The direct detection of native proteins in heterogeneous solutions remains a challenging problem. Standard methodologies rely on a separation step to circumvent nonspecific signal generation. We hypothesized that a simple and general method for the detection of native proteins in solution could be achieved through ternary complexation, where the conditional signal generation afforded by split-protein reporters could be married to the specificity afforded by either native receptors or specific antibodies. Toward this goal, we describe a solution phase split-luciferase assay for native protein detection, where we fused fragmented halves of firefly luciferase to separate receptor fragments or single-chain antibodies, allowing …

Research Publications (2006 to 2010)
Malwares control computer systems by infecting system files. They take advantage of system compatibilities to ensure their survival from one version to another. The structure of the windows portable executable (PE) files between available versions of the windows operating system (OS) makes these files an easy target for malwares. Fields and codes of clean PE files are modified and changed after infection. Checking both changes and modifications is necessary to detect malwares with a minimum false alarm rate. This paper reviews models that propose to detect PE malwares. It discusses PE structure and identifies the fields and locations that are …

These free living amoebae (FLA) were detected under light and inverted microscopes after being cultured on the surface of non-nutrient agar lawned with Escherichia coli. Acanthamoeba species were detected in higher number of culture plates from all sampling sites of all the swimming pools. While Naegleria, were detected in fewer culture plates at 3 …

Abstract-Agricultural industrial wastes produced after extracting palm oil from palm fruits known as palm kernel shell (PKS) are available in large quantities in Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria and other tropical countries. Malaysia is the second largest palm oil producing country in the world. This paper reports the results of an investigation conducted to utilize the PKS as lightweight aggregate to produce grade30 concrete with density of about 1850kg/m3. The properties of both PKS and crushed granite aggregates were compared. The concrete produced using PKS referred to here after as palm kernel shell concrete (PKSC) and its properties were compared with properties …

Serotyping is the basis of Salmonella surveillance. However, the limitations of the traditional serotyping have stimulated rapid research and development in DNA-based serotyping. The aim of this study was to apply a combination of sequential multiplex PCRs targeting the O, H and Vi antigens to serotype a panel of 122 recently isolated human- and foodborne-Salmonella strains. The mPCR that targets the o (genes wzxC2, rfbJ, prt, tyv, wzxE, wzxC1, prt) and Vi (viaB) antigens successfully subtyped the strains into serogroups C2 (n = 35, 28.7), B (n = 33, 27.1), D9 (n = 29, 22.9), E (n = 21, 17.2), …

Melioidosis is an infectious disease caused by Burkholderia pseudomallei and endemic in Southeast Asia. One hundred and forty six clinical isolates of B. pseudomallei from different states in Malaysia were obtained and molecular typing was carried out using pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE). Overall, nine clusters were successfully identified. Burkholderia pseudomallei isolates used in this study were found to be genetically diverse and there were differences in the clusters of isolates from peninsular and east Malaysia. BS9 cluster was the most common cluster and found in all the states while BS2 cluster only existed in a particular state. Based on the …
