool Ruthenium Complexes Bearing Phosphoramidite Ligands, Stephen Andrew Costin

Various piano-stool ruthenium complexes bearing phosphoramidite ligands have been synthesized and characterized spectroscopically and in some cases structurally. Reaction of phosphoramidite ligands with an appropriate metal precursor gives new piano-stool ruthenium complexes [RuCl(L)(arene)(phosphoramidite)], where L = Cl, PPh3, or others. The novel complexes are tested for their ability to activate propargylic alcohols catalytically as well as stoichiometrically. Specifically, catalytic substitution of propargylic alcohols via allenylidene intermediates is envisioned. Stoichiometric reactions designed to form stable, isolable allenylidenes are sought as well. h6-p-cymene complexes of the type [RuCl2(h6-p-cymene)(phosphoramidite)] activate propargylic alcohols in the reaction with carboxylic acids to form b-oxo esters. BACKGROUND: Age-related neurodegenerative diseases share a number of important pathological features, such as accumulation of misfolded proteins as amyloid oligomers and fibrils. Recent evidence suggests that soluble amyloid oligomers and not the insoluble amyloid fibrils may represent the primary pathological species of protein aggregates.

RESULTS: We have produced several monoclonal antibodies that specifically recognize prefibrillar oligomers and do not recognize amyloid fibrils, monomer or natively folded proteins. Like the polyclonal antisera, the individual monoclonals recognize generic epitopes that do not depend on a specific linear amino acid sequence, but they display distinct preferences for different subsets of prefibrillar oligomers.
