Synthesis Of Urethane Acrylate Macromer From Palm Oil-Based Polyol And Its Application As A Resin For Dental Composite., Fadheel A. A. Alsanabani

A slightly branched urethane acrylate macromer (UAM) was synthesized by reacting palm oil-based polyol with excess amounts of polymeric methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) to form urethane prepolymer, then reacted with 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and FT-IR spectroscopy confirmed the urethane and grafted acrylate groups. 0.2% by weight of camphoroquinone (CQ) and 0.8% by weight of ethyl-4-N,N-dimethylamino-benzoate (4EDMAB) by weight were added to render the experimental resins light-curable. Their viscosity, percentage of degree of conversion (%DC) and cross-linking density (CLD), percentage of volumetric polymerization shrinkage (%VPS), water sorption and solubility, flexural strength, modulus of elasticity and toughness were determined and compared to …

Air-water inter-phase mass transport of organic contaminants is often an important factor in their environmental fate and behaviour. The equilibrium situation is given by the Henry's Law Constant of the compound, but is rarely attained under environmental conditions. Approach to equilibrium is commonly described by the two-film theory involving molecular (Fickian) diffusion through thin stagnant films adjacent to the air-water interface. This theory is formulated in terms of mass transfer coefficients and fugacity transport parameters. Penetration and Surface Renewal Theories of mass transfer are also discussed. The ability of durian peel to remove Cd(II) ions from aqueous solution by biosorption was investigated. The sorption capacities at different solution pH, agitation speed, temperatures, initial cadmium ions concentrations and contact time were evaluated on a batch scale basis. At pH 5 and agitation speed 150 rpm, the cadmium ions removal reached at a maximum value. Increases in cadmium capacity with increasing temperature indicated endothermic nature of the biosorption process. The equilibrium was better described by the Langmuir isotherm model, with a maximum biosorption capacity of 18.55 mg g-1. The biosorption was relatively quick about 15 min to reach …

This study was aimed to evaluate the feasibility of an iron-phosphate coating on pyrite surfaces for inhibiting an oxidation that is expected to prevent acid mine drainage (AMD). Prior to the experiments, pyrite samples (av. 425-850 µm in size) were mixed with sand (av. 1-2 mm in size) with a ratio of 1:4. Coating process was conducted in batch experiments that were treating with various concentrations of coating solutions, i.e., hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), sodium acetate (NaAc) and potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KH2PO4) at different contact times. A thorough study on Bismuth-based Erbium-doped fiber (Bi-EDF) is presented for wide-band amplifiers and multi-wavelength fiber laser applications. This fiber allows high Erbium ions concentration to be doped without a significant concentration quenching effect. The high refractive index characteristic in the Bi-EDF has broadened the emission spectrum of Erbium ions to achieve a broader gain spectrum up to extended L-band region compared to normal silica-based Erbium-doped fiber (EDF). The Bi-EDFA performances have been investigated in terms of power conversion efficiency (PCE), quantum conversion efficiency (QCE), gain and noise figure. The current study examined the incremental validity of the Psychopathic Personality Inventory- Revised in relation to the Psychological Inventory of Criminal Thinking Styles and Personality Assessment Inventory in predicting failure of a Residential Drug Abuse Treatment Program among 222 male inmates. Failure was defined as expulsion, withdrawal, or restart of the residential phase of the treatment program or failure during the community transition phase. One-hundred fifty-eight inmates completed the program and 64 failed. Analyses revealed that scales on the Psychopathic Personality Inventory-Revised and the PAI predicted treatment failure with low predictive accuracy that was greater than chance. By employing qualitative methods, this study sought to determine the perceptions three fifth grade science teachers held about using the arts to complement science teaching in an economically distressed county in rural Appalachia and the perceived roles the arts and sciences play in the lives of those living in rural Appalachia. Each case was studied using participant-observer observations, personal journals, archival data, and interviewed using semi-structured, in-depth interview techniques. Worldwide, there are over 1000 species of blow flies (Diptera: Calliphoridae). Blow flies display a variety of habits, however they are best known for their role in the decomposition of carrion. As yet, there are few studies of their population genetic structure, although such data would contribute to such fields as pest management, taxonomy, forensic entomology and veterinary medicine. Due to a glaring absence of research into the breastfeeding decisions of Appalachian women, this study investigates the potential influences of the WIC program and its counseling on the infant feeding decisions of West Virginia women. Using the lens of critical theory, the study employs a mixed methods research approach, including the distribution of a breastfeeding perception survey, extended interviews with WIC lactation consultants and an analysis of WV WIC’s proposed and practiced breastfeeding education curriculum. Transgenic hypovirulent (HV) strains of Cryphonectria parasitica [Murrill] M.E. Barr engineered to contain an infectious cDNA copy of Cryphonectria hypovirus 1 (Hypoviridae; CHV1) may provide an efficient mechanism to introduce hypoviruses into genetically heterogeneous populations of the chestnut blight fungus. However, elucidating the factors that affect the infection of chestnut and spread of C. parasitica is needed to fully utilize the potential of transgenic HV strains for the biological control of chestnut blight. With anthropogenic activities, the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere has dramatically risen, very likely resulting in global warming and climate change. Capturing and disposing of the produced CO2 in geological formations can mitigate this problem provided that there is no substantial leakage from the subsurface back to atmosphere for hundreds of years. The detection of any CO2 leakage is essential to verify that the sequestration is effective, to initiate corrective actions if leakage is discovered, and to accurately assign storage credits in a "cap and trade" regulatory system. It examines the development of civil liability provisions, and class proceedings legislation and their effect on one another. One of the mysteries of international taxation has been that the prescriptions of what, until recently, was the accepted academic wisdom differs so sharply from widespread international practice. Part II offers a primer on the Coase Theorem, beginning with the classic case of neighbor externalizing on neighbor (farmer and rancher), and it explains the basic invariance propositions. Part III shifts the focus to Coasean situations involving buyers and sellers in a market or contractual relationship, buyers and sellers whose market interactions cause harm to third parties. The recent emergence of public pension funds as frequent lead plaintiffs in securities class actions has prompted speculation that the funds’ litigation activism is driven by “pay-to-play”. “Pay-to-play” posits that public pension funds are driven by politician board members to obtain lead plaintiff appointments in securities class actions because of campaign contributions made by plaintiffs’ lawyers to those board members. This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the securities litigation activity of 111 such funds from the years 2003 through 2006. The recent financial crisis and recession provide an opportunity to reexamine the dynamic versus static efficiency tradeoff in antitrust enforcement policy. We examine implications of the optimal antitrust enforcement model when dynamic efficiency is incorporated. The “dynamic enforcement model” examined here provides a positive theory of Section 2 doctrine, some suggestions for modifying enforcement in light of its dynamic costs, and implies antitrust enforcers should put a greater weight on dynamic efficiency during recessions.

This article explores the current organization of the South African bar and describes the legal education system and the licensing requirements for both attorneys and advocates, as well as those for foreign attorneys. Interspersed throughout the article are discussions of the system’s strengths and weaknesses, particularly in light of the transformation required after the end of apartheid, including some of the key challenges still facing South Africa.

First Report Of Viral Pathogens Wssv And Ihhnv In Argentine Crustaceans, Sergio R. Martorelli, Robin M. Overstreet, Jean A. Jovonovich

The pathogenic penaeid shrimp viruses white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) and infectious hypodermal and hematopoietic necrosis virus (IHHNV) are reported for the first time from Argentina. They both occurred in wild crustaceans in Bahia Blanca Estuary, with WSSV detected by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) or real time quantitative PCR (qPCR) methods as infecting samples as high as 56% of the penaeid Artemesia longinaris Bate, 1888, 67% of the grapsoid Cyrtograpsus angulatus Dana, 1851, and 40% of the introduced palaemonid Palaemon macrodactylus Rathbun, 1902. The highest detected copy number was 39,600 copies/mu g DNA. IHHNV was tested for using PCR in …
